Had on tap at Blaze Bar Harbor:

Appearance: 1/4 inch head, medium carbonation, yellow in color, hazy

Smell: light toasted malt and grass

Taste: banana, hay, and grassy hops

Mouthfeel: sweet start with a bitter middle and finish, medium bodied and medium carbonation

Overall: An average to slightly above average example of the style. This one has more bitterness than most I have had in the style. Not bad, but one that I am not likely to have again.

Sampled at the brewery on tap on April 16, 2016.

The pour is amber-orange with a modest off-white head.

The aroma has a nice banana quality to it with an undercurrent of wheat and toasted malts. A low hop profile.

The body is medium and better.

The taste also brings out a clean toastiness with a notable banana and spice character to it. Mild finish. I would order this again if I get back here.

Pale yellow pour with no head. Heavy banana aroma with esters. Banana abounds in the flavor - by far the most banana-ey beer I’ve ever experienced. It’s pleasant and drinkable, but contrary to the commercial description, doesn’t give any imperial sense. Very smooth and clean finish. No complaints.

Pint on tap at Arcadia National Bar in Portland, Maine while playing some games of Burger Time.

Appearance: Pours a medium yellow/gold with no head to speak of. Slightly hazy.

Aroma: Smells of banana, faint sugar, toast, and sweet malt.

Taste: That banana note is right there up front. Also some faint citrus, toast, and grass. Nice combination of flavors.

Mouthfeel: Slightly less than medium bodied, but appealing in terms of depth. I don't know where they hide the 7 percent ABV because it's nowhere near noticeable.

Overall: Mighty tasty beer. Sweet enough to work as a dessert offering, but would also pair well with a good meal. I'm not super familiar with the style, or the brewery (yet), but I'm eager to try more of both now.

I'm a huge fan of weissbiers and am well acquainted with this style from a great deal of time spent in Bavaria. Appearance is prototypical; esters are balanced banana and clove in aroma and taste--spot on; minimal but detectable alcohol-warming on the finish. In short, an excellent weizenbock. I only wish more could appreciate this.
