I was really excited to try this rotating release from Great Raft sine I missed it the first time. Tons of coffee on the nose and on the palate. Great body and feel as well. But I was most impressed with the level of coffee and how well it balanced with the sweetness.

Impressively build coffee beer. The roasted malts slip right into the cold brewed coffee for a mix of dark toast and cocoa. It's medium bodied, like a thick cup of coffee and the balance is ideal, the brewers don't let the java take over.

Pours an effervescent chestnut with 2 fingers of tan head. Above average head retention & lacing

S: Coffee, hazelnuts, nose stays strong

T: Follows the nose, dryness, a little toffee as well up front. More coffee, dryness & a little mocha sweetness as this warms. Finishes with a slight astringency, coffee grinds & a little nutty sweetness

MF: Medium body, resrained carbonation. Body thins out as this warms

Drinks decent, started strong & faded a bit

A: poured into a nonic pint glass to a deep brown that refuses to allow light through and dopped by a one finger dense light tan head that retains well and leaves decent lacing
S: smells of roasted coffee and malts with some piney hop. coffee has a little earthyness to it along with some chocolate
T: taste is pretty coffee forward with some hop bitterness slight roasted malt but it's mostly coffee, slight chocolate and earthy flavors as well. swallow is some caramel sweetness and some piney hop with a little citrus with some lingering chocolate
M: fairly light on the palate but it doesn't get watery. carbonation is a little prickly and the finish is somewhat drying
O: Good nose and flavors and solid complexity. Easy drinking as well. It's approachable as well.

Picked this bottle up at the brewery. Dark mahogany pour with a two finger creamy beige head with great retention and super lacing. Huge fresh brewed coffee really dominates the nose with hints of toffee, caramel, brown sugar, and subtle chocolate. The taste is dominated by the coffee as well. It's probably one of the strongest coffee flavors I've ever tasted in a beer. As it warms, some nice chocolate notes emerge as well as toffee, brown sugar, molasses, tobacco, and leather. The mouthfeel is medium bodied and creamy with a bitter, dry finish. Overall, I love brown ales and when you throw in coffee, it's just that much better. This was my first Great Raft beer and I'm very impressed. Love the way they've captured the coffee in this beer. Bold and flavorful but not overwhelming. And this is even better on tap, although I thought it was served way too cold both times I visited the tasting room. Highly recommended!

The first pour resulted in very little head. I forced the second pour. The head resembled a dark, milky, root beer float. Light does not pass through this beer except for a slight eclipsing glimmer around the edge of the meniscus. Alcohol content was evident in smell but not taste. This is a slightly heavy beer but not overbearing. It finishes nicely and dances on the pallet only for a few seconds after swallowing. The second pint pairs quite well with a muffaletta and a little "Led Zeppelin III" or "Physical Graffiti". Don't get too loud with it, though.
