Picked up a sixer of this as I'm a sucker for German Pilsners. I can't pass em up, I may need counseling to get over this but I refuse to go. Green bottle sucks but it showed no signs of being light struck. Poured into a pils glass it forms a loose fizzy head that falls to outer ring shell and some ring lace. Little to no carbonation visible in a yellow bodied brew.

Has a nice aroma of hops and grain and pale malt. Comes across like it smells to a T. The only thing that comes out a bit stronger in the taste is the Grain bill. Hops in this are delightfull and strong enough to wax the sweet malts. This finishes Crisp, Clean and a drying hop finish.

One of the better German Pils I've had recently. Unfortunately the place I can find this I've noticed it hanging around on the shelves longer than I'd like. Please get rid of green bottles for the good of mankind. This is a damn fine brew and would love to see it on tap somewhere.

Edit: had a side by side with Victory prima pils and that brought me back to reality. This has a nice hop profile but its lacking in the body and depth area. Like a macro on hops! Good stuff.

a strong pils that doesnt get the credit it deserves. good appearance, the smell is ok, alles ist gut. the taste is very good with a crisp flavor and the strong hops add the final taste. a very good beer that should be given a chance to rival radeberger and pils. urq

Poured a medium straw hue with a two finger foamy white head. There was good retention and lacing.

The smell featured a nice light malt and a very good spicy saaz hop.

The taste consisted of a soft grain bill and a very nice spicy hop. Very good biscuity aftertaste.

The mouthfeel was crisp and clean.

Overall a very easy drinking pils. One of my favorite German Pils. I was happy to find this on tap at the Oak Chalet in Bellmore.

The same old decent attempt at the same old Classic Beer. Straw...carbonated...grainy sweet...bready...saaz hop flavor...bla, bla, bla. Basically it is unique from other Pils in it's drying effect in the finish. It finishes crisp, clean, refreshing, without the abruptness. Otherwise, it's typical of German Pils. Good, but not a standout.

Appearance- Pours a very clear, light golden yellow with a thin head and lpractically no lacing

Aroma- Some malt sweetness with bittering hops in the background. Maybe just the barest hint of corn or green grass. It's so faint, I can't figure out which.

Taste- Mostly bittering hops dominate the flavor with just a hint of malt sweetness in the background. A bit of skunkiness from being light struck. When will these people ever learn, green beer bottles are EVIL!!!

Mouthfeel- Light/medium bodied for a Pils with just the right level of carbonation. carbonation

Drinkability- Pretty drinkable. Despite the light-struckness, it's pretty good.

A kind gift from my German flatmate who brought this beer from hometown Stuttgart. BB 01/05/07, served chilled in a weizen glass.

A: dark yellow in colour, coming with a lasting pillowy and rocky white foamy head, on top of lively fizziness full of medium and small sized bubbles.
S: sour-sweet lemony fruitiness and mildly corn-ish malts upfront, while a flow of sugary sweetness lags behind--simple and clean.
T: dryish bitter hops dominate from the very beginning, followed by a very mild sour yeastiness and light lager malts... the finish shows more hop dryness, and yet a faint trace of plastics is also there in addition to the lingering bitterness.
M&D: softly fizzy, medium-bodied, clean esp. at the tail... this is a very approachable German pilsner with good depth of soothing hop bitterness.

Poured into a pint glass. Pale yellow with lots of bubbles and a big pillowy white head that subsided to some lacing throughout the glass. Bubbles continued entire time. Smelled some grain/grassy hints, some skunk. Tasted some hops and grassy with a mild bitter skunkiness, but not enough to ruin the beer. Crisp with some carbonation. Refreshing. Not a great beer, but easy to drink and would be enjoyable on the hot nights in Florida.

Eye: Poor head formation, retention, and lacing. If I had to describe the head I would say that it is a thin ratty dry rotted blanket that tries to cover the beer. Lacing is poor, spotty and thin. Color is almost clear...tints of yellow give it its color. Very fizzy looking.

Nose: Smells a bit skunky, but perhaps thats just the hop character, sometimes I know it is supposed to have a smell akin to that of skunk. It is nothing like the skunk aroma of a Corona though. Spicy hops supported by sweet malt aromas. Not much more to say.

Tongue: Hops come through quite nicely here. Bitter and spicy off the bat. Malt sweetness is behind it to give balance. Bitterness is a bit coarse, and overall flavor is a bit watery. Bitterness and hop flavor just doesn't seem to be incorporated that well. Sure its there, but in my opinion its much too coarse...it gives it a much less smooth feel.

Mouthfeel and Drinkability: Light on the palate with a light body. Carbonation is about what was expected and is delicate. Finish is on the dry side, leaving the mouth with hop bitterness and flavor...sapping all perceived moisture from the mouth. This is an okay beer, nothing I'd readily run back to. In-fact, I'm glad I didn't buy this one, it was given to me...(that is really a half truth). Anyway, after tasting this beer, its not one that I'd like to pick up again. There are better out there. Not only German pils, but pils in general....why would you choose this one?

12oz bottle into a nonic. Pour gives a 3inch coarse white head that quickly falls to about 1/4inch. Very little lacing. beer is a very clear straw color.

Aroma is a little spicy hop, sulfur, very slight clean malt. In the mouth there is plenty of carbonation, some malty sweetness, just a little floral and spicy hop. Finishes dry with a lingering bitterness. Almost evaporates off the tongue. Very clean, but the bitterness is a little rough. Mouthfeel is a little thin and watery, but not too bad. Very much an easy drinker. Light bodied with a refreshing bitterness to keep it from weighing too heavy on the palate.

All around this is a fine if unremarkable German pils. At $9/12pack it's good to keep around when the weather warms up and I want an undemanding, refreshing beer by the grill.

This one is a nice crystal clear brassy color with a big 'ol white head that is fleeting but leaves moderate lacing. The nose is light and appley.

Taste starts sweet with a touch of that apple from the nose and slight grass. Sweetness slides yeastily over into a nice acidic bitter. I'm liking this alot. I tried a handful of imported pilsners this weekend and his is the only keeper really.

Mouthfeel is light and airy. I reccomend this one.

Pours out a brilliant and clear gold with champagne-like carbonation and a foamy white head that leaves huge, chunky lacing on the glass. Smell is of honey and very bready with a faint sulfur and vegetal note. Hops are extremely floral with an herb touch. Flavor is bright, malty, sweetish, crisp, drying, and has a wonderful and surprising hop bite near the end. Hops, as in the smell, have a definite herb/flower feel here. Mouthfeel is moderate in weight and has a soft carbonation level. This is quaffing beer. This is totally underrated. Impressed.

Not a bad pils, it could just be a little more complex and richer of flavor. There's a nice pale malt base with some hops and bitterness on tap. Balanced and smooth with a crisp hops bit at the end. Still, there are better pilsners out there of both the Czech and German variety.

Clear pale yellow with small whitehead that disappears to nothing.
Aroma is grassy hops and earthy funkiness.
Taste is very bitter from the hops, only a little sweetness from the malts with a slightly funky aftertaste.
Mouthfeel is full of carbonation making it very crisp, drying and again, a little too bitter.

Appearance: pours a pale gold with less head than I was expecting (I was pouring roughly, too) that disipates quickly.

Smell: wow, very strong aroma on this one, I could smell it from the time it left the bottle, at arm's length. Grassy hops, distinct pils aroma, smells like it's going to be dry, if that makes sense (very unlike a lot of the Belgians I've had recently, which smell like they'll be sweet).

Taste: Very clean at the front of the palate, then the bitterness hits you big. Resolves to a dry grassy finish. The lingering aftertaste leaves something to be desired. Malts show up more as the glass warms. Very refreshing, but a fair representative of the style.

Mouthfeel: Carbonation seems right on, mouthfeel is light enough to be thirst quenching, but not watery.

Drinkability: Inherently not the most interesting style, but the light character and assertive hops (and they're grassy, no less) make this one a good lawnmower beer.

This is my mom's current favorite beer, which means I can usually count on snagging at least one when I make an appearance at my parent's place for dinner.
This Deutch pours crisp and hoppy into my pint glass with a pale golden color and lots of visible carbon bubbles. The head is frothy but lasts only about 45 seconds. The nose is hoppy and grainy with a nose wrinkling bitterness that isn't good or bad, just kind of steady.
I'll go out on a limb and say Saaz hops, very similar in taste to a good Czech pilsner, like Urquel. A solid clean crisp opening with a great hoppy bite to finish. Nicely bitter, a very good beer for those that like their beer served real cold but still want some taste (I'm not talking to the Silver Bullet crowd).
Mouthfeel is medium and satisfying considering the carbonation, which doesn't effect the beer in a negative way.
A nice, solid German lager, superior to St. Pauli Girl or Beck's. Not much to look at or smell but it has the goods where it counts for me. Very drinkable and a good fallback beer. Thanks, Mom.

12oz green bottle, no freshness date, served in a 24oz Pilsner glass.

I was disappointed at first when I saw just how straw colored this was (more than other Pilsners I’ve had) but let me tell you, the head saves this one. When poured with vigor, it produces a thick, sudsy, five-finger head that dissipates to a two finger head in thirty seconds to a minute. That two finger head slowly dissipates to a one finger head that stays for several sips. Finally, it receeds to a thin lace across the top, clumped somewhat in the middle of the glass, that stays for most of the drink. Very pleasing.

The smell is less earthy and grainy than others I've had. Very clean, mild grains and some citrus. Enjoyable.

Taste goes along the lines of the smell. A very clean, crisp hop bitterness that stays on your tongue for some time. Definitely pleasant and refreshing. On a hot day, it’d be along the lines of a nice, tart lemonade.

I found this to be a A nicely drinkable Pilsner. It lacks the depth of, some of the same style, but it’s not something I’d refuse. In fact, I’d buy it again if in a Pilsner mood. Nice.

Pours a sparkling gold color from the bottle with a pillowy white head. A lot of lacing as the head diminished quickly. Nose is nondescript ... pilsner malt and hop, but malt dominated. Palate is malty and slightly sweet. Not much hop presence at all. Mouthfeel is light and well carbonated, but leaves a dry, moderately bitter finish. Maybe a bit skunky actually. More flavor than a macro pilsner for sure, but nothing extraordinary here. Just okay.

Poured clear and golden with a two finger foamy head, decent retention, decent sticky lacings. Smell of grain, straw and yeasty bread. Some lemon-like bitterness, yet slightly sweet, light hop flavor, with some aftertaste of corn and grain. Crisp and clean on the palate, and quite refreshing. I really enjoy this brew when the weather heats up, and at $19.99 a case, you cannot go wrong. Great to offer friends and family that are not too adventurous. A good alternative to U.S. Macro Pils and Lagers.
