10 March 2020 - Beer #45

A quick thank you to my followers. We're up to well over 100 after my last post. Let's keep this beer-party train a-rollin'! Beer: Just Intonation
Brewery: Grimm Artisan Ales
Location: Brooklyn, NY
Style: American Wild Ale
ABV: 6.0%
Price: $17.99 at Food Emporium 8th Ave in Manhattan
Description: Just Intonation, a blended barrel-aged golden sour refermented on red raspberries, is bright and tangy like a raspberry lemon square that delivers the rich aroma of caramelized fruit with an added acidity that tickles the nose. It hits the taste buds like a raw cranberry juice with lime–a complex tartness that fades to a subtle house mixed-culture funky finish.

Appearance: 5 - a deep, ruby red with a gigantic, fluffy pink head. Super carbonated out of the bottle. Almost a gusher.

Nose: 5 - as intensely raspberry as possible. I even coughed a little bit.

Taste: 4 - definitely strong raspberry, which is very pleasant. Not as sour as the nose pretended. I get these musty undertones that are very interesting. Not great, but interesting.

Mouth: 5 - you bet, is the tiny bubbles show again. And they are everywhere. Could gargle it all day.

Overall: 5 - another very fine sour from Grimm. They might just have figured out the whole sour thing.

Cheers!

On tap at Arts and Crafts Beer Parlour, NYC.
Pours a raspberry colored liquid, moderate head and decent retention for the style.
Aroma opens with light funk, followed by, of course, raspberries. There is even a touch of herbal dank aromatics.
Raspberry flavors throughout, neither sweet nor syrupy, serve as the perfect foil to what is a mouth puckering tartness all around. Sour notes of lemon and lime are balanced by a light peppery spice. Solid malt backbone with notes of candies fruit. Bone dry finish.
Medium to light bodied, crispy mouthfeel and lively carbonation.
One of the most refreshing and well crafted fruited kettle sours I have ever had. Outstanding!
