I've been to the Fitchburg location far more than any other.

This feels a bit more suburban than downtown location, lacking some of the youth and energy, but still a great place to enjoy some really good beer and watch a game.

As the good-to-great beers served at all GD locations. However, I find the service and food quality consistently good (at least the last couple years), where as downtown can be more hit and miss.

Well done pub grub. If anything, the menu is too expansive and they should focus on doing fewer things well. If you don't have a heart condition, try the brat burger.

Unfortunately my phone's GPS navigated me to the nearest Great Dane, which was this one outside of Madison, instead of the downtown location. So I can't compare it to the original, but I loved this place.

I've been to many brewpubs, and this is one of my favorites. The place is nice, the beer is above average, and the food is outstanding.

The building is unimpressive from the outside, but huge and inviting on the inside. The beer ranges the entire spectrum, and each and every one are good, if not bordering on great. Cask conditioned ales are offered, which is a rarity and much appreciated. My favorite of the night was a Scotch Ale that had such a distinctive caramel flavor, it might have been my favorite Scotch of all-time.

The food was outstanding. I absolutely love the mashed garlic plantains, and the cuban sandwich with both ham and pulled pork really hit the spot. The one disappointment came in the form of carrot cake, which is usually one of my favorite desserts, but utterly failed to impress me.

But overall, a very, very good brewpub. Kudos to Madison!

Hard to rate the Fitchburg Dane with out comparing it to the down town original.

It has more of the feel of a suburban restraunt than a pub. High ceilings for an open feel. A bar and dinning on lower level. An upper bar with a few games. I must go at the wrong time, usually not enough bar seating.

Good, friendly service. Easy going, good to talk to bartenders.

Food is very good. Love the appetizers, chicken skewers, seared tuna, nachos.

The beer is the good quality you expect from a dane. Just not always as many choices as I'd like. They have their regular brews at all times, but not as many special brews.

While might not live up to the original, since it is on the way home, a great place to stop for a brew at the end of the day.

This brewpub is the suburban sister of the Great Dane downtown. If you are from outside the Madison area, don't bother with this place unless it is close to where you are staying and go to the downtown Dane. However, if you are from the area...or visit frequently you must check this place out!

You can find this brewpub in a strip mall area off of Fish Hatchery Drive. It is a stereo typical suburban brewpub in the inside with some nice touches. It has the dark woods and brass rails, along with the 3 or 4 flat screen TV's for the sports fans. However, what makes it nice is the 4 different areas: 1. Normal seating (families) 2. Banquet area (for large groups) 3. Bar downstairs (main area with TV's) 4. Upstairs bar with pool, games, and another bar

The vibe in the place is laid back. There is a nice mix of people as well. You can find families, jocks, beer snobs (me), and even local celebrities (we talked to News Anchor Susan Simon for 10 minutes while we were there).

With that said, the REAL reason you going to this brewpub is the beer. Oh sure, the food is good...I reccomend the Dane burger! However, the beer is the real deal! Many of the regular beers on tap are okay, with the Crop Circle Wheat being the weakest. The Dane really excels with the seasonal beers. During my visit I must have had 3 IPA's that were not the normal IPA's they have on the year round tap. They were wonderfully full of hops, but not overdone. I know from previous trips to this location they also make a killer Barley wine and Oktoberfest!

Again, the beer and food are outstanding and you need to check this place out if you live in the Madison area. If not, skip this place and head to the downtown location as they have the same beer (plus a couple) and food, but with a better set up and less of the uptight corwd.

it's impossible to rate the dane fitchburg without doing so in relation to the dowtown dane. both are great, but there are some differences. one is that there are always fewer beers on tap in fitchburg. this is kind of disappointing, but there are still always like 8 beers on tap. most of them delicious. the nice thing about the fitchburg dane is the service is much better and it is much less crowded. if i remember correctly the price for a pitcher is also one dollar cheaper in fitchburg compared to downtown, which is a nice bonus. all in all, the fitchburg location is very solid, but i really only go there if i'm going to chill for just a beer or two or if i'm going to eat. if i'm going to be doing some serious session drinking, it is downtown all the way. and if i were coming in from out of town and had limited time in madison to drink, it is downtown all the way, because of the dane and all else that is downtown. i think the beginning of this summer i will try to hit up the dane more often if i get a light for my bike, and try my hand thru the rather hilly cap city trail home after a few pints at the dane.

Very similar to the Great Dane downtown only more suburban and family oriented. This is the Dane to take the kids to and I'm not just saying that because I hate annoying little brats screaming in my ear when I go to the Dane downtown.

Fitchburg's Dane is better in a few ways:

1. The two levels and high ceilings give it a very nice open air feeling.

2. Shuffle Puck, with plenty o' saw dust.

3. Better service.

It's worse in few ways:

1. The selection is not as good.

2. There are more suburban jerks hanging around the pool tables cocking off.

3. It's in Fitchburg.

Great place to go when youÂ’re in the mood for a cruise out of town or a change of venue but given the choice I would stick with the downtown Dane 9/10 times.

This suburban location is nothing like the downtown Madison location in atmosphere. It is located in a strip mall. The interior is huge, with 2 levels of seating, including an outdoor deck. The interior is faux-sportsbar, with TV's scattered around. The interior is strictly modern, with tan plaster walls covered by a few posters and the aforementioned TV's. There is a U-shaped bar, where I sat. Against one wall, there are two levels of fermenters.

That said,I found one huge advantage-an abundance of free parking(on a weekend when the University of Wisconsin played a home game). Additionally, the selection of beers is enormous(ten cold beers and two on cask). The quality of said beers is excellent. Although I will not rate the food, I had one appetizer which was terrific. The service is fine. The bartender was knowledgeable about the beers. All in all, if you can't get to the downtown Madison location, you will not suffer by trying the suburban location of Great Dane.
