Poured from a 16 oz can into a tulip glass.
L - Color is straw to light gold with just a hint of haze. Off-white head is rocky and moderately thick, but fades quickly.
S - The aroma is mostly conventional for a West Coast IPA, but there is an underlying herbal and earthy note that I assume is from the marigolds. It adds a little interesting note that is not offensive, but I'm also not sure it's appealing.
T - The flavors are also conventional for an IPA, with sharp pine and citrus hops that are lightened by just a hint of malt sweetness. Once again, there is just a hint of earthiness that is unusual, presumably from the marigolds.
F - Medium body with a light, mouth-coating sweetness. Low to medium, creamy carbonation. Strong hops bitterness. Medium alcohol presence.
Overall, this is a good West Coast-style IPA. I don't feel the marigold addition does that much for the beer, although it doesn't hurt it. I am slightly disappointed because I am a huge fan of the interesting flavors Jester King typically conjures with their unusual ingredients. It just doesn't make 1+1=3 in this case, at least for me.
