Perhaps it would mellow considerably with age (I suspect so in fact). However I found it to be far too boozy and unbalanced to be enjoyable, and struggled to finish it. The aroma was inviting and the coconut flavor was very well integrated, however it just was too strong from the alcohol, I’ve had plenty of high abv stouts and this just wasn’t worth the money for me.

Canned 9/04/20
Pours a tan but small frothy head with med retention, a bit of lacing, nice legs, very dark basically black color

Nose brings plenty of coconut, bright coconut almost like the coconut life-saver, a bit of toasted malt, sweet lactose and milk chocolate notes, light perfumey alcohol, touch of vanilla, but I don't get any beer...

Taste again brings loads of coconut, toasted and candy like, sweetened candied shredded coconut, a bit of cocoa and lactose milk chocolate like, plenty of vanilla with the coconut, mild fusel alcohol character, but NO BEER!!!

Mouth is med to fuller bod, med foamy carb, a bit of warming slight tingly acohol

Overall again wtf! Why am I buying a BEER to have it taste like a candy bar with no actual beer in it?! If I wanted that I would just melt down a candy bar and drink that. I wanted a stout but instead I got slapped in the mouth with a sack of candy bars.

Imperial stout with coconut, vanilla and lactose. Served a little cold - Pours one shade shy of black with a dense 1/8th inch mocha-color head. Nose expresses the merest hints of cocoa and lactose. Taste is fairly bold - cocoa, vanilla and perhaps a hint of cinnamon with lactose at the back. Mouthfeel is light-medium in body (closer to medium), with an even carbonation and a pleasant mouthfeel. Overall, a nice coconut presence without coming off as artificial. Alcohol is well-hidden. My second favorite IS from these guys behind BA zzzlumber. Would love to see this in a bourbon barrel!

Canned on 7/26/19

Pours an inky deep black body capped with the slightest head of bubbly, dark beige foam which retracts almost instantly, leaving no traces of lacing, cap, or collar.

Aromas open with moderately assertive toasted coconut dominating, soon integrating a minor vanilla lactic presence along with some cocoa; presents mainly as earthy and semi-sweet.

Taste is a fine mixture of coconut, chocolate, and vanilla, with hints of dark cherry confection building as a result; the swallow shows dusted cocoa and heavily toasted coconut lingering.

Mouthfeel has a creamy, silky smooth medium body and restrained carbonation; slightly sticky, slightly toasty along the mid-palate, and a well-tempered residual sweetness through the finish.

A sweet stout that nearly crosses into pastry territory, until it doesn’t; not quite cloying, and nicely drying combination of flavor, even if they didn’t come together perfectly.
