Being well traveled and having good friends in the VT area; I have been spoiled by the greats of the American Microbrew industry (HF, Lawson's, Treehouse, MBC, NEBC, etc). With that being said, I felt the need to actually write a review on this brewery and this beer in particular as it rivals some of the best east coast beer on the market.

I watched this growler get filled today (26 Aug 14), the beer went on tap the 24th. So it hasn't been sitting in a growler for 16 days.

S: What you would expect from Cellarmaker, DANK! You can definitely smell the Southern Passion.

T: Hoppy but not overwhelming, exactly how I like a pale ale. It's a juicy beer with super slight spicy hint and some sweetness to compliment.

M: Fine, light carbonation. Just as a quality, unpasteurized brew should be.

O: See initial comments.

I missed the Southern Dobis that Cellarmaker presented on cask by blending Dobis and Southern Passion for SF Beer Week so I figured I had to try this now that they brewed a full batch of it. Wow. I mean I've really been blown way by Cellarmaker's continuous success with hops but this one really caught me off guard. A pale orange with huge citrusy tropical fruits in the nose this drinks so easily. Not overly bitter, the hops are balanced flawlessly in this one. I might venture to say this is the most impressive APA that Cellarmaker has made so far...that's saying a lot.

Growler thanks to familynight (Reddit). Filled 6/11, shared with rudzud on 6/27

light fizzy bubbly head fades fairly quickly, little lacing, hazy golden honey orange color. Chill haze.

Nose is loaded with citrus and tropical notes, passion fruit, pineapple, papaya, lots of orange, zest and pith, little tangerine and Clementine.

Taste brings more orange and tangerine juice, little orange cream, with little orange rind and grapefruit pith, touch of passion fruit but no real tropical notes otherwise, fruit pectin, little mango actually, papaya, etc. Hint of light malt base, just enough to prop it up. Mild bitterness that increases a bit on the finish, dry finish, light, more orange juice and Clementine, juicy, little floral notes. So smooth and drinkable. The more I drink it, the more dank and resinous it gets.

Mouth is med bod, decent carb for a growler,

Overall it was a good beer, but I felt it should have been better, I think I'm spoiled wth Tree House, Hill Farmstead, Alchemist, Be Hoppy, etc... still pretty nice but not amazing.

This is a very attractive looking pale ale. Nice bright orange color with good carbonation and lacing. Super fruity nose. Lots of citrus, tropical fruits, and just a hint of the malt. The flavors on this one are off the charts. Perfect balance of sweetness, bitterness and citrus. This may very well be one of the best and most interesting pale ales I've tried. Another amazing pale from the guys in SOMA.
