Brewed by:
Grimm Artisanal Ales
New York, United States

Style: American Double / Imperial IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 9.00%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
This unfiltered ale is first wort-hopped, hop bursted, and double dry hopped with Falconer's Flight hops.

A 9% ABV tripel IPA, BFF (AKA bitchin’ falconer’s flight AKA best friends forever) is the 8th in our series of one-off seasonal beers. Made with five pounds per barrel of Falconer’s Flight and Centennial hops, this beer is Grimm’s first proper hop bomb: first-wort hopped, hop bursted, and double dry hopped for all you lupulus freaks. Of course that wasn’t enough, so we fermented it with the “clean” Orval yeast strain to put it over the top.

Pours into a large tulip glass a clear a peach color infused golden with a large blooming bone white head,it has a 'Belgian' look to it although it's not.Love the aromas,a hot summer garden mixed with citric notes, very herbal and fruity with not much sweetness. That Orval yeast strain rings true on the palate dry even with all the big hops and higher ABV,citric and herbal with a dry base makes it immenesly drinkable even at it's size. Now this is a big hopped beer I can get behind without all the huge sweetness.

$9 and change for the bomber bottle at DeCicco's in Ardsley NY,

No freshness/bottling date info to be had

Classic look to this one, pours hazed medium apricot, and leaves an all star fine film, frothy collar and developed fields of sheeting.

Ripe fruit nose with some Belgian yeast

Simply delicious IPA/Triple from this newcomer/gypsy brewer. More ripe fruit, more dense , but smooth resiny hops notes, some pepper and fruity and nutty Belgian yeast notes all over the finish.

Nicely crafted and quite delicious....looking forward to trying a few of the other options from these folks....

Beer is poured from a 22oz into a speiglau IPA glass.

Aroma is crazy eatery and almost smells like a Belgian triple. Not as obviously hoppy as I expected.

Taste is much more traditionally hoppy but with a flowery finish.

Not exactly what I expect from an American "triple" IPA but good none the less.

On tap at the Tap and Mallet in Rochester, NY.

This one pours a golden, bright yellow-ish orange, somewhat opaque, with a good half inch head, and lots of lacing.

This one smells super juicy and super nice, tons of pineapple, peach, and mango. Falconer's Flight hops give this one a super nice aroma, it would seem. There's a bit of pine. I can't really pick out the yeast in the aroma.

Huge, huge fruit flavors here in the taste, lots of grapefruit, peach, mango, etc- so much citrus and tropical fruits. The Orval yeast strain here is used to great effect- this one of the cleanest Belgian IPAs I've ever had. The yeast is there, and contributes a nice perfumy character to this, but it doesn't overpower or contribute a soapiness that Belgian IPAs tend to have. The flavors do not clash, at all- it's well crafted and really fun to drink.

This has a very juicy mouthfeel, full and wet, with a moderate level of carbonation, a body of medium strength or so.

This was very, very tasty. Cheers Grimm for yet another great beer!

A: medium amber with a slight haze, fat white foam top

S: dazzling citric and floral aromas carrying currents of fresh grain beneath

T: bursting with bright flowers and juicy citric elements - part grapefruit, lemon, and orange; malt base supports without taking anything away from the barrage of hop action

M: medium weight, ample carbonation, massive crisp bitterness

O: an epically-hopped American-ish tripel featuring Falconer's Flight hops - not to be missed.

Poured into a Wicked Weed snifter. No freshness date.

A- Pours a dark golden color with a 3/4 inch off-white head that retains well before becoming a thick ring around the edge of the glass and a mostly full sheet of sheer surface foam. Semi-resilient, bubbly lacing.

S- Belgian esters provide notes of bubble gum and spice. Faint piney hops.

T- Interesting display of Belgian yeast, alcohol and some mild hop character. Pretty drinkable for how strong it is. Notes of lemon, banana and candied orange. Medium-to-high bitterness.

M- Somewhat sharp from the hops with medium carbonation and a body leaning toward the lighter side.

O- Nice to see a Belgian IPA back on the market since it's been quite some time since I've seen one. This one is nice in its delivery but could use a little more in the way of both yeast and hop characteristic.

A: The beer is relatively clear yellow in color and has a moderate amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a half finger high white head that died down, leaving a thin layer of bubbles that covered most of the surface and a collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Light to moderate aromas of grapefruit and tropical fruit hops are present in the nose.
T: As in the smell, the taste is dominated by a blend of different flavors from the hops—grapefruit, lemons and tropical fruits seem to stand out in particular. There is a light to moderate amount of bitterness. Notes of alcohol are noticeable towards the finish but these are mostly replaced flavors of tropical fruits as the beer warms up.
M: It feels medium-bodied and somewhat crisp on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: The blend of hops used in this beer creates interesting complexities in the smell and taste. This beer wasn't that difficult to drink considering its strength, but the initial tastes of alcohol before the beer warmed up were a little of a put off.

Pours deep orange. Nice white head. Nice lacing aroma wheat and rotten orange peels. Taste is not my style at all. I shared with my bff he stopped talking to me. Love Grimm but this is bad.
