Dragons Milk Reserve Triple Mash.

Alright I paid $25.99 for a mixed four pack of all four new varities so this thing better be fucking great. I honestly wasn't the biggest fan of regular dragons milk when I had it a few years ago. At 14% I expect this thing to be pretty damn hot. Enough talk, let's dive in.

Look - From the bottle into a snifter. Served at about 55 degrees. Pours a lighter shade of black with noticable ruby hues of held up to the light. The head form to about two fingers of bubbly off white head that doesn't stick around very long and eventually dies down to a cloud formation around the top of the glass. Carbonation appear to be low on this brew. Looks intimidating and for the first time I feel somewhat afraid to dive in.

Smell - Now that shit just smells hot. Big bourbon barrel notes right from the get go with sweet chocolate and vanilla extract. A touch of wood and deeply roasted grains and a smidge of smoked meat. All those secondary flavors fall well to the back behind the bourbon presence.

Taste - Bourbon along with its trademark heat initially though it subdues as you go further into the glass. Bourbon remains present and truly dominates the flavor profile as expected though it lends way to smooth dark chocolatey bliss with a nice and welcome dosage of vanilla and oaky barrelyness. The flavor lingers around for what seems like forever. I cann tell you right now this is NOT a beginners stout and it may have you on your ass after two or three. So newbies beware. Half way through the glass and I'm already feeling the buzz so that should tell you something. Very tasty.

Feel - Body is very full though not coating. Carbonation is low to moderate seemingly dependant on the temperature of the beer. Swallows as you would expect for a large bourbon barrel stout. The alcoholic heat dies down as the beer warms up a bit and as you continue to drink the abyss. Lingering flavors of bourbon and vanilla dominate the large portion of the feel with just a touch of the barrel like flavor lingering on the tail end all around the mouth.

Overall - This was definitely a fantastic stout. The nose was mostly booze with touches of this and that but the taste and mouthfeel are what truly unlocked the potential. Heavy, wonderfully boozy and very warming as it hits the stomach. If it counts, I'm about a ' middleweight ' level drinker in terms of how quickly I feel things and one bottle has me correcting fast text typos already. At $25.99 a sixer, I'd say it is worth the price. Word to the wise, grab a few packs as this may achieve whale level ratings someday assuming we don't get any clueless Stella loving hipsters who make an account just to bash this. Perfect winter beer, and a perfect beer for a black, down on your luck kinda day. BUY IT..

Very nice! Had the chance to get this one on tap at the Grand Rapids location. Cola colored liquid in a small snifter. Aromas of wood and vanilla and dark cocoa and roast. Smooth on the nose, and not as heavy an aroma as I thought it would have. Flavor punches with alternately smooth Whiskey Barrel flavors and boozy burns. Sweetness abounds, whether it's dark fruits or cocoa or vanilla.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a Dogfish Head tulip. 2017 edition (so rocking 17% ABV)

L: Dark, dark brown pour... nearly black with thin off-white head. Modest ring of lacing.

S: Big and boozy... roast, bourbon, sugars, and vanilla.

T.F: Just like it smells. Super smooth... strong roast grains and burned sugars. Whiskey definitely present and accounted for. Vanilla and chocolate... lighter espresso. Boozy... but not as much as 17% would make you think. Medium bodied... low carbonation. Warming... more complex as it comes up to room temp.

O: A stellar bourbon-aged booze bomb. Delicious... a slow dessert sipper, and definitely a departure from the rest of the 'Dragons Milk' line.

2019 bottle poured into a wine glass. An opaque dark brown color as expected with a very small tan head that left quickly. Aroma was surprising with restrained whiskey notes and big malt character - brownie batter and roasted grain. Taste followed for the most part. A thick brownie flavor met by the barrel. There were some cola notes and a sweetness likely from the malt and the big ABV. Full bodied and gloriously boozy. Enjoyable.

Pours a plum-tinted black color with close to two fingers of light tan head that fizz away very quickly leaving a thin, but lasting crown.

Restrained bourbon barrel and a little flat Coke, root beer and cherry in the nose. Maybe a little chocolate, too. It’s very mild.

The booze absolutely shows in the taste, though. The alcohol heat here packs a punch. Again, I’d say flat Coke / root beer and a hint of cherry add a touch of dull sweetness. There’s some even lighter chocolate, ash and nice wood character in the mix as well. Alcohol and very light piney bitterness are what linger in the aftertaste.

The feel is relatively thin for an imperial stout these days, and a touch sticky, with fizzy carbonation.

This one is mostly about the ABV, but there is enough malt character lurking beneath the alcohol to ponder over. Very fun to try, and I do like the booziness.

12oz bottle, snifter glass. Dark black body, one finger white head, shortlived with not much lacing, as expected from a big beer such as this. Smell is dark chocolate, a bit of fudge, slightly decadent, sweet brown sugar. Not much bourbon character, maybe a little oak. It's an overall a sweet tasting stout, a bit lighter in body, a lighter sweet chocolate fudge with a hefty dry brown sugar sweetness that isn't quite molasses or caramel. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, relatively light and slightly watery. It's the base beer but bigger proportionately, which means the relatively thin body still detracts a little from the flavours that are all there otherwise.

On tap at Morris Tap and Grill in Randolph. Pours a jet black ebony hue with moderate frothing. Assertive aroma replete with hints of chocolate and mocha. Similar overall flavor profile.

Sampled at SAVOR 2017. Rich and delicious and well integrated. Not cloying, despite the sweetness in the scent and taste. Hot finish, so it was better to sip.
