I had my first beer from their Northside location and felt they did a decent job for a newer brewery. A couple of years ago they moved to a bigger location just off of downtown and added a larger selection. I like the variety of IPAs and they seem to be doing very well on the NE style. My favorite is Lake King, but would recommend a flight for first timers; experience the subtle differences.

Visited with my wife on a recent trip to Holland, MI and Milwaukee, WI.

Tried the following:
Big Lake Stoner IPA (draft)
Big Lake Lake King (draft)

Both beers were stellar examples of their respective styles. Tap selection offered something for everyone. The hummus and toast and pretzel and cheese appetizers were tasty. Nice low-key atmosphere in the taproom, a bit lounge-like, with some games on at the bar. Service was competent as the bartender was quick to grab our drinks and he did a solid job of describing the beers. Our overall experience was good, and we would probably come back.

While New Holland gets all the press, we think Big Lake is a worthy #2 in Holland.

We love their new location, just off the main drag in downtown Holland. It's a big, airy, warehouse type space with a large patio in the back that is well laid out. My wife & I came here on a quiet Friday afternoon. We started off at the bar but eventually moved outside (our fault for sitting under a vent).

The Darkstar Stout was our favorite but all the beers we tried were excellent. We loved the kombucha too. It was a great nonalcoholic alternative when we needed a break.

Service, both at the bar and outside, was good. The sandwiches we ordered were tasty and just the right size. Prices seemed reasonable for the area.

This is hands down my favorite brewery. I used to live down the street, but moved away before I realized what a treasure I had just a block away. Keep up the great work guys.

Don’t let the location fool you. While this may be somewhat lacking in character or ambience it more than makes up for that with the beers. I fell in love with the canned offerings I came across during a recent visit to Michigan and found their draft offerings to be just as—if not more—enjoyable. Midwestern charm, Midwestern prices, and a Midwestern take on West Coast IPAs.

On a 1-day, 4-stops pub crawl, this was our last stop. This pub is located in a strip mall, and the place was busy on a Wednesday evening, possibly because an old car show was in progress just outside the front door. A long, L-shaped bar greets you as you enter, and there are plenty of tables for seating. There is no food available beyond packaged chips, etc. but the pub is food friendly.

We sat at the bar and ordered two 6-glass flights so that we could try all 11 of the beers on tap, and we added one of the three ciders that were also available. (Two wines were also listed on the menu board.) We had heard good things about this brewery's beers, but some of it must have been a bit of hype. Don't take me wrong, we didn't have a bad beer, but all of the beers scored only between a 3.0 and a 3.75 on our scale of 1-5. This is still a new brewery, and I see a lot of potential here because the beer style selection was very good (one sour included), but some tweaking still needs to be done to take them up to the next level.

IF you go to only one brewery when you are in Holland, MI this is the one to go to. The atmosphere is very mediocre with it being in a strip mall but don't be fooled by the aesthetics. This place makes very good beer and at a very good price. A lot of locals drink here over the other breweries in town. Had a flight and a pint of beer for under $16 and everything was fitting to the style and a few of the beers were excellent. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable about the beers on tap. I don't believe they have food but they have solid beer and that is what matters.

The reason I stopped here was to try out the pad thai at the Thai Palace next door. I thought it would be a good place to have a beer with my lunch. The pad thai was great and the beer was even better. They had a good selection of beers on tap with most styles represented. They also had wine, mead and hard cider available which was nice to find. My wife dislikes beer but the wine might entice her to go there with me in the future.

The décor is nothing special, just some table and a nice bar. Only one TV but it had the Tigers game on so that was OK. They allow food to be brought which is awesome. There are several nice restaurants nearby beside the Thai Palace. The bartender was cute, friendly and knowledgable about the beer offerings.

I will be going back in the future. A Russ’ twin burger should go nicely with an amber ale.

Such a small and unassuming place, virtually no signage, and you wouldn't know this place was really there unless you did your homework. It's located in the middle of a strip mall and you definitely don't feel like you're walking into a brewery. But I'll tell you that once you find it, you won't want to leave!

This is by far the best value you're going to get for some amazing beer. They offer a variety of barrel aged beers that did not disappoint, and most of the ba stuff could be had side by side with the base version. While they didn't have a kitchen, it was okay to order in from any of the surrounding establishments.

There wasn't a lot of decor and the room was pretty simple. The bar area would be my place of choice to sit and relax while enjoying a flight of all their offerings.
