16oz can poured into a tall, thin lager glass.

A: Deep mahogany brown color with good clarity. Solid four fingers of beige head display superb retention. Clumpy and sicky lacing.

S: A lot of treacle and brown molasses, brown cocoa powder, nutty, vague suggestions of fruit skins, steely and green hop oils.

T: Follows the nose. Deep melanoidin richness brings a syrupy molasses impression. Lots of nutty toasted grain and brown cocoa. Brush of alcohol and a quick vague sense of fruit skins. Green, oily, and herbal hops. Molasses and nutty cocoa finish.

M: Full and rich with a chewy and lightly syrupy texture. Round and creamy. Ample but gentle carbonation.

O: Pretty textbook and on point. The style is nailed as expected.

Appearance - severe was a shade of stained wood with a modest line of white bubbles, clinging to the sides of the glass.

Smell - the moles came through in the nose with dry but sweet grains.

Taste - Soft roasted malts began to taste. There were notes of bitterness that were accompanied by a level of sweetness. The profile was well balanced, not too heavy.

Mouthfeel - With light carbonation, the roasted malts lingered.

Overall - This is a well-done doppelbock.

Look: It pours brown with a tan head. Head retention is medium.

Smell: There are somer toasted aromas with caramel and plum. There are hints of chocolate in the background.

Taste: There are strong toast and caramel flavors with plum and dark fruits. The plum notes are strong in the flavor as the beer warms.

Feel: It has a medium full body that is smooth.

Overall, a solid beer with strong plum elements

4/16/22 - Rereview - Two very different reviews. I have left my ratings numbers as the stood with my original review.

Purchased at Dominion Wine & Beer, spun into a crowler filled on 2/13/22. Poured into a small nonic glass.

I drank this beer the day before Easter, two days before tax day. Rich and filling, maybe too fruity. 4.0

A – Pours a clear amber brown with a huge fluffy three-finger light brown/tan head. Some light lacing and a bit of viscosity on the glass. Lacking head retention (-). 4.25

S – Aromas of brown bread, vinous fruit and yeast. 4.0

T – Brown bread, nutty caramel, finishing with vinous dried fruit. A hint of spiciness in the finish as well, like a pinot noir wine. 4.0

MF – Medium heavy body, creamy, smooth with a dry, slightly medicinal, finish. 3.75

On tap at Dominion wine & Beer. A must try dopplebock. I think it’s fantastic. May top rated dopplebock and I’ve been drinking Celebrator just in the last few days. A heavier mouthfeel that the classic, almost chewy. The taste has a deep roasty and caramel malt but not a stout flavor. Some sweetness but not the first thing that you would ever think of. A deep dark clear amber brown.
