This pours a clear, dark amber color with a bubbly, off-white head with nice yeast pockets rising to the top. The aroma is a little yeasty with banana but not as strong as Belgian-style brews. The flavor is smooth and bold with grains and malt. Pretty decent stuff that leaves a linger malty after taste.

I've had a few bottles of this with very different results. First bottle was a sticky, sweet mess- tasted oxidized and lifeless, but forced a sharp cheddar type flavor across my palate.

Second bottle was damn near divine. Bready, some light caramel. I usually prefer maibocks to be a tad darker in color, but this seems pretty true to style.

A thin, faded gold pour with a substantial, fluffy white head. Well carbonated. Head vanishes quickly. A bit of lacing.

In the nose it's a surprising flash of fruity, white wine aroma, though the cereal grain then takes over. A bit of sweetness, too.

The fruitiness is a big surprise. It's like a bready sauvignon blanc. A ghostly hop presence keeps it real. (Or am I confusing hops for the fruit on the front end?).

Very smooth, medium body.

I'm not getting the "bock," here. Still, a decent session beer.

(Actually, as it warms, the fruit disappears, and the maibock flavor establishes itself as traditionally understood. Warmer, it's actually iconic. Well-done, Wisconsin Brewing!)

Pours a clear, copper color. 1/4 inch head of a white color. Good retention and good lacing. Smells of strong yeast, sweet malt, pale malt, hops, wheat, slight alcohol, hint of biscuit, and cream. Fits the style of Maibock / Helles Bock. Mouth feel is sharp and crisp, with an average carbonation level. Tastes of sweet malt, hint of earthy malt, biscuit, hops, wheat, pale malt, and a hint of cream. Overall, good appearance, decent aroma, decent body, and decent blend.

Appearance: Light golden yellow color with some accents of orange. Dense head of about a finger on the pour. Bright active carbonation as to be expected from the style.

Smell: Creamy buttery yeast and mossy herbal hops on the front. That yeast front reminds me a ton of their #001 Amber Lager. Vegetal notes with some grassy hop additions are unique. Doesn't have the cleanliness I normally expect from a Maibock but this is nice.

Taste: Yeasty, buttery front with some pleasant herbal hop additions hits on the nose. There is a creamy almost lactose sweetness that is really tough to put in exact terms, but it adds an incredible drinkability. The finish is mossy hops, potent yeast, and malt creaminess.

Mouthfeel: As already stated, that creamy sweetness picked up throughout adds an incredible drinkability. Carbonation fits well.

Overall: Another great Lager from Wisconsin Brewing Co. Lets see this beer pop up in those 12pk cans very soon. Certainly would drink again.

Pours a nice, soapy head that fizzles down and laces lightly. A sweet, floral aroma. Dark gold color. Starts with a floral hop brightness and malt sweetness, flashes into booziness, then back to a medium floral hop bitterness. A wave of biscuit overwhelms the sweet booziness, and floral hops and malt sweetness into the finish.

This isn't too shabby. Nice balance of assertive hoppiness, sweet maltiness, and booziness.

A new, yet familiar style from Kirby Nelson and his new brew-house at Wisconsin Brewing.

Web site says production on this beer is "limited," but I'm hoping it becomes a regular seasonal.

I can't recall if this is what Capital's Maibock tasted like when I first tried it many years ago, but that doesn't matter because I now have the Big Sweet Life as a choice.

A -- Clear, deep gold with a dense off-white head that holds up well.

S -- Yeasty and bready with some mild spicy hops and peppery alcohol back.

T -- Same breadiness up front with a nice sweetness to it that fades to a dry -- almost phenolic, but not quite, alcohol pepperiness and a dry finish.

M -- Mouthfeel is smooth to crisp with a chewy, medium body.

O -- A very nice rendition of the style from the Midwest's Lager master.
