RIP Howard St Cellarmaker - Long Live Howard St Cellarmaker!
Always a great spot that was bumping and had a great selection of beers. Sad they have closed as of December 2022 but I'm excited for their new location to open

Small old bar atmosphere, with a dedicated clientele, filling up the place, 10 minutes after it opened. Quite a number of folks were getting a recently bottled release of a barley wine, with their tap beer orders, to take the bottled barley wine home for later. Very conversational clientele, they were.

Very crowded for $6 pint night but service was great. Nice selection of beers and the ones I drank were great.

Real cool spot; they have a hundred IPA's but most are good and the wild ales are a treat. Bartenders were knowledgeable, welcoming & refreshingly opinionated. Good music too.

Glad I had a chance to stop by...parking is an issue, but San Francisco! Came midweek and music was a bit loud which made everyone scream to talk to each other. Customer service was fantastic! Decent selection...and for some reason, it is really dark in here...

Small bar, wasn’t very busy but we went early on a weekday - I can see this place becoming almost uncomfortably packed because the beer was very good. IPA-heavy, I was not impressed with the selection diversity but again have to give them props on quality.

Always a great tap list here, and I like that it feels like an old-school bar. It's always been super busy when I visit and the service does a good enough job trying to keep up. The beer here is top notch over a bunch of different styles, really can't complain.

The best quality beer in the city IMO. Taproom is pretty small, bar seats about 12-15 with a bunch of big tables. Typically standing room only. They serve growlers and crowlers and will do half pours of most everything. Great beers across the range of pilsners to pale ales to IPAs to stouts. They usually have about 20 beers on tap. No food (but you can bring it in). Servers are efficient and helpful.
I have mostly been there late afternoon, early evening. I do not think the neighborhood is sketchy, certainly nothing approaching the Tenderloin (hang outside Mikkeller for a few minutes and you'll see the difference). They are a couple blocks from City Beer. With the new Pizza restaurant opening, there is now another outlet for their great beer.

This is the best brewery in San Francisco, in my opinion. If their taproom was three times as big, they would still fill it up with customers on any given day. It's located in the part of SOMA that is roughly equivalent to the Tenderloin in terms of neighborhood character, so keep that in mind if you're planning to visit. Also, it's along a major downtown bike route, so consider riding your bike here instead of driving or ubering.

As tourist by himself at night a walk over vs a Uber might have not been the best idea .. but once inside great tap room cool vibe and helpful staff with great selection of beers and size pour (always a plus).. only thing that could but them over the top is a little food or snacks while drinking .

Made my first visit to Cellarmaker on a Friday afternoon in June, 2018. I'd read others' reviews about the sketchiness of the neighborhood, but even so I was surprised at the number of homeless on the streets. I parked across the street and kept my belongings out of sight in the trunk and didn't have any problems, but I'd recommend going with a group.
Decent crowd at 2pm on a Friday. I was able to get one of the few seats at the bar and sample several beers. Strangely, there was only one IPA on tap that day; most of the offerings were pale ales which were a little bit dialed down flavor-wise. I also tried a wild ale that had had a bottle release the previous day. Overall, I was a little bit disappointed in the beers I tried that day. Maybe my expectations were too high? I did meet some cool people and we chatted about beer and San Francisco, and some of the other breweries in town. I would visit again, but I wouldn't go so far out of out of my way.

Hops to the Dome!
Best brewery in the SF bay area! Top tier brews and tight crew running the place.
Smallish bar/taproom with the brewery in the back. Always a particularly great selection of fresh hoppy ales, pretty mellow vibe for how crowded it is during peak hours. To go options are growler fills and once a month hoppy can releases with sporadic bottle releases of sours/stouts. Can/bottle releases are relatively low key and pretty smoothly handled.

on a busy street in san fran. nice space but not a lot of seating. be prepared for way to loud music and some extra cool people here. the beer is top notch so that should mellow out the other crazyness.

Modern bar meets old brick building in drug central San Francisco. Nice jazzy wooden bar and wall behind the bar with exposed old brick walls, modern hipster lights and a few plants. Gets busy quick, even a guy checking ids at the door.
15 of their own beers on tap, many ipas, a couple ba stouts, and a few other styles, nice selection and very good quality. Beer served in the correct glass too. The two bartenders were friendly and knowledgeable. Some weird modern jazz music playing.

Good place! Neighborhood vibe, strangers welcome. Good, varied selection of what they brew. Good music that does not interfere with the conversation. Obviously, fresh beer (good beer). No food, so make this your first or last stop.

Dropped in on a Wednesday night after a Giants game. Not a big tap room, but there's a lot of good stuff packed inside. Beer offerings cover the full spectrum, from light to dark, hoppy to funky, and everything in between. Pretty laid back vibe. Definitely worth a stop.
