On tap at Vermont Tap House, Williston, Vermont.
This was poured into a tulip and served through nitro, in which to me was exceptionally awesome!
The appearance was a nice looking layered dark black color leveled under a finger's worth of 'mobile' dark brown that streamed into the darkness of the black as the creamy off white foamy head rose to the top. Nice show! That's some nice looking "beer entertainment there."
The aroma had a wonderful blend of sweet milk chocolate, some vanilla extract, sly woody sweet to semi-spicy floral character which then seemed to mesh with a little bit of dark bread, slightly lager-like yeasty to freely flowing dark chocolate sweet to bitter involvement.
The flavor leaned into the sweetness of the meshing throughout the prior mentioned aromas. Bitterness was quite restrained throughout this department allowing some of the spiciness to enter in a bit more, but to me at least, I liked this. Aftertaste wasn't much, perhaps a little bit of dark and milk chocolate with just a touch of rye, and some whiskey sweetness.
The mouthfeel was about medium bodied with a fair sipping quality about it. Carbonation felt fine. ABV felt on par. Texture hit the spicy harshness as expected but didn't come across as overbearing. Finish was semi-woody spicy with the dark chocolate pushing back some of the milk chocolate.
Overall, as a Baltic Porter, I can see it, but to me since this was aged in 'Whistle Pig Barrels' and aged nicely and not just for the sake of 'aging a beer' as some of these breweries seem to do that these days but they legitimately aged this for the sake of a meaningful and welcoming Winter's night.

Although not as creamy as the nitro-poured non-barrel aged version, this version is definitely as good or better. Appearance is black with ruby tinge around edges of the glass when held up in front of light. 1/2 finger max of tan head, which pretty quickly dissipates. Aromas are not super strong but sweet chocolate and vanilla are present, which are much more up front in the taste. There's no booziness from the whiskey only sweetness that counter balances with the roasty flavor so of the base beer. Barrel notes are pretty faint, just a hint of coconut maybe.
