A: The beer is very hazy pale light yellow in color. It poured with a finger high bright white head that left some patches of bubbles on the surface and a narrow collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Light aromas of sour limes are present in the nose along with notes of spruce tips.
T: The taste follows the smell but has stronger and more balanced flavors of spruce tips.
M: It feels a bit more than light-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: I enjoyed the taste of this beer as you really got a lot of spruce tip flavors without it being overpowering.

Super Spruce! This damn beer was on my wants list for…six years? I dunno. I love spruce beers. 16 oz. can split with my wife.

Very light yellow with a bit of haze to it (not that kind) with an all-fruit nose of green apple, lemon, and, yes, spruce. I like.

Super Spruce bites. Lots of gentle sour with a spare chintilla of spruce that might be overlooked if you didn’t have your readers on (that one’s for you, fellow olds). The sour melds to make this feel more like lemon, without the true face one makes. Half this can was just fine.

Well. Needs more spruce. Then probably some more. And saltiness. Mostly just tastes like a standard sour. Decent enough.

This was an easy drinking sour. Had a big lemon/lime flavor. Very sprite like. The spruce wasn’t that apparent. Was hoping for a much bigger pine flavor.

 

 

 

 

A - Pours a lightly hazed bright yellow with a large fizzy white head. The head dissipates quickly leaving leaving spotty lacing.

S - Aroma is lemon, green apple skins, grapefruit pith and spruce tips.

T - The taste is lemon, lime, sea salt, wheat a good punch of spruce tips in the finish.

M - Light body with medium/high carbonation. Creamy mouthfeel with a crisp dry finish.

O - Really impressive Gose. The flavors are bright and refreshing which make this the perfect beer for a warm day.

 

Had this for the first time from a can packaged on 11/2019. Reviewing from a bottle packaged 10/2017 (says to drink fresh lol).

Initial ratings 4.25 across the board.

Golden straw with half-finger loose white foam head. Low retention and little if any lacing

Upfront big grapefruit candy and spruce (not pine). Lemony yeast on the back end along with a candy sour scent

Sprite, grapefruit, pine needles on the low.

Round and fluffy, somewhat fizzy, medium to full umami with good carbonation, even after 2 1/2 years. Not a lot to say about this in a bad light. One of my favorite beers of all time (Ratings won’t reflect this) I love spruce and I think sahati is one of the coolest and most beautiful styles of beers. I know this isn’t that but damn, it’s pretty close.

Pours out lighter, near golden in color, with a moderate haze and under a whispy off white cap, film and fine ringed and scattered lacing.

On the nose, this one is loaded with lemon/lime notes.

Bright, fresh and refreshing... loaded on the palate with biting, clean and moderately tart lime notes. Different, well crafted and interesting ...worth a try

Can poured into a Russian River Brewing Co pub glass

A: Pours golden straw with a frothy white head that settles to a firm layer and laces very nicely.

S: Lively spruce, a little resinous pine, lactic tartness, a touch of salt, and a hint of citrus.

T: Pleasantly tart, spicy spruce comes right out with some extra resinous piney notes in there for good measure, faint citrus, a little wheat twang, and a nice touch of salt.

M: Light to medium body, somewhat mild carbonation, fairly soft.

O: Had a taste of this one a few years ago and have been wanting to try it again ever since. Just as good as I remember. Really cool beer.

This beer smells incredible. Lemon-lime, pine, herbs! Lead to a very interesting and complex taste, heavy on the lemon.

Pours a clear yellow from a can into a tall, fluted glass. Almost no head or lacing. Usually not a big gose fan, but enjoyed this.

Can dated 11/22/18 into pint glass. Pours a hazy straw color with a brief white head. Initial impression is a ton of puckery lemon, with a rather odd saltiness and some resin (spruce? I've never actually eaten any spruce but I'll take their word for it) on top of toasty malts. A nice sweetness becomes evident as it warms, which complements the saltiness nicely. Mouthfeel is sharp and dry; carbonation is medium. Finish is dry and lemon-y, gradually fading to a slight bitterness on the back of the tongue.
This is one interesting beer. Not sure I'd revisit it, but it certainly was entertaining.

Pours cloudy bright gold color with a robust, foamy 3 finger head that retains moderately well but leaves little lacing. This is truly beautiful looking.

The aroma is strong with notes your nose is not used to. Lemony sour and spruce pitch together is a little unsettling for me and not exactly appealing. Just kinda hits a wrong nerve in me. Someone below suggested old dish water... fitting if the dishes had 3 day old lemon basted chicken on them.

The flavor is similar in that a strong lemon tartness is upfront quickly followed by a warmer pine flavor that carries the mid-taste and slowly fades into the finish where the lemon dies off. There is a slight sweetness that enters in the mid taste that helps balance off the lemon but is fairly low in the background, felt most in the finish. Malt feels really light in this one as it appears to be putting all its chips into the dominant flavors. They don't say it is a Gose on the can so not sure what to think. I'm definitely getting salt flavor and I could be convinced of coriander.

Feel is light and bright, maybe slightly soft. There is a high seltzer that arrives in the mid taste and leaves the tongue tingling in the finish.

This is an odd one and I knew it would be. Thankfully I found it as a single in a local store. I would like this more if it weren't for the unappealing smell that you get a whiff of with every sip. The further I get into the can more of the sweet comes out and really proves that it is critical to the success of this beer. It is far too sharp and tangy early on. Overall a bold choice that deserves being tried for the adventurous. I am unfamiliar with Grimm but will look out for what else they have. This is well made, just funky. I assume many others from Grimm are like that too.

L: Hazy and opaque, light straw color.

S: Juicy, hoppy, and tart. Missing out on piney-ness.

T: Mildly tart and salty to start, then hoppy bitterness, with a light wheat finish with a little lingering bitterness.

F: Juicy.

O: Flavor combination keeps you interested, but nothing that overwhelms its drinkability. Refreshing. Probably good on a hot summer day (drank on a snowy night.)

Decanted from a 16 oz (473 ml) can into a Tree House snifter; canned on 11/12/18.
A: Pours a hazy, golden color with a brief, less than one finger, white head, retention quickly no more than a rim, and no lacing.
S: Tangy with aromas of grapefruit, lime, vanilla, sea salt, and pine. Very grainy up from with a touch of straw.
T: Dry to semidry and tart. Lime replaces grapefruit as the dominant citrus in the flavor pallet, sea salt very evident with toast and eucalyptus notes. Bitterness very much present, if a touch in the background.
M: Medium bodied with light carbonation. Clean finishing.
O: Really appreciate the use of novel flavors in a Leipzig Gose. Well balanced. Very enjoyable: could see drinking this on a hot summer day, pining for cooler weather.

16 ounce can into tulip glass, canned on 11/12/2018. Pours very hazy pale golden yellow color with a 1-2 finger dense and rocky white head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big tart lemon, lime, orange, grapefruit, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, mango, honeydew melon, guava, red/green apple, white grape/wine, berries, citrus peel/zest, spruce, hay, straw, herbal, floral, grass, wheat, cracker, and white bread; with lighter notes of peppercorn, pine, sea salt, leathery/musty/lacto funk, white wine vinegar, and yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of citrus/fruity/tropical hops, fruity/funky/acidic yeast, spruce tips, and moderate pale/wheat malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big tart lemon, lime, orange, grapefruit, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, mango, honeydew melon, guava, red/green apple, white grape/wine, berries, citrus peel/zest, spruce, hay, straw, herbal, floral, grass, wheat, cracker, and white bread; with lighter notes of peppercorn, pine, sea salt, leathery/musty/lacto funk, white wine vinegar, and yeast earthiness. Light-moderate lactic tartness; pine, herbal, floral, grassy bitterness; and peppery yeast/spruce spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of tart lemon, lime, orange, grapefruit, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, mango, honeydew melon, guava, red/green apple, white grape/wine, berries, citrus peel/zest, spruce, hay, straw, herbal, floral, grass, wheat, cracker, white bread, peppercorn, pine, sea salt, light funk/vinegar, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical hops, fruity/funky/acidic yeast, spruce tips, and moderate pale/wheat malt flavors; with an awesome malt, tart, bitter, spiciness balance; and no puckering/astringent flavors after the finish. Light-moderate increasing dryness from lingering bitterness, spiciness, and tartness. Medium carbonation and light-medium body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/grainy/acidic/sticky, fairly crisp, and lightly saline balanced mouthfeel that is fantastic. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 4.7%. Overall this is an incredible dry hopped gose. All around fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical hops, fruity/funky/acidic yeast, spruce tips, and moderate pale/wheat malt flavors; very smooth and fairly crisp/refreshing to drink with the modestly acidic/bitter/spicy/drying finish; not overly lactic or salty. Amazing balance of juicy/lightly dank hops, Brett/Lacto complexity, and spruce tips; with a solid pale/wheat malt backbone against acidity. A highly enjoyable offering, and amazing style example. Not overwhelming on any aspect.

Oh man, I didn't want to like it as much as I do. This thing is both sour and piney, while at the same time remaining light. Looks fantastic too, with above-average head retention, and way-above-average lacing for the gose style. The smell is tart with notes of lime, and... pine (who would have guessed). The taste follows with a mix of lime and pine notes, as stated above. This thing comes with relatively full body considering it's only got 4.6% ABV. Man, do I wish I had some more.

Poured on draft at the brewery.

Pours a hazy golden yellow color with a good finger of white head. The head leaves a ton of lacing before disappearing into a thin white ring.

The aroma brings notes of spruce needles and old dish water. Not pleasant.

The flavor doesn't fare much better. Some tart lemon notes and spruce with a funky, earthy note that calls back to the dirty dishwater note from the nose.

The feel is about right. Medium light bodied with good carbonation. Crisp with a dry finish.

Overall, I'm just not feeling this one. I can understand why people enjoy this but to my palate it just doesn't work at all. To each their own.
