A big rush of jammy raspberries up front with oak, funk, tannins, dark roasted malt flavors, a flash of vinegar tartness, sour raspberry notes on the finish. Interesting and delicious.

really quality beer here from the rare barrel, they all are, but as their raspberry stuff goes, i reckon i liked wise guise a little more. this one still finishes quite sweet, and the fruit is lost a little to the sourness, where i felt like it was enhanced by it in the other one. there is a higher degree of funk to this one than just the lacto, more musty wood and a little more richness than the other too, which ended up being almost more like a fruited berliner. the fruit character is high in the nose though, fresh preserves and some nice tang, really great and really forward. it may get muddled a little by all the malt in it, but its still pretty vibrant in the flavor. definite red wine notes to this, with some currant and cherry hints as well with the raspberry, pretty complex as they go. its nice that these beers are so interesting and different, you never know what to expect form them, but its always a delicious treat. if i got to have one of the raspberry ones again, it would be wise guise for sure, but this is pretty darn tasty too.
