From the 750 ml. bottle. No specific date but it was released in the Spring of 2016. Sampled on August 7, 2016 so it has had a few months to age.

The pour is basically jet black with a foamy, long-lasting tan head that lingers.

The aroma is delightful. Think of dark sweet malts, dark coffee, cooked oatmeal, spruce tips or pine, dark fruit, and a low to no hop profile. For 12% the booze is buried.

Medium to full body but creamy and smooth all around.

The taste brings out the sweetness along with all of the dark roasted malt, spruce tip, and coffee characters. Like the aroma the 12% alcohol is well integrated into the beer. Warming finish. This cost me $13.99 and I think it was easily worth that.

Poured from a 750 into tulip glasses:

Appearance: pours viscous and syrupy black in color, with a super sudsy mocha-colored head on top. This beer is veeeeeery dark, with no lighter highlights even when swirled. Head lingers for a minute or so before dissolving into a mellow ring of foam.

Aroma: the spruce is pretty powerful here, with lots of bourbon barrel to accompany it. On the whole, it smells pretty woody, with that leathery soy sauce scent creeping in a little bit.

Taste: the first thing hits the palate is the spruce. It's a very unique flavor, which definitely took me a minute to get used to. However, once the beer warmed a little, the flavors softened and created a really nice flavor profile. Caramel, dark chocolate, and the woody char from the barrel and spruce are nicely balanced here.

Feel: very heavy and viscous....definitely a beer to split with someone or two, especially with the intense flavor.

Overall: this is a damn good barrel-aged stout, with tons of unique flavor and smells.

Served on tap at the brewery.
This is a different incarnation from last year's Rye Barrel aged variety.
Served up nearly jet black with very low deep caramel head.
Aromas are tons of coffee, hints of bourbon and a good deal of spruce.
Flavor is incredible. Perfectly balanced layers of spruce and bourbon work so well off of each other. Really nice bitterness in the finish.
Mouthfeel is excellent. Just chewy enough.
Overall, this is easily the best beer I've had from BBC. Seriously excellent craftsmanship here.
