Any Cal State Fullerton student who buys books from The Little Professor will inevitably see Leadbelly's Barbecue, which rests across the corner from said bookshop. Leadbelly's is squeezed in the middle of a strip mall which whose fa├žade doesn't face towards Placentia Ave, which can make locating the place for first timers a challenge. Look for a laundromat and work your car towards there.

While the outside is no-frills, the interior is cozy. Small, charming, TV's at a few points, a small counter near the grill, a smoker behind the counter. As a place listed for its beer, perhaps it's ironic that I didn't see any beer taps behind that counter. But there is beer served, rest assured. I walked in around 3pm for a late lunch and was treated to a warm welcome and the ability to choose my own seat. Handed to me were two menus, one filled with food and the other with beer.

Now that I had a beer menu, I looked around for a complimentary drink. With 8 taps and almost 30 bottles/cans, Leadbelly's offers a beer selection that is more than fair. Seeing beers from Allagash, Stone, Bootlegger's, Craft (Lake Elsinore), High Water, Hangar 24, and Anchor assures that a beer you'll like is around the corner. The beer is served in standard cheater pint glasses, although drafts are priced at just $5. My Stone IPA was served right and fresh, no qualms about it.

High marks for service, which not only had me feeling at home, but the speed of it too showed that they were on top of things.

Food itself is simple BBQ, salads, and burgers. My tri-tip sandwich came in a generous portion, and so did that side of French fries. I liked what I had; come hungry or you may be taking leftovers with you.

Leadbelly's brings to the area a BBQ joint with a craft beer selection worth reckoning. had this been around circa 2007, I would have had temptations of ditching class, walking over, and indulging into a bite and brew.

Visited on couple occasions so far. Most recent = Feb 2014

Finally a great BBQ place in the northern OC area. I highly recommend the Pork Belly Fries. Perfect to share with group of 4 or 5 as an appetizer.

They only carry the typical craft beer lineup on tap (i.e. Stone IPA, Racer 5, etc) and they only have 4 taps I believe, but this place has some great potential.

Good barbecue place with an even better craft beer selection. They carry some of the standards like Stone IPA, Oaked Bastard, and Racer 5. However, they have some smaller, harder to find beers like Fallen Angle Blonde and Raven Stout from Craft Brewing in Lake Elsinore and Prohibition Ale from Speakeasy in San Francisco.
