very fresh and tasty ipa right here, impressively sturdy for its humble abv, this is oily and west coasty, packed with hops in the citrus and pine ranges, and drinking quite fresh and big, bitter, juicy, and satisfying all at once. i think this is the one they used all michigan ingredients on, and its definitely a bit different than the normal hatter, more robust and texturally impactful on the hops. notes of red apple and pineapple are a different combination of fruitiness in a hop bill, but it works with a slightly sweet pastry tasting malt base. fully flavored, lots of body, decent carbonation, sticky sweet in the finish, mild bitterness, insanely fresh. this represents some of the better hoppy stuff i have had from these guys overall. its neat they are doing so many different variations of the hatter ipa, and this is one of the best so far. the malt base is really the biggest difference for me, it seems like the michigan malt is a bit more sturdy and further down that crystal to caramel track than the original. nice twist on the classic here, worth picking up.

Not retired by any means...bottled on 5/18/16.Pours into an impy nonic a clear brass color with a sticky half finger white head that settles slowly into a frothy mass.Dank and earthy hops with the earth really sticking out, sweet sugary caramel malts are quite hefty as well.Earthiness is the main flavor component along with sweet malts that really get more sweet as I drink more.I bought this outta nostalgia, growing up in the middle of the mitten I wanted to try a MI hopped IPA.This is mainly just average really.
