750ml bottle served in a little Cantillon glass. If there's a date, I don't see it (other than the 18 on the bottle).

Pours a mostly clear brownish color, slight ruby tint, with a medium sized head and a lot of carbonation. Smell is rich and tart and fruity -- I'd say cherry, except the label says raspberry.

Taste is tart, creamy, moderate bitterness, and clear berry finish. Yes, that's an unusual combination. Yes, it's quite tasty.

Mouthfeel is rich and smooth. Overall, very good beer.

Found this one on Tavour.

First off I this was a handsome looking brew. Poured into my Sempli plint glass, this beer had a gorgeous burnt caramel colored with a just slightly off white head 3 fingers tall that faded over a few minutes. No lacing on the glass but otherwise perfect looking.

Aroma was raspberry forward with a hint of maltiness. Smelled similar to Lindemans Framboise.

Taste was sour, dry and with ample raspberry with a hint of oak. Less sweet than a lambic. Crisp and light on the tongue.

Overall. An amazing brew if you like sour, raspberry or lambic in general, you should get this brew. I WILL look for this again.

Appearance: Pours a black raspberry color with a pink head that left a few shards

Smell: Raspberries in their sweet and tart glory

Taste: Lactic tartness of raspberry flavors dominate the front end, with some sweetness building in the middle; earthy, oaky and slightly funky, after the swallow, but the finish brings back the strong raspberry tones

Mouthfeel: Light to medium body with moderate to high carbonation

Overall: I don't often get to taste beers from The Rare Barrel but I have yet to have one that doesn't impress; I need to find a way to get to the brewery sometime when I am in the bay area - wish they were open more than just a couple of days a week

Pours a murky, dark reddish brown with some fluffy head.

Smell is tart and musty with notes of oak, raspberries, vanilla and lemon.

The taste is where it's at with this beer. Tart and perfectly acidic, with big notes of raspberries, charred oak, vanilla and lemon peel. Very complex with subtle notes of grapes and elderflower.

Mouthfeel is medium, dry and brightly carbonated.

Overall, a great tasting sour that's not really a looker...

Cheers to magictacosinus for the trade
Split with Goblinmunkey7 9/26/15

A: Light red-amber, with some nice ruby and orange tones - hazy, cloudy, with some clarity around the edges - pours with a small, off-white head that fades to a few wisps of a cap, small collar, leaves a few wisps of lacing

S: Raspberry and oak - not actually as intense as I expected, but quite potent - tart, sharp, acidity - acidic sourness, mostly, but some damp, musty lactic sourness - some powdery Brett, with some light barnyard - raspberry juice and flesh - some citrus as well, with lemon and hints of grapefruit - nice amount of wood, lightly chewy

T: Acid for days - nicely sour, with some sharp acidity - layers of sour, lactic notes as well - hints of yogurt - some barnyard and some sharp dryness from the Brett - sharp, sour raspberry flesh - other fruits as well, notably orange, grapefruit, and cherry skin - seriously nice wood, chewy oak - minimal sweetness, finishes mostly dry with some acidity

M: Medium body, puckering acidity, low carbonation, tart finish

O: A wise guy, eh?

This is my first Rare Barrel beer, and it does not disappoint. This has the most straight-up sour that I have encountered in a long time. The raspberry could have been a bit more intense, but otherwise this is undeniably stellar.

Sample at EBF Saturday
Light pink color with a pink tinged white head. Huge tart berry on the nose with lactic and earthy funk underneath. Fantastic sour beer.
