Had on tap at Lynnwood Grill. Good example of the class. It compares favorably with Firestone Walker's Wookey Jack, which is my Gold Standard for the Black IPA. Smooth drinking at 7%, it has a nice hop presence and the toasted malt character that gives it a really nice flavor, one that you really hope for in this type of ale. Give me a growler of this and I'm a happy guy.

Poured into a Duvel tulip. Bottom of can says 12/28/16.

A- Pours a mostly opaque black color with a 3/4 inch light tan head that retains well before becoming a thick ring around the edge of the glass and a mostly full sheet of bubbly surface foam. Resilient lacing leaves small clots behind.

S- Lovely pine-forward nose with the roasted malt providing a nice backdrop. Slightly sweet

T- Such great balance as the green, earthy flavor of the hops stand out front and center while the slightly sweet malt enters mid-palate and finishes with a hearty bitterness.

M- Sharp from the hops with medium carbonation and a fullish body.

O- Now I see why this won a medal. A truly excellent Black IPA, which is a style I always like to see more and more of.

Nice dark beer with a light tan head that left only a random speck of lacing. The aroma is piney and floral with a smell of roasted malt and hints of chocolate. The taste is nice and sweet with chocolate notes and a really nice pine flavor and lots of citrus. There is a really nice bitter finish that has a little sweetness to it. This is a really great black IPA.
