12 oz bottle, poured into a pint glass

Appearance: Pours a beautiful, clear, deep, dark, mahogany color with a finger of white-colored head that quickly dissolved away into a thin lacing of foam that completely covered the top of the beer.

Aroma: Delicious! Tons of bready, toasted malt aromas, imparting notes of freshly baked pretzels and biscuits, flowed by aromas of caramel and brown sugar, black pepper, and touches of floral, piney hops.

Taste: Just as delicious as the aroma! Lots of bready, toasted malt up front, followed by lots of caramel and brown sugar-like sweetness, a black pepper, and touches of floral, piney hops at the finish. This is a massive malt bomb, sweet and bready.

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied and very creamy with some carbonation to tickle the taste-buds. With an ABV of 5.7%, there is no alcohol on the palate.

Overall: This is an outstanding, Märzen!! Absolutely delicious! This will become a yearly main-stay in my fridge during Oktoberfest season, as long as it’s available and I can find it!

11.2oz. bottle

Pours clear copper brown amber with a frothy white foam head. Smells like red apple, grapes, rich malty molasses, dark caramel, brown bread, toasted nutty woody grains, with mild spicy earthy floral grass. Tastes like red apples, grapes, rich malty molasses, dark caramel, brown bread, toasted nutty woody grains, with spicy earthy floral grass. Feels medium-light bodied, slick and creamy with low carbonation. Overall a nice Oktoberfestbier.

L: Pours brilliant tea brown with a slight red orange tint supporting a 1” cream colored moderately persistent foam stand. S: Clean lager nose with no fruit. Bready German malt with a light toast. No fruit, no caramel, no diacetyl or dark roast flavors. T: Clean lightly sweet lightly toasted malts, light spicy malt character, light bread, moderate hop bitterness, no hop flavor, no fruit, malt forward with long, rich bread after tastes. F: Very creamy, clean and smooth with medium body and carbonation. O: A very easy to drink Oktoberfest.

A-dark copper with good clarity, very appealing. Fair head retention.
S-sweet malty aroma, pancakes. No real hop aroma c/w style
T-very nice malty sweet taste but still drinkable, not cloying.
M-appropriate, not thin.
O-really like this beer. Went back to the co-op for more. Easy drinking for those fall days to come(hopefully)

Poured from a 16 oz. can into a stein glass.

Appearance: Pours a deep brownish amber with a lot of rising bubbles. Big three finger off white head with decent retention.

Smell: A bready, toasty, and sweet malt forward aroma with hints of caramel and fruit. Toasted malts with good hints of caramel, toffee, biscuit, grains, and lager yeast. Fruit hints of apple and slight lemon. Sweet honey like scent as well. Hops are light. A solid malty aroma.

Taste: Like the smell indicates, a nicely sweet, toasty, and bready malt driven taste with notes of sweet caramel and fruit. Bready toasted malt with notes of biscuit, grains, caramel, toffee, cracker, and lager yeast. Fruit undertones of apple and lemon along with some honey sweetness. Subtle earthy hops in the background. A pretty nice lager taste.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Creamy, crisp, and very smooth.

Overall: A very solid take on the German Marzen style. Good bready malt and fruit notes.

Had this at an Oktoberfest event at the Student Prince in Springfield, MA. The beer had a dark color with some amber in the light and a nice, thick head that lasted for awhile. Roasty aromas of malts with butter and spices filled the nose. Pretty good, sweet taste with a sweetness like caramel mixed with some great malt flavors. Nice and creamy body with a decent carbonation. Overall, this was a nice and sweet drink for the evening festivities.

Poured from 500ml can into a dimpled mug.

Appearance: dark amber-orange hue with no haze and a strong effervescence. Head is two fingers of frothy ivory foam which stick around a good long time -- very good indeed.

Smell: lightly sweet and lightly fruity with just a dash of toast. There's even a hint of banana in there, so you know I love it.

Taste: more of that sweet fruitiness from the aroma. There's a little caramel here, and it's nice for an Oktoberfest if a little bit on the sweet side.

Mouthfeel: medium-light body with a moderate carbonation and a decent creaminess. Not too bad.

Overall: if nothing else, it's a great-looking beer. Other than that, it's a straightforward Oktoberfest that's a bit on the sweet side but nonetheless rather tasty.

So...I suppose sometimes low expectations can help a beer out at times. I hadnt had a Dinkel in many years, but the office pub (yes, we have one of those) had that this Oktoberfest/marzen during an even this evening. Nose was malty and slight!y sweet. Flavor was solidly malty with some roasted characteristics without being overly sweet. Super drinkable and definitely better than some other Oktoberfest beers out there. The kind of beer you could pound under a big tent with a thousand of your closest friends.
