Bottle from February 2016, held since purchase. Had heard a bunch of theservice were infected so was nervous but thankfully I skirted the infection and drinking just fine.
pours as you'd expect, black as a stout. nosecarries some heat and hints and bourbon with subtle maple notes. maple is also subtle on the taste but is there and overpowers the bourbon...you get some boozy sharpness but it could be any spirit.
all in all good, not great. just timid. nothing jumps out but it is tasty. with maple aND bourbon I have certain expectations that are not met...but that saod, what you've got here is a dangerously drinkable silky BA stout.

A: poured into a snifter to a black beer topped by a finger and a half of dense tan head that fades slowly to a small with minimal lacing
S: Smells of roasted coffee and dark chocolate with some maple, oak and bourbon notes
T: Taste is maple sweetness, cocoa powder, cold brewed coffee, oak and some caramel and vanilla sweetness. Swallow is slightly astringent oak and charred wood with some lingering maple, caramel, vanilla and booziness
M: This beer is thick and velvety on the palate with soft carbonation that is adequate for the style with a drying finish
O: Overall this is a good beer but it isn't quite as good as some others. The astringency is a little off but it doesn't detract too far. Alcohol is a little more apparent than I would like for the ABV and style. It shows promise but I think they could do this one better if they were to try again.

Oh lord, this was terrible. Bottle about 1.5 years old. Smelled like vegetables. Look was murky brown-black. Taste was very, very off putting. No barrel whatsoever, or maple. Tasted like sugar mixed with rotted asparagus. Drain pour. Bottle purchased in California. I want my $17 back.

Bottle aged 1 year, it pours pitch black color with a 1 finger foamy light brown colored head that faded slowly and left very nice spotty lacing.
Smells of maple syrup up front but then it gets overtaken by bourbon and burnt coffee. Lots of roast, char, brown sugar, chocolate, toffee, caramel, light cinnamon and bakers chocolate. A lovely mix of roasted coffee, light oak, bourbon and malty sweetness, but the maple syrup and bourbon were both a bit lighter than I expected.
Tastes like it smells but with more chocolate and booze, some molasses, Hershey's chocolate syrup, ashy or charred wood, espresso, toasted nuts, brownie batter and light vanilla. Malty, sweet and boozy with a ton of complexities that keep wave after wave of chocolate and bourbon.
Mouthfeel is pretty thin for a stout, but the body was average and smooth enough that it was very enjoyable for me. Mild carbonation and a cold pressed coffee like aftertaste which trails off slightly bitter. A really enjoyable brew.

Released February, 2016.
Moderate pour yields a 3/4 inch tan head, dark brown body, and very short-lived lacing. Nose of milk chocolate, vanilla, maple, bourbon, and some oak. Taste follows nicely with a little bitterness on the back end. Feel is a bit thin, but overall this is one you should seek out.

Lovely grimm offering, my favorite dark beer offering for sure. Huge improvement from the base beer which in short, to me anyways, had a strong bourbon nose and no barrel taste. This has a beautiful compliment of both barrel and maple sweetness. The sweetness cuts any heat while not overpowering tannins and smoky, rye flavor.
