Means “to shine or glow” in German. Deep golden in color with a white frothy head, this lightly smoked lager expresses aromas of cherrywood and light mesquite with a gently spicy and floral hop character. The body is malty and full, and the finish is dry.

Al excellent smoked beer. Keeps the Helles soft, pillowy lager characteristics and adds just the right amount of smoke!!! My favorite smoked beers are still Alaskan Smoked Porter and the various Schlenkerla beers I have tried, but this one ranks close to them!!! Poured from a 16 oz can into a Budweiser Select pilner glass, this beer features a very slightly hazy deep gold color, a bubbly white head with good retention and thick bands of lacing on the glass. Aroma and taste are malty, very well done smokiness, and a touch of floral hops. Wonderful taste!! Mouthfeel is light, crisp and smoky. Goes down very easy and the smoky quality makes this beer stand out from boring lagers. I had it with a meal and it went down very well

A: slightly murky straw yellow and a 1.5 finger frothy white head

S: straw and grass. Smoke, bacon, and campfire charred wood. Lemongrass and sweet grains

T: sweet grains and campfire smoke upfront. Grains and slight bacon behind that. Faint citrus and lager spice

M: light mouthfeel with strong carbonation

O: really nice stuff! I like the smoke with the earthy lager notes. Good combination

On tap at Moor Room in Buffalo, NY.

This one pours a golden, slightly rusted looking yellow color, with a small head, and lots of lacing.

There’s some light smoke here, with an almost woody sweetness, along with honey, and nice a spicy and floral hop character.

Smoked helles is one of my favorite styles that I rarely ever see. This isn’t going to dethrone Schlenkerla Helles, but that’s wildly unfair, as nothing will unseat that beer, in my eyes, as the greatest lager in the world. This is still good, with a pleasant malty, bready, and slightly honey-ish sweetness, with the mesquite smoke flavor melding with the malty sweetness. There’s a pronounced but judicious hop character – spicy, floral, and not too bitter.

This is light bodied, with a clean and smooth drinkability to it.

Schilling is always a must order brewery for me, especially when it’s smoked pale lager.

4.03/5: ...this came from Schlenkerla, right? It's an elite smoked helles with near-perfect balance and refinement

Sharp gold with an ample bright white head. Definitely looks the part of a German Helles lager. Personally, I'm not a big rauchbier guy, so I appreciated the lightly smoked touch of Glimmen. The smoke is gentle--light mesquite, along with flavors of crackers and floral hopping. Another solid Schilling brew.

Picked up a 16 oz can on 2-1-23 from the Appalachian Vintner for $4.40. No canning date; consumed 12-16-23. Cold stored since purchase.

Beer poured a deeper gold with a very nice white head.

Nose is nice, a hint of Smokey crackers is very prevalent.

Taste is a lighter malt base that uses a nice touch of smoked malts to give a smoked meat and cheese base. Finishes perfectly balanced with adequate hopping.

Mouthfeel is light bodied and refreshing.

Overall what a great tasting beer as the brewing team puts the meaning in the beer is food thought!

I'll tell you right now. If you don't like to taste anything smoked or smokey, this won't be your thing. The closest comparison one of my not so adventurous beer drinking buddies came up with was "shoe shine".

And that's fine. But if you like the style, this is a fantastic specimen, like most Schilling brews.

Rich golden in color, not much/lasting froth/head, a nice smooth smokey kick lager , some floral accents. Medium body, not too rich not too thin.

A solid five pointer for me.

On the recommendation of @papagoose03’s tip, I picked this one up.
Pours crystal clear, with a light waft of smoke on the nose. The campfire and woodburning oven is much more pronounced on the sip, with a crisp and effervescent finish. All around well-done.

It pours a burnished brass color, very clear. Rocky head - pretty big bubbles that didn't persist and pretty much vanishes. No cling.

It's pleasantly smoky on the nose, complimenting the sweet, bready malts. It's almost like a honey smell. The hops are green grassy and floral, fairly assertive but not taking over. The smokiness is woody - like a distant, faint smoke from a campfire.

This beer works for me! Much more sweet malt on the taste initially - bready, a i think a little honey-like flavor. The hops layers in nicely with a hint if bitterness and a grassy floral flavor. The smoke layers over it all, but is not overly assertive. It supplements the helles part of this beer nicely, builds a little but never takes over. A little peppery taste plays along with the residual smokiness.

The feel is medium bodied, very clean, moderate to maybe light carbonation. Mildly bitter mid-taste.

It's smooth, well-crafted, and easy to drink. Even with the smoke, it's very clean, not quite crisp but darn close. It'd be great with seafood, which I see they suggest.

No ingredients listed on the website or can. 5.1% ABV.
$3.69 for a 16oz can at Horrocks.
Pours out to a sparkingly clear medium golden forming a tall white head with very good retention and lacing. Carbonation is moderate, ~2.5 carbs or so. The nose is of crackery pils malt, a hint of sulfur, german yeast character, delicate hops, and a whiff of smoke. Very nice nose. The mouthfeel is clean and crisp with a light body. Very crushable. Taste is a recap of the aroma. Bitterness is quite mild. Although the smoke is very mild here, all the elements sit in perfect harmony. No off flavors or aromas, which is a testament to the brewers since it's 6/23 and this was canned on 12/29/22.

Although I'd like a bit more smoke, this is a beautifully well balanced and expertly crafted smoked helles. This makes me want to move to New Hampshire. Highly recommended.

Look: It pours golden and clear with a white head. Head retention is good.

Smell: There are some grainy sweet notes with light smoke. The smoke is an ashy type smoke as opposed to bacon.

Taste: There are light herbal elements in the background. It has a grainy sweet and lightly smoked flavor with herbal notes.

Feel: It has a medium light body with an aftertaste just on the bitter side.

Overall, it is a lightly smoked helles.
