The second in our series of Hyperfocus single hop double IPA’s! This time, we’ve put the focus on Citra hops. A perennial favorite, Citra is beloved for its big tropical fruit character of mango and citrus, but it’s not a one-trick pony; this hop also displays additional layers of dank herbal aroma such as oregano, marijuana, and chive.

Pours a hazy golden with white head. Get papaya and mint on the nose, maybe some Dole pineapple and perhaps some underripe mango. It's got some Mango frooti character as well as some grapefruit peel edginess. It's got a slight Sprite, nay Sierra Mist finish. It's slightly thin in terms of feel too. It's good, but not great IMO.

Pours a hazy orange color. A large rocky head retains well. Thick and sticky rings of lacing further in.
What a nose! As soon as I crack the can open, I get juicy aromas of mango, pineapple, passion fruit, grapefruit, lime and candied orange. Very dank with notes of pine, grass, cannabis and floral spices.
Opens juicy and sweet with a bready malt backbone giving way to an explosion of hops flavors. Notes of pineapple, grapefruit rind, mango, orange, passion fruit, biscuit, honeysuckle, and a touch of sweet alcohol spice. Bitterness develops, especially in the finish, and is accompanied by resiny and herbal spices; peppery, piney, grassy and floral.
Medium to full bodied, drinks very well. Finish is long, smooth and semi dry, with some alcohol warming and hops spices. Carbonation is moderate to gentle. Mouthfeel is smooth and slightly creamy.
I like what they did with the focus on Citra hops, great nose and nice hops flavors. I would have again.

Look: Pours a hazy and fuzzy light yellow color with a two finger satin white head of foam that laces the glass very well. Average head retention.
Aroma: Soft apricot, pineapple candy and orange. Very gentle hints of spruce clippings with a mild sauteed onion note to it on the tail end.
Taste: Soft and fluffy. Nicely balanced with gentle flavors of apricot jam, orange sorbet and pineapple preserve. Some bready notes of biscuits and lightly toasted grain. Bitterness is very mild, rolling over the entire tasting experience in gentle waves of grapefruit peel and pinesap.
Feel: Velvety and soft. Low viscosity and slick, but sticks to the palate in a creamy way. Low carbonation. Sweet. Alcohol profile is low, almost undetectable.
Overall: This was slightly one dimensional but it's an excellent beer and a great showcase of Citra hops.

A: The beer is very hazy and a bit pale yellow in color. It poured with a quarter finger high white head that died down a bit but consistently left a short head covering teh surface as well as some lacing down the sides of the glass.
S: Moderate aromas of lime citrus are present in the nose along with notes of gooseberry.
T: The taste follows the smell and has flavors of lime and gooseberry with notes of lychee from the Citra hops.
M: It feels medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: I found the taste of this single hop IPA to be quite interesting and complex. It also drinks rather well for an Imperial IPA.

On tap at Grimm in Brooklyn.
Pours a hazy light orange with soft, thick head.
Smell is dank with notes of melon, peaches and a hint of licorice.
Taste is slightly sweet with strong notes of melon and some juicy peaches. Slightly dank with a nice, balanced bitterness and plenty of hop bite, along with some hints of vanilla and licorice.
Mouthfeel is medium, soft and pillowy, well carbonated.
Overall, a terrific DIPA, way too easy to drink for the ABV.
