A dark lager of Franconian origin utilizing local malts and a Bavarian yeast strain first piloted in N. America by Schilling. Characterized by chocolate notes and walnut-like richness. The finish is medium-bodied and velvety, with balanced bittering.

This one pours a golden brown color, with a fluffy tight head, and lots of lacing.
This smells like roasted malt, herbal hops, bready spice, caramel, and nuttiness.
This is exceptional stuff. Schilling absolutely has a lock on European styles, and this is one of the best American-made dunkels that I've ever had. It's got a fantastic toasted malt character, with light roast, some bready spice, a touch of dark fruit, some nutty malt, and a nice spicy and herbal hop character. Everything comes together essentially perfectly.
This is medium bodied, crisp but simultaneously creamy, with a fantastic drinkability.
This might be the best beer that I've ever had from Schilling. It's just about perfect.

A: Pours an opaque yet still clear dark chestnut brown in color with moderate amounts of active visible carbonation rising along the edges of the glass and moderate dark amber + dark golden yellow + cola brown colored highlights. The beer has a three finger tall dense sudsy foamy tan head that slowly reduces to a large patch of thin film covering the entire surface of the beer and a thin ring at the edges of the glass. Moderate amounts of lacing are observed.
S: Moderate aromas of toasted + dark + chocolate + roasted + nutty malts with a minimal amount of sweetness. Light aromas of lager yeast. Slightly heavier than light aromas of earthy hops.
T: Upfront there are slightly stronger than moderate flavors of toasted + dark + chocolate + roasted + nutty (walnut) malts with a minimal amount of sweetness. That is followed by light flavors of lager yeast. Finally there are slightly heavier than light flavors of earthy hops which impart a light amount of bitterness which lingers for a bit leaving a relatively clean finish.
M: Medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Smooth with a relatively clean finish.
O: Easy to drink with a lighter mouthfeel and well hidden alcohol. Enjoyable with a decent amount of complex malt flavors and aromas. Quite flavorful.

It comes across to me as a dry version of a rich brown ale. Only the lightest hint of any roastiness. Very tasty.

L: Clear, cola colored body with a frothy tan head
S: Chocolate, roasted coffee
T: Dark bread, roasted coffee. Malt forward with light hops. Complex for any beer but astounding for 4.2%.
F: Light and smooth. Dry finish.
O: Really excellent beer. One of those that I wish were widely distributed.

An incredibly aromatic and balanced beer. Rich, toasty melanoidin flavors are met with a pronounced nuttiness and modest roasted coffee, dark chocolate and herbal hop flavors. Crisp and dry, but with the perfect kiss of sweetness on the back end to keep all of the wonderful flavors lingering beyond the end of the sip. Insanely quaffable. One of my all time favorites. Schilling are the best lager brewers I have ever enjoyed beer from and this is one of their best offerings

01.25.22 stamped on bottom of can. Poured into a Samuel Adams Perfect Pint.
A: Dark brown with good clarity and 1-finger light beige head with average retention and spotty lacing.
S: Intensely malty aroma of baked bread crust with lighter cocoa and coffee undertones and light herbal noble hops. Very clean.
T: Flavor is also intensely malty with a melanoiden-rich Munich maltiness with more toast, coffee, and chocolate on the aftertaste. Bitterness is low-medium and there is not a lot for hop character, but there’s not really supposed to be. Very clean with no esters and no hints of alcohol.
M: Slightly tacky feel with low-medium body and lowish carbonation which helps reduce the biting nature this intense maltiness can leave.
O: A very enjoyable classic dunkel brown lager with all the right traditional notes coming through. Great job Schilling.

From pint can marked illegibly; part of code is 1495
Pours into my shaker pint glass a clear dark caramel brown with a rich creamy khaki colored head. Good retention and eaves fluffy lace.
Scent is bread crust, caramel and a light hop note. Toffee. A hint of roast coffee. Cola.
Taste is caramel, nuts, toffee, roasted notes and a hint of cola. Bread crust. A subtle smoky note. Leans toward malts but just enough of a spicy hop note to balance.
Mouth is on the lighter side of medium with a fine moderate carbonation.
Another great Schilling lager.
