Capella Porter is named after a bright star in the constellation Auriga. Sweet dark malt aromas are followed by a nice medium body. Flavors of chocolate and caramel meld with just a touch of roast. A collection of American hops (Nugget, Chinook, Centennial and Cascade) brighten this lively porter.

I suppose I'm quite impressed the bottle that I picked up was about 4 years old bottled in 2019 yet I still have a lot of bright carbonation and no real skunk flavors. Good level of roast slight nuttiness chocolate is a bit subdued wouldn't say it's delicious but at the same time not bad!

Nose of coffee and milk chocolate. Flavor is roasted coffee and nutty maltiness. Head fades fast with light lacing. Nutty afterflavor persists. What nuts? I don’t know, maybe hazelnut/almond. Roastedness is somewhat overwhelming.

Dense, light beige head of two fingers. The liquid is predictably brown where light faintly passes through the center of the glass. Wider streaks for lace.
Chalky cocoa nose. Semisweet.
The taste is lighter than the smell suggests with semisweet chocolate start. The body is slightly richer than a brown ale with ample carbonation. The finish becomes bitter from the hops making for a dry but moderate length aftertaste.

Taster at CRB taproom. Black, small patchy head. This actually pales next to the CRB porter, much more subdued. Mild sweet and roasty notes , kind of light

Deep mahogany brown body, clear as such; dense, creamy head, sticky and lasting. Pleasantly gentle dark roasted grain nose with a pinch of soft sweetness; cocoa. Subtle and pleasant flavors; lightly roasted malts; quiet sweetness; light charred grain and hop bitterness. Medium-heavy mouthfeel; smooth; silky; mild sweetness overall.
A very nice porter, basic yet overall pleasant.

Thick looking, very dark, murky auburn/chestnut color. A little sweet, roasty, toasty, malt and grain aroma, with caramel, toffee, coffee and wood. Light flavors of off-dry, medium dark roasted malt, with a touch of woodiness and a light dollop of caramel, in a pretty thin body.

On-tap; dark brown body shows red and transparent in the glass, small off khaki head. Nice notes of coffee and roast on the nose, maybe dark caramel…some chocolate arrives on the palate, smooth body with a dry finish and moderate bitterness…flavors are roasted barley and coffee for the most part. A pretty standard fare porter, but it’s enjoyable.

Pours over a finger of semi-pillowy light brown head into my Nonic. Retention is average, maybe a little above, the head steadily fades over a few minutes. Initial lacing looks great. Body is black with some brown hues. Looks very nice so far.
Nose has some caramel and chocolate that play well with a slight breadiness. Light notes of roasted malt that come out with agitation. Leans more towards the dessert side of this style at first, certainly some sweet notes here, bitter hops and malt are not too present, but the enhanced roast does help balance things. This is as advertised, and it’s quite inviting.
Flavors are subtle at first, with caramel being the most prominent flavor, hiding in the background and coming out more over time. Faint chocolate shows up as well. Not too much roast for the majority of the palate, comes out verrrry late as the beer has significantly warmed. Definitely more dessert-like than some porters. Perfectly fine, lacking in potency.
Carbonation is medium-light, has a delicate feel to it, very smooth. Body is medium-light, and really supports the feel that’s going on here. Definitely sticks to the sweeter side of things, but I would not call this a sweet beer. Bitterness is on the lower end. Overall a lovely mouthfeel that helps make up for the overly subtle flavor.
All things considered, the drinkability is one of the best aspects here. This is really smooth, has a good, albeit small flavor, and goes down really easy.
Appearance turned out pretty nice, lacing was quite thick all the way down the glass.
Overall a nice beer. The flavor takes a pretty ridiculous amount of time to develop, but it’s still enjoyable at all phases.

Had on tap. Lighter black body with a plump brown head. Roasted malt giving off dark chocolate, toasted caramel, coffee, and earth is the nose. Taste has hints of toast but loses the coffee definition the nose had, roasted malts win out by the finish. Feel is classic as well, roasted, malty, appropriately lighter and frothier.

Look; It pours very dark brown with a tan head. Head retention is very good.
Smell: There is a fair amount of roast with some chocolate in the initial aromas.
Taste: There is a combination of roast with chocolate. There are some slight burnt elements in the background. There are also some very low cherry notes.
Feel: It has a medium body with a medium carbonation. The finish is more on the bitter side with a slight sweet tinge.
Overall, a good porter that is an everyday drink.

Look: Jet black on the pour with a vigorous light tan head that billows up and slowly settles, leaving great lacing behind
Aroma: Chocolate, roasted barley, earthiness, light nuttiness, and brewing coffee
Taste: Roast and earthy hop notes hit hard at first and quickly joined by a huge wave of baking cocoa and that same coffee-being-brewed note I got in the nose. As those mingle and begin to fade, coffee and earthy notes remain to close it out
Mouthfeel: Full, medium-high carbonation, and a little sharpness and some dryness on the finish
Overall: I’m into this one. A bold take on an American porter in that the earthiness that I assume comes from the hops and slight sharpness on the finish are unique, almost stout-like, and in my opinion, delicious. Good feel and overall depth of chocolate and roast aromas and flavors as well. Pumped to see this is 4pk 16oz. cans too as I will have it in my rotation more often now
