This is sort of like Rare Barrel Breakfast Time on steroids!! If you like apricots, this one is really for you!

As I've said before, Rare Barrel continues to simply rock the beer world. I'm sorry that more people that try it don't give full reviews (myself included) because the beers, almost all of them, are generally outstanding and consistently outstanding, this one especially being among them.

Golden sour with apricots it is exactly what you want it to be. Perfectly balanced; just the right amount of lovely fresh hop tones in the nose with perfect balance in the mouth and lots of fresh, bright, sweet and tart apricots - lots of apricot character - Lots! And when I say lots, I mean there is no question what fruit is in this beer. It's wonderful.

Rare Barrel may be one of only a handful of American breweries doing world class beers. This one, among all of them, is very worth a try.

Bright yellow beer with haze and a fluffy white head. The head fades but stays around the edges. The aroma is like fresh apricot skins with a tiny bit of oak and vanilla. The first sip is brutal. So lip puckering sour but finishes with a really great apricot flavor. This beer shines after the palate adjusts. You can taste all the apricots in the world. The sour accents the fruit. Great beer.

750ml bottle into Ambassadors stemware. 2016 release.

A: Pours a lightly hazy apricot golden with a thin and fizzy white head that quickly disappeared into nothing.
S: The nose is bursting with extremely authentic and fresh smelling apricots. This is probably the strongest smelling apricot scent I’ve experienced on a beer. This smells like I am smelling the fresh fruit; and like I said, it’s not just a hint, the glass is bursting with juicy, semi-sweet, and semi-tart fresh fruit flavors. There is so much apricot that I’m not detecting much else.
T: As expected, the flavor follows the nose with bright and juicy dominating flavors of apricot. The acidity is equally as bright as the fruit, with a tart lemon-like bite in the finish. The aftertaste is juicy and has a buttery oak quality. There is mild earthy spice throughout along with a touch of musty funk.
M: Medium-full body, juicy mouthfeel with a slick and greasy oak texture to it, soft and splashy carbonation. Drinks well, especially closer to room temperature, but the acidity in this is on the higher end of the spectrum.
O: Probably the most apricot flavored sour I’ve had, albeit not the most complex, but probably the most authentic tasting in terms of the real fruit. This is definitely Map of the Sun taken to eleven.

750ml bottle poured into snifter

A- pours a deep golden color with a small foamy white head that reduces to a ring

S- smells of fresh apricots with woody oak undertones, general stone fruit all around, hints of lemon peel & melon

T- light and woody up front, immediately followed by a hit of sour stone fruit; apricot and peach. Some lemon tartness kicks in, followed by just a hint of acidic funk. The finish gives more apricot and wood

M- medium-light body with moderate bubble carbonation leads to a foamy mouthfeel and dry finish

O- very good apricot showcase

Map of the Moon - Rare Barrel
Golden Sour - 5.9% abv
2017 vintage

L - trace head atop a translucent yellow body.

S - apricots, oak, sugar, vanilla, salt.

T - massive apricot punch to the face. Very tart. Oak follows, with a small bit of funk. Hints of mushrooms, wheatgrass, and earth. No bitterness. Low sweetness. No booziness.

F - medium-light body with minimal carb.

O - very refreshing, and has complexities from the oak that are beyond my ability to describe.
