Pours sort of a murky brown with not much of a head. Smell is faint leathery tang. Taste is similar, but with some undercurrents of fruit. It's finely carbonated, a little slick. Nice take on the style.

I like the crystals on the bottle. Had a few really good ones from Grimm so far, how will they fare with a fruity sour.

A- Bottle pours a crimson brew to a chalice and a small pink cap forms with foamy consistency and fair retention. Lacing from the small belt is spotty and rare.

S- Not quite what I would expect from a blackberry sour, kind of reminds me of a lager in a way with bready and nutty tones. Blackberries are fairly strong with obvious fruity berry notes.

T- Blackberry is almost all of the flavor profile for me; fresh with hints from the seeds and all feeling authentic. Really not much else beyond that for me with light hints of lactic tartness and some caramelized grains.

MF- Medium bodied for the style while the texture is foamy and fizzy. High end carbonation and just a tad tart.

Blackberry is pretty much the only thing really happening in this one for me aside from a bit of caramel and yeast flavors. For me it lacks a lot of what Oud Bruins bring to the table in sours and complexity.

EBF sample. Poured a brownish color with some purple highlights if my mind isn't playing tricks. Aroma is slightly sweet and tart...kind of like a blackberry. The flavor is quite tasty as well. Some sweet caramel complements the tartness. The berry is sweet and tart. A good balance of flavors here. Gradient has some body as well. Sour brown with blackberries, as good as it sounds.

22 oz bottle was poured into a Chimay goblet.

Appearance: A one finger off white head was poured that reduced to a thin layer. It is a ruby brown color with no vision of anything.

Smell: Blackberry, caramel, bready, tart, and fruity sour notes.

Taste: Definitely blackberry sweetness. Then the tart, dour, caramel, and bready points kick in. Nice tartness and bitterness to this beer from the fruit too.

Mouthfeel: Light to medium bodied, a little chewy, tart, pucker, some blackberry sweetness, a little watery, and medium carbonation.

Overall: A nice blackberry sour brown ale. I could revisit this one again in the near future.

Mar 2015 bottle, opened Aug 2015

A - murky mahogany body with a light tan head with touches of pink highlights. Nice retention and low lace.

S - blackberry, black cherry, tart raspberry, prunes, and touch of apple cider vinegar.

T - Interesting. Definitely appropriately labeled as a "young brun"; it feels like it could benefit from some age and complexity. Apple cider vinegar, oak, bread crust, apricot, and seltzer.

M - thin body that drops out quickly.

O - I like the idea and he spirit of the beer, but it falls a little short in practice.
