Presentation: 11oz bottle in a small snifter

Poured crisp, straight, with a slight crackle. Wonderfully deep, sweetened nose, lush with pear, apple, soft spices like mild cinnamon, maybe some nutmeg, a very clean scent like mountain air early in the morning. As it blooms it grows sweeter yet with malts rich with brown sugar as well as some classic Belgian yeast & spice. A fat finger of latte hued, snug, soft, tiny bubbles slowly withdrew to a thin blanket covering that laced in thin sheets. Clouded & hazy, its a beautiful warm, barely brassed plum stained color, just striking. Thus far my eyes & nose are happy.

Very light on the tongue, its crisp. semi-dry, with an initial taste that is much softer than the color & nose hinted at. The pear is definitely noticeable but subdued, with a faint, bittersweet hop nip & burnt caramelized malts acting as counterweights. Its nicely balanced & even, but also somewhat one-dimensional and repetitive after the first few sips. Its not bad, but not very complicated. If this beer was a swimming pool it would definitely be on the swallow end.

It grows a little sharper on the palate, more bittersweet, some bread aspects start to creep thru the sweetness & spice, finishing clean, lightly bitter, slightly syrupy and a little filmy.

This was incredibly easy to drink, and while not a high ABV beer I can say I tasted absolutely no traces of alcohol for a beer over 7%. There is a slight tingle in the teeth after the fact but that just sort of happened and was not an aspect one could detect while partaking. Given the Belgian yeast quality, I could see this working spring thru autumn very well, as well as paring well with a Waldorf style salad (think fruit, nuts, cheese) a soft, creamy smooth, mild cheese like a nice Brie, whitefish, etc., as well as most fruited desserts. Its not very complex and rather one dimensional, but still a nice, sweet beer that has its place. Could definitely be a great transitional beer into the Belgian style. I'd certainly drink this again, but would try other items ahead of it if given the chance.

L- When I bought this online in a Bink variety pack I wasn't expecting a beer quite as... erm... limp-wristed as this to arrive. But, live in hope, you never know...
The first surprise if the beer isn't bright pink (like a couple of Belgian cheerry krieks I had last week). It is one of the more vivid orange beers I've ever seen. The head is huuuge and veryquick to form, a 6Cm pillowy undulating pale orange-tan, with one 'ridge' shaped section of foam standing 2cm aboce the rum of the glass.
S- I get honey notes.
T- Well I never! I was fully prepared to loath this beer: But no! I do not taste the additional honey and 'pear syrup' (what's that?!) incorporporated in this beer. What I do get is a big tasting punchy beer with quite prominent dry hopping and for 7.1% an unexpected and frankly pretty astonishing sense of 'ABV% zing' on the palate.
F- Punchy, has a solid medium-rich feel with notable hopping to balance. Feels more like about 9%+ to me than 7.1%
O- Well seems I was prudent (this time) not to pre-judge this one, as it's damned better than I anticipated. Quite why the brewery choose to bottle it in such an effeminate palate is a mystery.
330ml bottle. BB: 19/03/2023. Bought online from BelgiumInABox in Antwerp/BE for home delivery to me in London/UK.

I want to like this beer, I really do. It's a dark saison, very dry, and somewhat spicy. The taste is pears, dark fruit, and something I can't put my finger on. I'm fine with the lack of sweetness, that's a feature not a bug. But there's something lacking in the makeup of this beer, and it winds up seeming unbalanced and a bit harsh. I quit my glass halfway through.

Amber color with beige head. Aroma has toasted malt, burnt sugar, brandy, raisins and some other dried fruits. Taste starts with burnt sugar, toasted malt, yeast notes, some ethanol, generic fermented fruit notes and a light earthy bitterness on the finish. Medium body and carbonation. The aroma is quite interesting but the taste has a lot of competing flavors which don't combine well.

Very murky brown color that shows hints of red when held up to the light. Doesn't look appealing; fortunately the taste is better. There is a very sharp dryness along with honey and candi sugar. Has almost a molasses type texture to it.

This beer is much better than its average ratings and, I'm speculating, this is because raters see "honey and pear syrup" and might be patterned to think "too sweet."

If so, they are mistaken. This could be described as dry.
But, don't listen to me.
Take it from someone who knew so ever much more and always will. MJ's "Great Beers of Belgium" said Bloesum was "delicate, dryish and spritzy."

330 ml bottle into tulip glass, no bottle dating. Pours slightly hazy/cloudy dark reddish brown color with a 1 finger dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a light amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of plum, cherry, pear, apple, caramel, honey, brown sugar, toasted biscuit, nuttiness, peppercorn, light chocolate, herbal, and yeast earthiness. Very nice aroma with good balance and complexity of fruity/spicy yeast, pear/honey, and dark/bready malt notes; with good strength. Taste of plum, cherry, pear, apple, caramel, honey, toasted biscuit, nuttiness, peppercorn, light chocolate, herbal, and yeast earthiness. Moderate amount of earthy yeast spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of plum, pear, apple, honey, toasted biscuit, light chocolate/nuttiness, peppercorn, herbal, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Nice complexity and solid robustness of fruity/spicy yeast, pear/honey, and dark/bready malt flavors; with a great malt/spiciness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a smooth, fairly crisp, and slightly creamy/bready mouthfeel that is nice. Light-moderate dryness after the finish. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warmth lingering after the finish. Overall this was a nice fruited Belgian dark ale. All around good balance and solid robustness of fruity/spicy yeast, pear/honey, and dark/bready malt flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. The aromas were more impressive than the flavors, but this was still a nicely enjoyable offering.
