Trappist yeast works well with dark malt. A worthy Belgian style, complex and dangerously drinkable.

Bottle from Altopalato, served at home in a trappist glass. Pours a brown reddish colour, medium head with long retention, thick lacing. Aroma of chcolate, licorice, dark and red fruits, spices, cinnamon, vanilla, bananas, candy sugar, apricots, cloves. Full body, thick sticky texture, good carbonation. Sweet finish. Taste follows the aroma. Wonderful, just one of the best of the quad style.

330 mL bottle purchased at the LCBO a little over a year ago; best before Mar 24 2023 and served barely chilled.
Pours a deep, clear chestnut brown colour with crimson red highlights; gathered atop is nearly two fingers of creamy, foamy, pale tan-coloured head. It leaves behind an even curtain of lovely lace as it is whittled down to a frothy collar and thin cap - a very enticing-looking glass of beer. Candi sugar, dark fruits and malts on the nose: kind of fruitcake-y, with raisin, fig and cherry coming to mind. Hints of sponge toffee and caramel candy, with yeast spiciness and a decent whiff of ethanol completing the bouquet.
A quality quad - well balanced, not too sweet or boozy. Bready malts, toffee, prune, fig and raisin, with candi sugar sweetness present throughout the sip; hints of licorice and herbal hops towards the tail end, with suggestions of ripe banana. Full in body, with aggressive carbonation that prickles the palate and froths up in the palate more than I'd prefer. Even still, it does feel quite satisfying, almost luxurious in the mouth, and the 10% is rather well masked, making this a very pleasurable sipper.
Final Grade: 4.22, an exceptional A-. As far as trappist quads go, Zundert 10 is in the middle of the pack - but don't be discouraged, that doesn't discount it from being a fantastic beer that I'd encourage all Belgian beer-loving BAs to seek out and try in the future. A little fizzy for my tastes, but this is one style where I've come to expect (or at least tolerate) brisk carbonation - and besides, it does settle down and becomes much smoother during the last half of the session. A safe cellaring candidate: it'll last two or three years easy, and maybe even longer, at least if you're patient enough to wait. Not sure that I am.

330 ml bottle, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. ABV is 10%. Dark brown colour, large beige head. Aroma of malts, brown kandij sugar, dark dried fruits incl. raisins, oak, hints of mild spices. Medium sweet flavour with the same elements as the aroma, very distinct kandij sugar. Very moderate hops.

L- Deep ruby-chestnut. Poured with very minor sediment and ditto left in the bottle. 5mm pale tan head.
S- Mucho Belgian estery notes!, reminds me of the hard-boiled sweets Pear Drops. I struggle to find more, but I do have bad winter congestion.
T- Mega-estery, deep malts and a gentle rise back into a light hoppy flourish into the finish.
F- It's clearly a solid beer yet it balances a quite vibrant taste with a pungent feel. Carbonation in the mouth is very good (and ditto still in the glass). Hides it's hefty ABV% well.
O- I like it, nothing sticks out to object to at all. It's one of the most estery beers I think I've ever had - if someone needs a clear example of that taste then this would be a good example.
330ml bottle BB: £3.10 Bought from BeautifulBeers/BurySt.Edmunds as part of a large pick-your own consignment to London.

A big quad here pours dark brown with little collar. Served but too cold here so nose deepens upon warming. Fruity malts greets you first followed by figgy banana and floorboard roasted nuts. Taste is sweet and smooth with complexity of berry finish.

L: Rubyish, dark brown in color, barely can see through the glass. Holds good lacing. Large beige-ish head at pour, which will later dissipate to a 1 finger head.
S: Nuts, pears, hint of banana, rum/alcohol candy and some spices.
T: Plums, apricots, banana, nuts, hint of caramel and a lightly bready aftertaste.
F: Medium body and carbonation. Very nice balance between sweet and bitter. Has a creamy/silky mouthfeel and like most of the quads, the abv is hidden.
O: Really nice quad. Somewhat unexpected, as I've had Zundert 8 before (a tripel), which was a bit of dissapointment and probably thought that this beer isn't going to be that good, but the quad proved me wrong!

I haven't tried a new trappist beer for a long time and, because this one is Dutch not Belgian, I was worried. I ought not to have been. This is one of the best in the style I ever had.
Pours as the rest and the nose (figs, caramel, banana, et al) is very similar to St. Bernardus Abt 12.
The taste is fantastic. Far better than Rochefort, better than Westvleteren and by gosh, maybe even St. Bernie. It's the finish that does it for me.
Honestly, I need to get more. I have been IPA-ing and Bourbon Barrel stout-ing for a couple of years now, but this will make me switch things up a bit. Bravo.

330 ml bottle served cold into a Spencer Trappist Glass. LCBO purchase for $4.95 CDN. Best before March 24, 2023.
Appearance - Very dark brown appearing black in the glass. A finger of soft fluffy tan head rests on top. Exceptional staying power and minimal lacing left behind.
Smell - When cold, rather subdued, some general caramel and toffee and dark fruits like raisins and plums. Candi sugar also prevalent. Improves in intensity as it warms.
Taste - Hmmm., hard to describe. Toffee and candi sugar hints of darks fruits again plums, raisins most prominent. There's a luscious juicy plum or three in there. Finishes restrained with some earthy bitterness. Balanced, tasty and unique. Flavors don;t change but intensity ramps up a bit as it warms.
Mouthfeel - Medium-heavy bodied, carbonation is reasonably assertive for the style. Finish is quite dry. Drinks easily. Booze masterfully disguised.
Overall - Pretty awesome brew that stacks up well with some of the best. It's not quite Rochefort or St. Bernardus or Westvleteren or even Chimay, but really not far off. More subtle than many of these brews which are legendary for complexity, flavor intensity but also being subtle. Zundert 10 is a bit more subtle than that but with a killer flavor profile, a brew I will be on the lookout for again.

Bottle: Poured a dark mahogany color ale with a large brown foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of candi sugar, dry fruits with some caramelized malt notes is pretty enticing. Taste is a good mix of residual candi sugar, dry fruits, and caramelized malt notes with some light yeasty notes. Body is about average with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Very enjoyable but doesn’t have the complexity of some of the classic Trappist Quadrupel.

De Bieronomy. En copa Grimbergen. Viendo The Mandalorian 1x07-08. Con palomitas. Quad agradable pero con perfil acaramelado y no de frutas oscuras como me gusta en el estilo. El abv esta muy bien oculto

Pours a dark reddish brown with the trademark thick Belgian head.
Smell is fruity, spicy and a bit sweet. Notes of dried fruit, raisins, yeast and brown sugar and a slight hint of leather.
Taste is rich and fruity with notes of yeast, dried frit, raisins, brown sugar and a roasty, nutty hint, A little bit of soft bitterness and nice warming alcohol on the finish. Very elegant and subtle, despite it's ABV.
Mouthfeel is medium, smooth and well carbonated.
Overall, a very nice quad, subtle and refined, and could probably age quite well.

Pours a deep dark-brown color with a big top of beige head that dissolves slowly and leaves some sticky lacings on the glass.
Aroma is of caramel, bread, ripe banana, dried fruits, gingerbread and spices. The taste is sweet with notes of dark and dried fruits at the start with strong caramel and dark malt notes in the background. It then gets more notes of spices in the flavour before it finishes of slightly dry. Nicely ballanced in the flavours, but the finish and the aftertaste is a little weak. Mouthfeel is soft and silky with a medium carbonation and a medium body.
A very nice example of a quadruple. Enjoyable.

Poured into my Zundert Chalice
A - Pours the classic quad appearance with dark cola and foamy Beige head but not quite the creamyness that we expect from the Trappist order.
S - Some sweet malts and some spice
T - Well this has the charachteristics of the fake trappist beer, in that it is over carbonated and the sweetness is just a little too much.
M - Again the traditional trappist beers have a fuller body. This beer is overcarbonated and under bodied.
O - Dont get me wrong this is a great beer, but up against the Rochefort 10 or St Bernardus Abt 12 it is way behind.
