12oz can, sample from the brewery.

Yes, it is black ... great suds on top. Soft roasted malt nose and flavor, very malty with a subtle bready yeasty tone. Modest hopping, very easy drinking. Very much a black lager. This is the lagers answer to the drinkable stout or easy drinking porter.

Have had this several times when I have been visiting in north Louisiana. I cannot wait for this beer to make it over to Texas. It is a great example of a Schwarzbier. I think I like this favor and complexity of this better than the Shiner Black. As mentioned in a previous review if you like stouts and porters, then this is your all night beer

This beer is a great example of the schwarzbier style. It is not a session beer, but it is lighter in body than the taste profile's depth/complexity would suggest. It is an excellent alternative to a stout or porter, particularly during the summer.

Got in a BIF from jdell15. 12 ounce can into lager glass, canned on 6/14/2017. Pours slightly hazy dark reddish brown color with a 1 finger fairly dense and fluffy light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of big dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, and toasted dark/brown bread; with light notes of nuttiness, smoke, char, herbal, grass, pepper, and roast/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of roast/bready malt and light earthy hop notes; with great strength. Taste of big dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, and toasted dark/brown bread; with light notes of nuttiness, smoke, char, herbal, grass, pepper, and roast/toasted earthiness. Light herbal/grassy/spicy hop and roast/char bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toasted dark/brown bread, nuttiness, smoke, herbal, grass, pepper, and roast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of roast/bready malt and light earthy hop flavors; with a great roast/hop bitter/sweet balance, and zero acrid/astringent flavors after the finish. Lightly increasing dryness from hop/roast bitterness. Perfectly clean on lager flavors, with zero yeast notes present. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/bready/grainy, and lightly sticky/chalky balanced mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 5.5%. Overall this is an awesome schwarzbier! All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of roast/bready malt and light earthy hop flavors; very smooth and easy to drink with the mellowly bitter/drying finish. Clean and rich Munich/roast malt flavors, with balancing noble hops. A really enjoyable offering, and spot on style example.

Pours a nice dark black color with 1/4 inch head. Incredibly smooth, easy drinking beer. Nice combination of milk chocolate, sugar, and light roasted malt. This is one I could drink all night.

Pours dark brown, near black. It reminds me more of a dark lager for the slightly lighter body, but there's still the cocoa, coffee, toffee, and light roast of a schwarzbier. It needs to warm up for the flavors to come out, but it's highly drinkable cold or just cool.

Pours an effervescent ruby tinged chestnut with 3+ fingers of tan head. Nice lacing & head retention

S: Brown bread & a little carob

T: Follows the nose, a little herbal & wood hops as well, a little anise as well. Cocoa & brown bread as this warms, a little more herbal hops as well, dryness too. Finishes dry with brown bread woody hops & carob

MF: Medium body, modest carbonation, really complements the beer style

Drinks pretty darn easy, a very nice take on the style, probably buying this again soon

Poured from a 12 oz. can. Has a black color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is mild, some roasted malts. Taste is light and mild, roasted malts, a hint of coffee. Feels light in the mouth and overall, while not a bad beer, it's not exactly going to overwhelm you with flavor, or otherwise.

It pours a dark brown almost black with a tannish head that leaves a nice ring around the glass as I drank it. Smell is faint but a little coffee to it. The taste is of roasted malts, very smooth to drink. (Almost more like a porter.) The feel is light but as I said very smooth to drink. Overall I was very happy with this one, the first try from this brewery but I know I will try some of there other offerings.
