Poured from a brown 11.2 oz. bottle. Has a cloudy copper color with amber hues and a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of dark fruits, spices. Taste is malts, spices, mild fruits and alcohol. Feels medium/full bodied in the mouth and overall this is a decent beer.

Beautiful, brownish-amber color with a thick and pillowy off-white head. The smell has brown sugar and spice. There is also ripe fruit (maybe cherries) and caramel. The taste is sweeter than expected, with some of the Belgian phenolic notes. Full in body and a little boozy. I really enjoyed this one.

Poured a clear, brown body with decent head and no lace. The aroma has notes of mild spices and something akin to candi sugar and fruits. Mild beer with thin body and is a little dry and bitter; still get some dark fruits like prunes and there's a touch of maltiness in a clean finish but not, in my opinion, a great Belgian beer.

A Trappist brewery I had never heard of before!
This is subtle, dry and smooth. Best before 8/4/2024, so it probably could stand more time to age in the bottle but oh well. There's some good flavor development as is so I may pick up some more bottles to hang out in my fridge. A hint of sweetness is in there, kept in line by some mildly bitter boundaries.
Belgian strong dark ales remain a favorite style though it is difficult to find a good one, especially one I have not tried before. Hopefully I find the 10 version!

As a trappiste ale fan, it was exciting to try a new brewery I hadn’t had before. Dry, smooth mouthfeel, and more on the bitter side than sweet but some faint molasses tones. Somewhat tame for a strong ale but very enjoyable.

Unique Trappist ale, set apart from its brethren. Nice balance, even as label mentions spices, which are understated. Only negative is availability in the US.

I like to sip on stronger beers when I am sitting outside by my fire pit. I was looking forward to pouring this one into my Chimay goblet and enjoying a rich, tasty brew. I was disappointed to say the least!!! I poured this beer from an 11.2 oz bottle into the goblet. It looked OK, hazy mahogany brown color, a good bit of carbonation, at least on the first pour, and a small cream color/antique white head. Head retention was about average for a strong beer, it faded fast to just a covering of the glass. No lacing to speak of. Aroma and taste featured mild caramel malt, a slight sweetness and a touch of bitterness in the finish but not much else. No candi sugar, no dark fruit, no yeastiness.....not my idea of a Trappist take on a Belgian Strong Dark Ale. Mouthfeel was somewhat rich but no spiciness or other strong aspects on the tongue. Alcohol was fairly muted. Needless to say, there are better Trappist beers out there!!!!

Poured into a chalice glass, this is a reddish-tinted brown color, very effervescent, with a solid, lasting head. Aroma is very malty, with notes of overripe fruit. Taste is .... pretty good, not too sweet. Lots of phenols. A little hot from the alcohol, perhaps. Light caramel notes. Highly fruity yeast character. The body is typically good for a strong belgian beer: substantial but not heavy. Pretty decent abbey style beer.

Dark brown hued with a three quarter inch frothy brown head. Light lacing. The aroma is of dark malt and caramel. I'm tasting dark malt, but it seems a bit muted. There's not much to say about the feel other than it is moderately carbonated.

Bought it yesterday (6/23/22), but the best by date was 8/8/21. So maybe the review could be skewed by that.
Super cloudy for a dark beer.
Smells fruity, like raisins. Also, a little brown sugar, molasses smell.
The taste is the raisin and spices. The alcohol taste comes through a little strong for me.
Mouthfeel is good. Typical carbonation of a European Trappist (mostly Belgian) beer.
