Notes: Blueberry Pop! is a creamsicle-inspired sour ale that pours with a deep purple hue. We paired the creamy sweetness of vanilla and milk sugar with dense blueberry pie flavor. It hits the spot with a balanced profile of sweet and tart.

Picked this beer up a while ago at Grimm, as it had a canning date of 12/26/18 stamped on the bottom. Been a while since I reviewed anything from them but this was one of the more fun and enjoyable releases that I've had from them as it was balanced, just as the description stated. The label said that this was a Sour Ale but in the end, this felt more like a Berliner Weisse to me...

Such a lovely, deep blueberry pour to this with some plum in the hue as well. A loud, bubbly raspberry head topped the liquid off as that quickly settled down and only a bit of lacing in the form of a deep, bubbly ring near the top of my pint glass remained as parts of it bled down before fading away. Blueberry, raspberry, acetate, cobbler, and tartness could be found in the nose as the taste was quite full in body but slick on the palate at the same time. Lively, sour, and needing a bit more creamsicle to it, the sour and lemon notes really took hold once this fully warmed up. A bit of feet funk and lactose lingered in the aftertaste as the depth and sweetness took a while to emerge, but gave this beer the depth that it needed to go beyond it's sea-foam like lightness and durability.

Session beers don't get much better than this as it would be easy to have another one of these after finishing this off. More graham cracker and pie crust would have given this the true body it deserved and countered the berry, tartness, and juicy aspects quite nicely. As it was, this was a beer that had enough sour and creamsicle notes to satisfy me, while having me wanting more and more from it once I finished it off...

Canned 12/26/18.
L: Hazy dark purple/red in appearance depending on the lighting. A standard pour yielded 2 fingers of a foamy pink cap that dissipated quickly. Mild amounts of lacing on the glass. The hue alone makes it appealing.
S: Milk sugar is evident along with a prominent berry tartness. It doesn't smell like blueberry per say, rather some sort of berry. Not picking up on much (if any) vanilla.
T: Pretty much just as expected given the smell. Natural, tart and bright berry flavor with an underlying lactose foundation. Vanilla adds a touch of complexity right at the finish, providing a pleasant after taste.
F: Medium in body and light in weight. Carbonation is very low but doesn't feel flat, enabling a creamy and soft texture.
O: An enjoyable offering, per usual. I am a huge fan of the Pop! series, and this is no exception. I will say, it ranks on the lower end of the spectrum from others I've tried in the series, but it is still great nonetheless. I am very grateful to have tried. Cheers!

A: Pours an opaque yet still clear deep blackish purple in color with light to moderate amounts of fine active visible carbonation rising along the edges of the glass and moderate amounts of deep garnet red + ruby red colored highlights. The beer has a two finger tall fizzy foamy purplish pink head that quickly reduces to a medium to large sized patch of very thin film covering a little more than 75% of the surface of the beer and a very thin ring at the edges of the glass. Minimal amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Just shy of moderate aromas of tart blueberries with a light amount of lacto tart lemon as well as light to moderate aromas of vanilla. Hints of slightly sour wheat malts with a light amount of lactose sweetness.

T: Upfront there is a light flavor of slightly sour wheat malts with a light to moderate amount of lactose sweetness. That is followed by light flavors of lacto tart lemon and slightly stronger than moderate flavors of tart blueberries. Light flavors of vanilla in the finish. Light amounts of tartness lingers through the finish.

M: Light to medium bodied with just shy of moderate amounts of carbonation. Light amounts of acidic prickliness and a hint of creaminess.

O: Easy to drink with well hidden alcohol. Enjoyable as a nice light dessert beer with some light lactose sweetness and tart blueberries.

A: The beer is very dark purple when viewed from afar and is dark purplish red when held up to a bright light, having a light amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a quarter finger high dark pink head that quickly settled down, leaving a narrow collar around the edge of the glass and some specks of bubbles on the surface.
S: Light to moderate aromas of blueberries and vanilla are present in the nose.
T: The taste follows the smell, having moderately strong flavors of blueberries with strong notes of vanilla as well as hints of milk sugar and associated sweetness.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied, a little tart, and faintly creamy on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This makes for a pleasant dessert beer with its berry flavors, splashes of vanilla and the light amount of sweetness.

One of my top 3 favorite in Pop! series (of all I have tried). It has a blackberry/blueberry color that is unlike any other beer. Only wines mirror such bold color. The taste is great- smooth, blueberry but not sweet, sour without pucker. Goes down easy and makes you want more. A must try for fruity sour lovers.

Pours a murky reddish purple, with some soapy head.

Smell is crisp and tart, with notes of blueberries and some raspberries.

Taste is refreshingly tart, almost sour with subtle but distinct notes of ripe blueberries and raspberries. A slight bitterness comes in on the dry finish.

Overall, such a delightul sour. Balanced and drinkable, and very refreshing.

Dark pinkish color on first pour, got cloudier and had some sediment in it as I got to the bottom of the 22oz bottle. Blueberry and vanilla in the nose. Tart taste with blueberry, Vanilla and some lemon. A little on the ticker side for the series. Decent beer, but the thickness and sediment make this one of the weaker Pop! series beers.

A wonderful purple haze (while I kiss the sky)! :) A slight head, but no lacing. Slight tartyness with hint of blueberry, vanilla and a nice citrus balance. Tartness with blueberry, vanilla and citrus accents, light, refreshing and well carbonated. Overall a very nice blueberry variation gose, well balanced with a nice subtle character.

22 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled in 6/2017. Pours lightly hazy reddish/pink/purple color with a 1-2 finger foamy light pink head with good retention, that reduces to a thin spotty lace cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big tart/sour blueberries, fruit skin, cherry, plum, lemon, lime, green apple, red grape, hay, grass, wheat, cracker, vanilla, cream, light lacto funk/pepper, and yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of fruity/acidic yeast, blueberries, vanilla, lactose, and light-moderate pale malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big tart/sour blueberries, fruit skin, cherry, plum, lemon, lime, green apple, red grape, hay, grass, wheat, cracker, vanilla, cream, light lacto funk/pepper, and yeast earthiness. Light fruity/lactic tartness, fruit tang, and yeast spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of tart blueberries, fruit skin, cherry, plum, lemon, lime, green apple, red grape, hay, grass, wheat, cracker, vanilla, cream, light lacto funk/pepper, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a short bit. Great complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/acidic yeast, blueberries, vanilla, lactose, and light-moderate pale malt flavors; with an awesome malt/tart/spiciness balance, and zero puckering/astringent flavors after the finish. High carbonation and light-medium body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/grainy, and acidic/tangy/tannic balanced mouthfeel that is great. Very crisp, foamy, and dry from carbonation. Clean finishing. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 4.8%. Overall this is an excellent fruited Berliner weisse. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/acidic yeast, blueberries, vanilla, lactose, and light-moderate pale malt flavors; very smooth crisp, clean, and refreshing to drink; with the balanced tart/dry finish. Really great balance of the base style and fruit flavors. The lactose balances the acidity, and the carbonation makes this insanely easy to drink. A very enjoyable offering, and great style example.

Just as the name suggests, the racy ale simply "pops" off of the tongue with zest and zeal. Upon the berry backbone of blueberry, a host of fruit, sweet and sour tastes intertwine for a rich but refreshing session.

Candied and pastry-like, the scent of dark fruit juices permeate the nose. Tantalizing with blueberry, cherry, plum and blackcurrant, even a hint of prune registers with the condenses sweet and fruity scent. Like saltwater taffy against the tongue, the mauve and somewhat still ale pops off of the front of the tongue like pop rocks candy.

As the fruit flavors develop, the juiciness does so also. Its bright berry tang and robust berry taste intensifies with a juicy, tangy and robust "blue" character. With the zest of skins, seeds and pulp of blueberry the beer's lemony, lime-like, briney taste is bright with orange peel to follow, a lightly spicy bitterness rises to temper the moderate sweetness and the dark fruitiness. Trending tart, crisp and clean, the finish is of blueberry, red wine and dry cider.

Medium light, crisp and highly refreshing, the sour ale continues its semidry and sour track with a bright and thirst-stripping acidity. Fruity and clean, the ale closes with a medium-short trail of berry, must and vanilla cream.

Moderate pour yields a 3/4 inch light pink head over a reddish pink body with no lacing. Nose of berries. Taste of sour berries and blueberries. Good feel with a sweet middle and dry finish. Overall, the description says dessert berliner wiesse, but it wasn't too sweet and I'd share this the next time. Cheers!

Hazy purplish hue with a tall, foamy, quickly fading head. Blueberries in the nose, but sharper than the other Pop!s...earthy spice and faint vanilla warmth. Juicy berry tartness, lemon acidity, earth, and subtle vanilla. Super dry, frothy, puckering feel. Not bad - not as good as the others.

Purchased warm - Bottle chilled to 45F - Botltle dated June 2017 - Poured into a tulip glass

L - Pours a hazy dark red grape color with a fizzy off-purple 1 finger head that dissipates incredibly quickly leaving absolutely no lacing as it goes down.

S - Lactic sour, generic champagne, ever so slight blueberry.

T - Wine-ish ripe fruit and sour mingle incoherently, an odd upstart of muted sweetness jumping up halfway into the sip. There are no other discernible flavors or features past the taste.

F - Light bodied with incredibly fine carbonation.

O - I'm disappointed in this one. Grimm is typically always on the ball and ahead of the curve. This beer however has overplayed its hand and missed the mark. This was supposed to have been a creamsicle inspired dessert Berliner weiss. I fail to capture the dessert factor, there is no vanilla or even a hint of lactose in this brew. All that being said, it was quite interesting and slightly abrasive. Personally the part I most enjoyed was the abrasive sour.

Edit: Slightly revised on the second go round and a bit warmer. Flavor profiles remain the same overall but slightly more intense.
