Notes:
Butterfly Door is sister to Lambo Door and Suicide Door. It is loaded with gummy bear hop flavor and double dry-hopped with El Dorado, Citra, and Cashmere hops. It explodes out of the glass with flavors of pineapple, guava, lime, coconut, orange blossoms, mango, gumdrops, and creamsicle deliciousness.

Tropical, pineapple and melon on the nose. Tastes a lot like melon/cantaloupe. Feel is medium carbonated - less rather than more provides for a softer feel on this. Overall, I think people who like melon will enjoy this more than I did. But it’s still very good.

I look forward to the rerelease of this beer more than any other made in the NYC area. The last batch tasted and smelled amazing, and oddly had visible chunks of hops floating around. Not sure what that was about, but would definitely buy again.

If you enjoy the cloudy appearance of NEIPAs, this one has it in spades. Beyond presentation, you're left with a pretty good, albeit far from world-class beer, and that is OK. I am not a fan of the flavors or aromas that cashmere hops produce, yet I will say that this is the best use of cashmere to date. The other hops took center stage leaving the coconut notes muted and barely detectable. The mouthfeel is a bit chalky, but it doesn't leave an aftertaste that lingers in an unpleasant way. Worth checking out.

Canned on 5-21-20.
A - Very hazy light to medium orange color with dense creamy white lacing. There's some serious retention on the glass when it's swirled or rotated...really impressive.
S - Nose is dominated with orange, mango, and some guava.
T - Juicy mango, guava, and pineapple from start to finish. Starts strong and finishes strong and juicy and on the sweeter citrus side.
M - Thick and slick on the palate and coats the mouth with a healthy layer of hoppy citrus goodness that turns the mouth to cotton.
O - Grimm never disappoints with their IPA's (at least the ones I've had the opportunity to try so far). No complaints here and recommended.

Bright orange with gold tinge; soft fluffy white head that leaves minimal lacing. Nose is a melon blast to the olfactories with a slight dank weed at the end that then walks arm-in-arm between peach and melon all the way down the sip. Smooth, easy drinking; soft palate feel without being too soft. Nice little note of bitterness at the end of the sip around the sides and back of the tongue that lingers in the mouth until the next march of the peach-melon-cannabis crew. Delightful.

Can from While Foods on the UES NYC. Pours opaque/lightly hazy/glowing light amber gold with a finger of fluffy to rocky white head, nice lacing, smell is mildly dank and citrusy hop hard candy, orange rind, pineapple, hints of caramel and stone fruit, taste is caramel malts up front with some melon/papaya, transitions to zesty grapefruit flesh, hints of lemon and lime zest, this has an underlying vein of pineapple, coconut, and tropical fruit juice, feel is medium bodied with bright carbonation. A zippy tropical/pina colada grapefruit soda, dangerously crushable at 8% ABV.

Butterfly Door - you know like a DeLorean. Oooo K. Moving on.
It's a semi hazy pale amber with great head retention and some lacing.
Aroma is different - lots of fruit in the nose, pineapple and pear with a touch of citrus and yeasty phenols. The aromas hang in there and don't blow off.
Taste is also unique with a lot of mid boil hop character that blends well with some very weirdly yummy baked goods flavors - fruit filled cookies with a zucchini bread nuttiness.
Bittering is tame and allows those more interesting flavors to do their thang and coat the mouth with sugary herbaceous hop goodness.
Body is medium and at 8% this is barely a double making it quite drinkable.
The finish is sort of sudden leaving a grapefruit type flavor and dryness on the palate and gratefully not a burning bite.
Great use of fruity "new age" hops without going overboard on the "juice" and a light hand on the boiled alpha acids give this more depth and complexity than many IPAs on the market now.
I like it and would recommend it to anyone who balks at more heavily hopped/bitter IPAs.
