A brew fermented in tequila barrels with a secondary fermentation that includes the use of jalapeños, apricots and agave nectar. On, and it's got Brett and Saccharo yeast strains swimming in there, too! Easily one of the weirdest beers I have ever tried. It was a cloudy, yellow color with no head. The aroma is decidedly hot with the jalapeños. It's also very funky smelling. Not picking up much barrel character but it's already wacky enough. The flavor is even weirder! Spicy jalapeños, lots of tartness and funk and a fruity, apricot flavor. The booze is hidden under all the oddities. I actually really enjoyed it. It was one of the most unique beers I have tried and while I couldn't drink a lot of it, this one will stick in my kind for quite some time. From a growler.

Just starting to get into wild yeast ales, this is advertised as a sour fruit ale. I have to say it has elements of both styles. Poured a nice yellow with lots of carbonation quickly dissipating into minimal foam. Intriguing funky odor. The taste is very different, I loved it. The apricot is muted and the jalepeno balances the sourness nicely. Tequila taste from the barrels is present (barely). High-ish ABV is masked well. Overall, a different beer that I will buy whenever I find it.

So I guess everything Hidden Cove does is fucked up and weird. While I'm generally tired of gimmick beer, and have never been a fan of agave beers, or beers aged in tequila barrels, Hidden Cove did such a good job with their Manhattan that I decided to give this one a try.

Pours limp and yellow, cloudy with no head and minimal carbonation. Smells like sweet malt and jalapenos. Tastes stabby. Like, several conflicting flavors come slashing at you all at once and it takes several sips to figure out what the hell is going on. Jalapeno heat lasts throughout as the beer goes from sour to sweet to fruity.

It's... neat. A mess, and not something that I'll probably ever order again, but aside from the unevenness it's not unpleasant at any point, and I had no problem finishing my pint.

Very interesting, jalapeños hit pretty hard. Brett yeast, apricots, and pepper is a bit much by the end of a glass.

This is billed as a sour fruit ale brewed with apricots and jalapeños and agave nectar with "natural flavors" all aged in tequila barrels. Uses brett and lacto in fermentation. Tastes strangely like horseradish. Overall, eh. Defintely not worth the $16.
