V: Definitely one of the more interesting breweries I've visited. Located on a big farm in the middle of nowhere, Goochland County, it has some of the best scenery. The inside of the building is a bit cramped, with a few picnic tables and chairs as seating. But the outside is fantastic, with a big patio area, a burn pit, and an open field.

Q: The quality appeared to be high, with everything made on the premises.

S: The service was very prompt, friendly, and knowledgeable.

S: A nice selection of Lickinghole's beers, with Redneck Wedding (a quadrupel), Don Kiote (a black cherry DIPA), 9 Mile Goodwater (an IPA), Heir Apparent (imperial stout), and 6 others. A good array of stuff. They lose a few points for serving the beer in plastic cups, though.

Haven't been to visit, but something that cannot be stressed enough - especially for people who are not familiar with LCCB stouts:

They need to be aged.

The improvement in the quality of the beer between fresh and aged one year is greater at LCCB than any other brewery I have had - and I've had a lot of stouts. The closest comparison I can think of is Firestone Walker, whose stouts are too hot fresh, but settle down nicely when aged.

I find most LCCB stouts too bitter/ hoppy/ chalky/ charcoal/ bitter dark chocolate tasting fresh. Especially all their stouts built off the Virginia Black Bear base. But here is the thing - those hops fade with time. That bitter hoppy flavor goes away. And what you are left with is a remarkable stout.

LCCB is flooding Northern Virginia with a ton of big barrel-aged stouts. My recommendation to people who have never had LCCB before or drank their stouts fresh and didn't like them: plan to age your bottle. It vastly improves the beer. The rule for myself with LCCB bottles is at least eight months.

Setup on a farm, Lickinghole has an excellent venue on a large spread of land. The taproom is small, but the ability to walk around the property makes it special. They occasionally have food trucks for their release events and their barrel aged stouts are great.

I am just getting around to reviewing this brewery but do not have much to add to the other reviews. The brewery is a little out of the way even for a Richmond resident but the setting and sights are great. Knowing my fondness for Virginia craft beer, my grown kids took me there for fathers day. We had a great time listening to the music, eating some good food provided by the food trucks, and of course drinking some great beers (other than the designated driver). We plan to visit the brewery again but in the meantime I will purchase their beer at the various stores in our area.

Farm brewery with limited output, and therefore a somewhat limited selection. The day we were there, there were two pale ales and four Belgians - although I know they make more varieties. They fit around the average of all their beers.

The place is definitely out of the way and is a laid back, outside venue. It looks as though they might have a music stage in a field on occasion for special occasions. Didn't seem like a place you'd want to go in bad weather. There isn't seating for too many, but you can share decent sized tables with others. There are a few games around as well (cornhole, large Jenga, etc.)

Service was fine, and done with a smile. There happened to be an independent food stand offering hot dogs (and BBQ sandwiches) the day we were there, which was fine for us, but wasn't high on options.

Nice place to hit up if you are in the area or going for a release, but not sure I'd make a trek to it. If you're somewhat around, anyhow, and want to enjoy a day outside with a few beers, check it out.

Out of the way farm brewery that is very nice to relax at during a warm weather day. Both the other customers and the servers were very nice and it's just something different and out of the way (to a city raised boy who now lives in a quasi-city). Tap selection is much but they do offer bottle samples as well which I didn't realize at first. Only drawback is it is a little pricey but being a farm located in the commonwealth of Virginia (read: everything is taxed) subsidizing itself might be the cause of that (or being right outside Richmond).
