I've had a few bottles of this with very different results. First bottle was a sticky, sweet mess- tasted oxidized and lifeless, but forced a sharp cheddar type flavor across my palate.
Second bottle was damn near divine. Bready, some light caramel. I usually prefer maibocks to be a tad darker in color, but this seems pretty true to style.

I thought this would be a good selection for my review #2000 as I am having a harder and harder time finding quality lagers these days from local breweries.
New Glarus has some....Capital used to but not anymore. Schells does them well. A few others I'm sure I am forgetting to mention but it is nice to see the former brewmaster of Capital Brewing harkening back to his hey day of delivering some of the best lagers made in the U.S with this effort from Wisconsin Brewing. I would like to see more along these lines rather than session IPA's (good beer...no knock) but maybe you can't make it doing it that way these days.
As for this beer.
-Honeyed, bready maltiness....light hop impression which is great as I have too many maibocks where the hops overwhelm the malts and it should not be that way in my opinion...
Drinks like a maibock rather than a double....slightly sticky but not overwhelming....
Would love to see more beers along these lines in the future from all but Kirby probably does it better than most anyhow so it is a treat to see him turned loose to do this style again.
