A delicate, light-bodied farmhouse ale featuring Azacca hops. Hoppy, funky, crisp, fruity, dry, refreshing. Collaboration with Flagship Brewing Co.

Liquid Crystal is a delicate, light-bodied farmhouse ale brewed with our friends at Flagship Brewing Co on Staten Island. It is saturated with a blend of west coast hops prominently featuring Azacca. Brewed to marry complexity with maximum slammability: hoppy, funky, crisp, fruity, dry, refreshing. RIYL la vermontoise, apex predator, grizzaca.

May 2017 old bottle

Pours bright amber gold with a dense creamy white foam head. Smells floral and spicy, hoppy with some orchard fruit notes, tropical fruit, apple, papaya, pineapple, citrus, apricot, banana, black peppery spice, honey cereal grain malts, wildflowers, and floral earthy herbal grass. Tastes like caramelized honey cereal grain malts, grapefruity citrus, papaya, pineapple, apricot, apple, banana, black pepper spice, wildflowers, with floral earthy herbal grassy notes. Feels medium-light bodied, creamy and crisp with smooth moderate carbonation. Overall a nice farmhouse pale ale.

Poured into a tulip from a bottle dated May 2017.
Look - A nice crystal clear straw color with ample head that lingers for a while and leaves behinds a generous amount of lacing. Lots of carbonation allow bubbles to continuously rise from the bottom of the glass.
Smell - Very nice aroma with hints of citrus, spicy hops, and malt
Taste - A lot of floral flavors with some spice and a considerable amount of yeast.
Feel - After a nice upfront taste, leaves a sharp bitter taste in your mouth.
Overall - A decent Saison, certainly not the best offering that I have had from Grimm, but a nice summer drink.

Poured a light apricot color with a 4 finger head in a Mikasa tulip.
Excellent head retention.

Very floral aroma, sweet, fruit- very different. Azacca hops bring out unique flavors.

Slightly tart MF. Spicy.

The taste follows the aroma: fruit, spicy, and licorice.

Spicy, hoppy finish.

Quite unique approach to a Farmhouse Ale. Grimm is the "different drummer" brewery. Great beers. 45-50° to bring out the best in flavor.

A bright yellow, mostly clear beer with a fluffy white head that hangs around quite a while and leaves gobs of lacing behind. Smells like a Belgian with some banana and clove components. There is also a bit of sweetness, lemon and spicy hops in the nose. Tastes pleasant with the banana, clove and pepper flavors with some lemon and yeastiness. Ended bitter but not lingering. This was a decent and enjoyable brew.

Look: It pours yellow with an off white head. Head retention is good with some Belgian lace. There is good clarity.

Smell: The aromas are feature with earthly elements, citrus and lemon. The lemon is the most prominent of the aromas. There are some background notes of spice.

Taste: Lemon, citrus, and orange are the initial flavors. The earthly elements are low in the background. There are some low spicy elements. There are low levels of grain in the background.

Feel: It has a light feel to it with a citrus aftertaste that is ever so slightly tart in the finish.

Overall, it doesn't have the funky elements that most farmhouse ales have, but it has a very tasty lemon, orange and citrus element to it.

Bottle. A messy farmhouse whatever-it-is. Cool bottle art. Pastels! The beer was too musty and immediately sharp. The aroma gave me warning. Really not happy giving a brewery I usually enjoy $10 for a goddamn dud.
