I vistied the Courtyard Brewery a little while back while bumming around New Orleans. On my visit, they had 14 beers of various interesting styles; they had a couple IPAs, hefeweizen, and porter, but also an oyster stout, witbier, sour, wheatwine, and dark strong ale. I had the Del Diablo IPA, the porter, and the Baby IPA; unfortunately, none of them really grabbed me. I should visit again and see if the more esoteric styles they make are maybe a little higher quality.

They've got a small taproom that smells like brew day today (woohoo!). There's a little ice cream shop in the taproom as well - separate business sharing the space, it seems. The taproom has benches and couches and a general mid century rec room vibe. The outdoor area is quite big -- a courtyard indeed! -- with lots of small tables and a convivial atmosphere. The guy at the bar was friendly, and was sharp enough to remind me when I left that in New Orleans, you can take a go cup. So civilized!

Vibe is very low key, they have a lot of seating and good music playing. On the particular Saturday morning I came through they had cartoons playing in the corner, specifically Tom and Jerry.

The beer is on point, no doubt at all. While it lends itself quite heavy to the IPA/big beer crowd, there's a whole load of nice options such as lagers, ESBs, and Belgians.

Cool place. Nice selection of beers and bartender was very friendly and knowledgeable about the offerings. I have to say I was expecting more in the beers. I had the ESB, a hibiscus saison and the house ipa. I was underwhelmed.

A good brewery in a cozy setting in the warehouse district that offers a wide variety of beer styles with relaxing outdoor sitting and frequent customers.

Visited on a Sunday, they had a crawfish boil vender parked outside. They also had a small batch ice cream store inside the tap room. The beers were among the best that I had in Nola. They had a nice outdoor seating are as well. I would definitely come back.

Arguably the best IPA location in NOLA, they are crushing the NEIPA game. Wide selection of beers, both their own and visiting taps. Service is great. Check the food truck schedule for food. One downside is that the place is a little small with parking being tough in that area.

Very small, chill vibe. Bartender was very engaging, interested in what we liked, trying to find something that fit. Was hoping they had flights, but understood. Beers were above average from what else we sampled in NOLA. If I lived in the area, this would be my go-to. Really enjoyed this spot.

Small back alley type of place. The chalk board is kind of hard to read due to it being hand written and there is some glare from the lighting. The bartender was helpful though, asking what we typically drink and then recommended come of the house beers for us. We ordered a couple to try but they didn't do flights so we couldn't try as many as we would have liked too. The vibe is kind of unique in a sense that it made me feel like they stole a bunch of tables and chairs from an old elementary school or something. Parking is limited here but managed to get a spot since we got there kind of late. Overall it's not a bad spot, I'd revisit if I was back in the area.

Upon our return in 2021, they have moved to a new location that's just as strewn about and slipshod as the old, as far as the seating areas in the courtyard and smaller interior are concerned, but they've since had additional competition in town come to maturity on the craft beer front, and I can no longer confidently say that Courtyard is the best brewery in town. While still a fun place to chill, there are some other places around town doing good things, which I'll review on here as I'm able. That said, there's no real need to change my rating, as it's still accurate as to their new digs. I just wish they put a little more time and effort into their presentation and atmosphere. The beer's still solid as it ever was.

---

I've been coming to New Orleans for 10 years, and I can't express how exciting it is for a brewer to be hitting his stride right by the B&B we always stay at.

Not that New Orleans has any shortage of watering holes--hell, Avenue Pub is a five minute walk in the other direction from my B&B, and beer isn't even what this town has earned its reputation on--but this is hands down the best brewery in the city.

Courtyard features a wide variety of styles and has 20-30 active tap handles, many of which feature nationwide guest drafts. They may have a laissez-faire attitude as far as which listed beers are actually available to order due to frequent line cleaning during operating hours, but hey, this is New Orleans. In my time there I had multiple IPAs, most of which were hazy NE-style and pretty much nailing it, a couple of Porters and Stouts, two sours, and a bonkers Great Notion collaboration IPA. Not a single one was less than good, and most were very enjoyable.

Service is really all you, aside from the draft pour--walk up to the bar and place your order, and if you're hungry, see if a food vendor has set up shop. If not, they are also BYOF.

The atmosphere might be a bit odd, including an overflow seating area directly next to active barrels and carboys, but they seem to be working on it. The exterior is the primary hang out, and works well enough. If they can flesh it out to give more of an actual courtyard vibe with a fancier cast iron fence and some more greenery and possibly a centerpiece, this would be one helluva trendy hangout. It already seems to have accumulated quite a crowd, so they should be well on their way.

this was the only brewery we had time to visit on our trip to new orleans unfortunately, but it was definitely the one to hit! a cool minimalist space set back off the road, with some relaxed seating out front in what looks like it used to be a loading dock area for whoever occupied the space previously. the taproom is a hodgepodge of assorted random furniture, tables and chairs that look like they dont go together, sort of a trailer park vibe, but comfortable and welcoming. no seats at the bar, just a walk up service counter set up, but quick service, friendly, and we got to meet an owner fellow who could not have been more humble and generous with his time. the selection here was epic, i mean, absurdly good, granted they had some leftover special beers from a recent anniversary party, but they had to have near 20 of their own beers on tap across a ton of styles, but also some really heady guest brews both local and beyond. if you cant find a beer that excites you here, you arent a beer drinker! love the diversity of the menu. their house beers were high quality, a bunch of hazy ipa types all tastes good, they had a vintage wheatwine on that was really nice, and a molasses porter that was excellent as well, all of them were inventive and delicious. i liked the care free vibe in here, the mellow nature of the folks hanging out, and the ridiculous beer selection. i hope to make it back here again some day, this was one of my favorite brewery visits of the year this year, highly recommended!

This is a tiny place with a great array of beers on tap and that's it. No to-goes, no kitchen, and no swag...just beer. And you need to walk up to a counter to get that; there are no bar stools. Service is not what they're all about. They have approximately 20 taps of which less than half are from the brewer.

What they do have is a pleasant beer garden in the middle of a parking lot in front of the serving area (which looks like a leading dock because that's what it was originally).

There's a man cooking soft tortilla with meat and sauces. It was delicious.

As wacky as this description is, I loved the quirkiness. It's out of the way and you'll need Google maps to find it, but it's worth it.

Definitely 'hipster' with quality having an older but with a good bit of character feel too it. Great service and friendly staff. Outdoor seating was also available. The beer selection was VERY good of both house and guest taps. Will be coming here again next time I am in New Orleans.

A diamond in the rough. You won't find it unless you're looking for it. Extremely small inside but some relaxing space outside. The tap list is incredible for a spot this small. Everything I tried from them was delicious. I only wish I had time to try more. Take a detour from the french quarter and check this place out.
