Reviewed from (long-standing) notes. Poured from the 22 oz. bottle into an El Catador Barrel-Aged glass. Consumed around 10/25/17.

A: Very hazy to turbid dark-ish yellow. Some carbonation appears to be running up the sides of the glass, but it's hazy enough to hide most of the bubbles. Still forms a half-finger of white head, but it fades to a foamy ring quickly.

S: Passion fruit, a tropical fruity mishmash. Tangerines and melons. Lactic tart and citric acid, plus a mild funk. Cracker malts, a bit yeasty. Some nice hop aromas mixing with the tropical-heavy fruit salad. Nice and intriguing aroma.

T: Passion fruit, orange juice, and guava. Citric acid and lactic tartness. Mild pineapple and a lemony sourness. Cracker malt body. There's just a hint of funk, but mostly a clean set of Lactobacillus notes. The hop bitterness mixes with a little of the oak tannins and vanilla at the swallow, and the lactic dryness mixes with the fruity hop bitterness in the hang.

M: A light body, with carbonation sensation that's on the low side but fits the beer fine. Minimal alcohol presence.

O: Tasty and enjoyable and disappearing from my glass quickly. This really hits a nice balance of hops and tart levels, though perhaps not overly complex. Very enjoyable though.

Bright yellow pour with intermittent white lacing on top and on the sides of the glass. The smell was fruity with passion fruit, papaya, and guava first then solid oak and a dry funk to finish. Taste was not as sweet or juicy as expected, rather a technical marvel with the incorporation of oak, well done in that regard. Passion fruit stood up to the oak well, but the rest began to fade quickly into the sip. Sneaky dry in the finish, yet body is decently full for style.

Bottle

A: Gold color, hazy, with a moderate, uniform white head that quickly recedes into the glass.

A: Passion fruit upfront, light tropical hop notes, followed by moderate sourness and white wine character.

T: Passion fruit, light dank and funk, mild tropical fruit, oak with a moderate but clean lingering sourness with a dry finish.

M: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation.

O: Solid; the passion fruit is pretty assertive, but the clean sourness and dry-hopping compliment the beer well.

Pale straw yellow in color withe a quarter inch of frothy off white head on top. The nose is an amazing blend of passion fruit, grassy hops, and woodsy oak. It's hard to describe how perfectly those aromas mesh together. The hop aroma dissipated quickly. I'm tasting passion fruit with earthy light oak. The mouth is very dry from the oak aging and moderately carbonated.

A: Poured into a tulip to a light slightly hazed yellow topped by a finger of dense and soapy white head which slowly fades to a collar around the edge of the glass
S: Smells of light lemony sourness, passionfruit and a little malt with some herbal hop notes
T: Taste is lemony tartness up front with some salt followed by some herbal and lightly citrusy hops and a hint of oak. Slight undertones of passionfruit as well but well incorporated with the other flavors. Swallow is some saltiness, more passionfruit and some light lingering sourness with a little more citrus hop.
M: This beer is light in body but not watery with a level of carbonation which is just below prickly. The beer has a semidry finish as well from the acidity.
O: Overall this one is pretty good. It has some nice flavors and decent complexity. I think it also represents the style well. Worth a try if you like lighter sours.

Poured into a tulip.
The appearance was a mild glossy yellow color with a half finger's worth of quickly dissolving head. Mild sticky concave lace.
The aroma had the sweet to tart passion fruit, fairly bold and up front playing with a sly danky sweet grassy to onion character in the background. Light lemon acidity with a mild funk. Light woody sweet to dry sourness.
The flavor leaned into the sour character initially and developed mild funk and sweet danky character. Also, added a touch of zest. Nice aftertaste of the sour quality punching the lemon, woody and grassy edges nicely.
The mouthfeel was between light and medium bodied with a fair sessionability about it. Carbonation felt good. ABV felt on par. Moderate stickiness but not cloying. Nice zesty non-spicy sweet to funky finish with the passionfruit.
Overall, very nicely done straight up sour ale packing in a ton of other complex features, though it is pretty top heavy in the passion fruit. Give it a little bit and let it open up, it'll impress you.

This beer pours a very cloudy, completely opaque orange juice color. There is a two finger, soapy white head that sticks around for a good while and leaves many whispy webs of lacing all over the glass.

The smell is lemon acidic tartness, passion fruit, mango, grapefruit and a touch of funk.

Taste is similar. The passion fruit and fruity hops hit the palate first, but they are quickly swept aside by a good amount of sourness. 6/10 on the pucker scale. The oak attempts to round out the sourness on the finish, but it really doesn't stand up. I really enjoy the sour flavor though.

Feel is light and smooth with medium carbonation. The finish is very dry.

Overall this is a great beer. I really enjoy almost all of the sours that Grimm puts out. They aren't overly complex, but they are very flavorful.

22oz bottle poured into snifter bottled in July of 2017.

A: murky bright yellow, tan body. Head is a soapy white and sits on the glass at it lingers.

S: lots of passion fruit and some light wheat and crackery malts smells tart.

T: The passion fruit hits you first with some light oak and then the tartness comes in and finishes with a nice crackery and wheat end that is fairly refreshing.

M: Clean light very smooth.

O: This is another dynamite sour by Grimm, they make their fruited ones burst with fruit flavor but then plane them out with tartness. They are never abrasively tart nor are they sickly sweet. An amazing balance as usual by this brewery.

22 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled in 7/2017. Pours moderately hazy pale golden yellow color with a 1 finger dense white head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of big tart/sour lemon, lime, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, guava, berry, grapefruit, tangerine, peach, apricot, citrus peel, green apple, white wine, hay, straw, grass, oak, pepper, wheat, cracker, and white bread; with lighter notes of leathery/musty funk, white wine vinegar, and yeast/oak earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of fruity/funky/acidic yeast, passion fruit, citrus/fruity/tropical hops, and moderate pale malt/oak notes; with great strength. Taste of big tart/sour lemon, lime, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, guava, berry, grapefruit, tangerine, peach, apricot, citrus peel, green apple, white wine, hay, straw, grass, oak, pepper, wheat, cracker, and white bread; with lighter notes of leathery/musty funk, white wine vinegar, and yeast/oak earthiness. Light-moderate fruity/lactic tartness, fruit tang; light yeast/oak spiciness and herbal/grassy/citrus peel bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of tart/sour lemon, lime, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, guava, berry, grapefruit, tangerine, peach, apricot, citrus peel, green apple, white wine, hay, straw, grass, oak, pepper, wheat, cracker, white bread, light funk/vinegar, and yeast/oak earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/acidic yeast, passion fruit, citrus/fruity/tropical hops, and moderate pale malt/oak flavors; with an awesome malt/tartness and tangy fruit balance, with no puckering flavors after the finish. Light-moderate increasing dryness from tartness/fruit tang. Medium carbonation and light-medium body; with a very smooth, moderately bready/grainy/acidic/tangy, and lightly sticky/tannic balanced mouthfeel that is awesome. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 5.3%. Overall this is an outstanding fruited sour/wild ale! All around awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/funky/acidic yeast, passion fruit, citrus/fruity/tropical hops, and moderate pale malt/oak flavors; very smooth and refreshing to drink with the modestly lactic/tangy/drying finish. Awesome mix of passion fruit, Brett, Lacto, and hop complexity. Nice solid malt backbone to balance acidity, and nice overall oak presence. A highly enjoyable offering, and spot on style example.

In a world where art imitates life and life imitates art, the craft beer population is no different. As our most prized hops seem to taste like tropical fruit, its often that the fruit also tries to taste like hops. But can't we all get along? Grimm brewers think so as their wild ale splits the character of hops and passionfruit straight down the middle.

Passion Dome pours a hazy canary yellow and entices the nose with a breadth of tropical, tangy and citrus fruits and a grassy potpourri. Briskly malty, the beer splashes the front of the tongue with taffy, sourdough and the softness of fresh yeast.

And as the sweetness drifts away, the sharp sourness of the wild ale underneath begins to shine with its own weathered lime, lemon, green apple, white grape, gooseberry and rice wine acidity. Its strong passionfruit presence offers a zing and a zeal that bounces off of the tongue like peach, nectarine or apricot. Trailing into a herbal and moderately bitter finish, the taste of grapefruit peel rises along with fresh grass clippings and hints of geranium.

Medium light in body, the bracingly acidic ale teases the finish with a tingle of sourness, pepper and vinous white wine. Sparkling, brisk and racy, the finish is musty with suggestions of burlap, worn oak and a faint corkish must.

On tap at Stoneyard Craft Beer Hall and Grill in Penfield, NY.

This one pours a thick and hazy, pure juice look, with a small head and just a bit of lacing.

This smells super strongly of very sour passionfruit, with hop accented lemon and pineapple. This smells pretty great.

The passionfruit absolutely dominates here, with a nice citrusy hop presence- mainly lemon, pineapple, and a bit of orange. There's no bitterness, and a fairly significant sourness.

This is really quite drinkable, with a slight lingering sourness on the finish.

This is fairly simple, but so juicy and so drinkable.
