on tap at Blackwater Draw (12/1/14)

L: black with 1/2-inch tan head; super dark ruby amber that's clear; super stick on the head but little lacing

S: leather; sweet chocolate, coffee, mocha latte; very soft and subtle, much sweeter than the taste; astringent coffee bean

T: real coffee -- not the coffee-like notes but tastes like the brewer mixed it with coffee; not overly sweet; slight alcohol presence; very burnt/bitter notes (bitter hops or burnt malt?)

F: silky, almost cask-like with little carbonation; light

O: good not great; a little American brown ale/black IPA-like with some super burnt, bitter notes that overtake the sweeter, more traditional stout notes of coffee, chocolate, dark fruits

I swear, this beer gets better with every batch getting brewed. This is one of my all time favorite coffee beers. This was the first beer I had from Blackwater when they first open and it is something I go back to every time I visit. Dark opaque appearance with a rich bitter coffee and roasted malt flavor coming through. This approaches Founders Breakfast stout and that is a huge compliment.

Poured from growler, into pint glass.
Review from notes (12/24/2013).

A: Pitch black, very little tan head. Almost no carbonation.

S: Bitter. Smells of black coffee.

T: Somewhat bitter and dark; dark chocolate and black coffee.

M: Very low carbonation, almost flat, could use more. Thin mouthfeel.

O: Pretty good overall. I loved the bitterness of the coffee, but it could use a boost in the carbonation.
Great first brew from Blackwater Draw. Looking forward to more of their stuff in the future.
