Brewed by:
Grimm Artisanal Ales
New York, United States

Style: Belgian Saison

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 6.00%

Availability: Limited (brewed once)

Notes / Commercial Description:
Hazy and pale golden, there is a backdrop of orange character, slightly bitter and tangy, that follows with each sip. We brewed this farmhouse ale with 240 lbs. of organic valencia oranges, which we zested and juiced ourselves by hand! To further accentuate the fruit character of this saison, we fermented it with a blend of our two favorite farmhouse ale yeasts, which add notes of lemon, tart peach, and black pepper. Subtle, easy drinking, and refreshing, enjoy this with friends during these final days of summer.

This beer is retired; no longer brewed.

Bottle shared by Bob yesterday.

Pours a hazy pale yellow, with a big 2 inch head, and a little bit of lacing.

Smells like oranges and orange peel, pepper, and Belgian yeast.

This one is solid, if unspectacular, but made much better by the fruit additions. Quite juicy, both from the hops used and actual orange use. It's your typical dry and slightly funky saison underneath.

This one has a fairly light body, with a decent amount of carbonation. Very drinkable.

Another good brew from these guys, I am always interested in seeing what they're up to.

A: The beer is slightly hazy golden yellow in color and has a light to moderate amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a quarter finger high white head that died down, leaving a patch of bubbles in the center, a collar around the edge of the glass, and a thin film of bubbles on the surface in between.
S: Light to moderate of Belgian yeast are present in the nose along with notes of peppery spices and hints of orange
T: The taste follows the smell, but the flavors of oranges are stronger—resembling those of orange peels—and are nearly as strong as the yeasty and peppery flavors.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied and somewhat dry on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: I thought that the addition of oranges really complemented this saison as these along with the yeast were well balanced.

On draft at Churchkey in D.C.

Hazy, yellowish golden body with a small, white head. Oranges, zest, floral, citrus aroma. Some cracked pepper in the flavor with yeast and oranges. Light to medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Decent.

A cloudy white-gold beer, little head, a thin island is all. Almost looks still.

Not much aroma, some peachy fruitiness and subtle tart with a hint of citrus.

There's the advertised orange, in the sip, strong mix with the funk and tart of the yeast. Pepper sure kicks in as some pithy citrus dries this baby out. Interesting and complex mix of flavors here, kinda dig it. Just sweet enough to give a slight juiciness to the finish.

Definitely undedrcarbed for style, feels almost like a lambic in the mouth, which doesn't work for me here. Nicely viscous, killer finish, very clean linger even with all the resiny elements, on the positive side.

Excellent beer from a brewery recently on the radar here. I wonder if there is bottle variation of carbonation? Recommended for sure.

Thanks to GRG1313 for sharing this one at his tasting.

Pours a hazy golden-orange with a foamy off-white head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of grain, honey, citrus zest, and yeast aromas. Taste is much the same with grain, honey, spice, Belgian yeast, and slight citrus zest flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of yeast bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer that smells nice, but the ingredients work better together in the taste.
