poured from a 16 oz can excessive carbonation a sweet chocolate aroma with metallic taste as beer warms german chocolate flavors are more pronounced and flavors become more present including german chocolate dough, icing and heavy coconut after taste. at medium temperature the beer is as advertised but for my preference german chocolate and beer don't match. but if you enjoy a liquid german chocolate cake once the metal clears you should like this beer.

A pint can was easily emptied into a clear glass liter mug. The head created was reasonably sized, biege and rather enduring. The brew is just a shade more toward brown than black coffee, more like a milk chocolate candy bar. It is opaque. There's plenty to smell, with pecan and coconut pronounced and chocolate malt not far behind. Although its body is not quite as rich as the desert it mimics, the taste is fairly close. The coconut is obvious to the taste buds, but the pecan and chocolate are there, too. This may seem like it's a sweet desert beer, but it's better than that. Perhaps sweeter than a typical stout, it isn't overly sweet for the flavors it carries. As a stout in general, it's on the sweet side. For an Imperial Stout, the sweetness is more in line. Plus, the finish actually bitters with just a little alcohol bite. If considered a desert stout, the sweetness isn't close to being a problem. This is one of those desert stouts that if you like the flavoring, you'll like the brew. If you don't like coconut mixed into your Stout, avoid this. Yet, none of the flavors are excessive, it's all tasteful and balanced. Overall, the body is a little too thin to consider this a great desert stout. Ironically, if it's considered a desert stout, it may be considered a little short in its sweetness. The ABV is somewhat noticeable because the body is on the thin side. But, it does help with a finishing bite.

On tap in a standard pint glass.

Dark chocolate cake color, black with a foamy tan cap that leaves lots of sticky lacing.

The aromas and flavors are alike; chocolate and barley, baked and roasted. Sweet chocolate icing.

The feel is smooth and sweet medium body.

It works smoothly.

Poured from a 16 oz can into a Belgian style snifter.

Dark brown body with a head of dark tan tightly packed bubbles.

Aromas of chocolate and coconut.

Taste is tons of chewy chocolate and coconut, with a hint of pecan. Really tasty.

Mouthfeel is a little disappointing. Really thin and light would like a bit more fullness.

Overall a really tasty beer that I can only fault for its thinness in the body. Still, I would have it again without any qualms.

Was expecting more of a dessert beer and got something more malty than sweet...

...and I liked it. Great looking dark stout with a head that was both frothy and creamy. The smell was light on the distinctive German chocolate cake, but still there, undoubtedly. Mouthfeel was reminiscent of being water, but still have a smooth creaminess that I overlooked this most egregious of problems with the feel. I enjoyed the taste, but all of the flavors were very light - from the coconut, to the cake take, all of it very light but still lending to an overall more than good experience.

Pours a very dark brown with a half inch tan head that dissipated quickly and left minimal lacing. Smells of dark chocolate, coconut, a hint of vanilla and roasted malts. Tastes of coconut, pecans, dark chocolate, roasted malts, vanilla and a metallic aftertaste. Light bodied for a stout, minimal carbonation, dry and metallic finish, thin mouth feel for a stout.
