Not sure how this beer gets an 88 or 3.9. It is nowhere near that. Pours chalky urine and smells of esters. Tastes like chalky esters. Didn't see that coming. Meh.

Presentation: 12 oz. can with the canning date printed on the bottom. Served in a Willi Becher glass.

Appearance: The loose, foamy, one finger head stays around for a while and leaves behind a thin foam layer that stays until the end a lot of lacing that covers the entire glass. It's a hazy, bright straw color.

Smell: It's a strong, fruity scent of fresh grapefruit, orange and a hint of lemon.

Taste: There's a good balance between the sweet citrus flavors of grapefruit, orange and a hint of malt; with the soft hop bitterness that comes through in the aftertaste.

Mouthfeel: It's light and refreshing but at the same time there's body, substance and a hint of smooth creaminess.

Overall: A very good, fruity, aromatic and flavorful IPA. It's exceptionally well balanced and the texture is great too.

On-tap at The Butcher Shop Beer Garden & Grill, Miami, FL

A: The beer is crystal clear light yellow in color and has no visible carbonation. It poured with a finger high frothy bright white head that left a thin head on the surface and lots of lacing down the sides of the glass.
S: Light to moderate aromas of citrusy and piney hops are present in the nose.
T: The taste follows the smell and has balanced flavors of citrus and pine along with a light to moderate amount of bitterness.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied and crisp on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer has a decent amount of hop flavors but isn't that heavy on the palate. It is not a bad selection when drinking under the hot Florida sun.

Serving type: on-tap

Huge head , lacing sticks well. Smell is not bad, taste, I like it. Smooth feel, overall, very drinkable. I would try this again for sure!
Closer to the bottom I like this a lot. I would definitely have another. Think I will...

A bright gold color with a modest white head. A smidge of lace.
Aroma of citrus, pine, and sweet malt.
Grapefruit taste first, followed by pine. Caramel background.
Nice simple IPA.

n the Shaker pint glass, this one was a light pale straw color with a medium sized white head. Aroma was there but somewhat muted. Classic citrus and pine combo along with faint bready malt. The taste followed. Actually the citrus and piney notes popped in a great way. The malt was dry and there was a neat biscuity note. Medium bodied and off dry on the finish. Overall a very enjoyable beer

Had it at Barnacles on North Captiva Island.....served in bottle, so it couldn’t breathe, and it was a bit on the “room temperature” not the best way to rate it. But it was fine for a lunch beer

Label says best by 1/16/19. I don't their standard, but I don't need them telling me how I should drink my beer. Color is lighter than I would have thought, but the aroma is very hoppy with lots of citrus fruit and grapefruit. The taste follows the aroma fairly well, with a decent malt base. All-in-all a good beer to stumble on, but not much more beyond that. I was very excited simply off the artwork on the bottle, but given my expectations, I was somewhat disappointed. Cheers!

Pours a medium straw color, fairly clear, ample carbonation. Slightly hoppy nose. Very light flavored, hops are faint and unpronounced, ample bitterness. Probably a good ipa for a beginner. Overall - underwhelming and not for me - just a basic, no frills ipa. Also don’t like the “best by” date. Just put the bottled on date the label on it let me decide when it is best by.

Interesting artwork on the bottle. Nice amount of carbonation although the taste is not well balanced. Too much grapefruit presence for a beer that has no actual grapefruit added to it. It's okay but this is really a one & done for me folks. Cheers! C

Pours a straw/faint orangy, looks like “weak Tang”. Head is MIA in no time. Aroma is heavy on the citrus. Taste is strong on the grapefruit note, with hint of pineapple. Giving this a fair trial, rating it after my 4th of 6. This is not for me. If you’re a fan of the description above, have at it, your results may be different.

12oz bottle. Poured out a clear, golden color with a good-sized, tan head of foam. It smelled of pine, roasted malt and mild citrus notes. Very malty tasting with a piney bitterness.

Cloudy straw color with a thin foamy white head; The aroma is full of hops; Interesting flavor, hoppy with a strong hint of something else, citrus perhaps; Smooth, mildly carbonated, leaves a light hops bitterness on the back of the tongue. Not bad, I certainly wouldn't turn it down if offered.

I like Coppertail's labels, not just on this IPA, but on their other beers as well.

Appearance: Pours a hazy copper color with a finger of foam; spotty lacing

Smell: Citrus tones of grapefruit and orange with a hint of caramel underneath

Taste: Caramel and nut flavors emerge first, with grapefruit and orange emerging; moderately bitter, after the swallow

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation

Overall: More of an old school East Coast IPA here; well brewed but not very distinctive

Best-by Date: 3/11/18
Palate Contaminants: other beer

I guess I'm a little late on that best-by date, but that's what I get for not going directly to the brewery.

Looks is medium-dark gold. Not much head.

Smells like peaches and honeydew melons, although the sweetness is dialed back. Slight orange blossoms. Could use some more intensity, overall.

First flavor is grain. That's followed up by a light orange flavor. Moderate bitterness. It's certainly palatable, but it's lacking the range of flavors that the better of the style have.

Feel is under-carbonated. Medium weight. The aftertaste is mostly bitter, but it's not overwhelming.

we had a lot of lackluster and amateur tasting ipa types around florida this week, so it was great to encounter a professionally made, incredibly fresh, and sort of familiar in a good way ipa here from coppertail. bright in the glass, pale golden just slightly orange tinted, mostly clear and very frothy headed, this is a pretty bottle of beer, it is also sporting some of the cooler label art i have seen on a beer in a long time! sick packaging on all their stuff really. a very fresh nose to this, almost certainly dry hopped, but it also immediately obvious that this is brewed in moderation and with balance in mind. i get canned pineapple and tangerine which could mean mosaic, i also get faint berry and lemon, maybe azacca or amarillo there, after a couple of sips i stop trying to figure it out and just enjoy the quality ipa in my glass. a light honey note to the malt base but a drier finish, round and soft fuller medium body, and only balancing bitterness at the end. juicy and delicious but sort of in an old school way. i was impressed with just about all the coppertail beers i had this week, and this ipa was a standout, albeit in a weak local field of ipa types...

Picked this up at a Total Wine in Sarasota. Bottle dated enjoy by 3/11/18. Knew nothing about Coppertail but I always try to support the locals. Sometimes disappointing, sometimes pleasantly surprising.
This fell into the latter category. Initial impression wasn't particularly positive - kind of thin-looking yellowish with not much of a head. Taste is citrus (grapefruit, lemon, orange - a Florida beer for sure). Medium mouthfeel, a little sticky. Carbonation is perfect for the style. Finish is dry and slightly sweet, while maintaining the citrus-y character. All in all, a decent AIPA.

Pours from 12 oz bottle (best by 3/01/18), a straw yellow color, good carbonation initially but recedes to thin uneven foam. Aroma virtually citrus no pine. Taste follows this as no real hop presence and a bit of an off taste( oxidation? Cooked cabbage?). Thin mouthfeel. Overall, I'm not sure given the relatively high ratings this IPA has received from others, that this six pack is representative. Purchased from Publix, I wonder if it got hot/ skunked somehow.....?bad batch? If this is a typical it is definitely not one of the better Florida IPAs.

Brew pours a pale yellow straw, mostly clear, frothy white foam a few fingers deep settles into thin collar.

Nice citrusy aroma, lemon zest and grapefruit rind followed by some pine, grass and a hint of crackers malts.

Flavor is floral, citrus, light grapefruit bitterness and crisp malts.

Moderate carbonation, crisp lighter than medium body. Easy drinking brew.

Nice, mellow, refreshing and balanced.

One of my favorites. Perfectly balanced, crisp and thirst quenching. The apotheosis of a warm weather IPA; robust citrus and floral hops nicely complement an elegant malt body. An excellent beer!

Pours a clear gold with a fair amount of sediment in suspension, two fingers of soapy white head, quickly settles to a thin ring leaving a few blobs of lace down the glass. Smell: grapefruit, lemon zest, pine needles, grass; pils-y backdrop. Taste: grapefruit, pine, white grape, lemon water, somewhat floral/grassy, saltine. Light-plus bodied, creamy feel thins out into a long finish... oily and a bit sticky resolves into a mineral-y dry. Hop profile is pretty straightforward but in addition to being a good warm weather IPA it also pulls off that delicate / stealthily complex combo. Well made, glad to see a wider distribution for Coppertail.

My favorite beer. I am from the area, so a bit biased, yes, but it's simply a perfectly balanced IPA in my opinion. Flavorful, yet not overbearing. Crisp and drinkable in any climate or weather, though certainly best in a warm place like Florida in a season like a summer. An outstanding beer that's always in my fridge or cooler.

Very well balanced IPA, one of the best I have ever had and I have tried numerous. Great job Coppertail. You don't need an 8 to 9 percent abv to have a great drinkable IPA.

Coppertail Free Dive IPA 10ago17 $2.5 em13jun17 Vemar Market
Golden color with a thick big head with great retention.
Hoppy aroma with notes of lemon zest, pineapple, bread, passion fruit and some pine.
Flavor with notes of lots of caramels, pine, white bread, resiny slightly harsh and grass. Dry and bitter aftertaste.
Light bordering medium body with good carbonation.
Average piney and citrusy American IPA. It felt hoppy enough, but still I could feel some sticky sweet feeling.
