Dragon’s Milk Triple Mash is aged for one year in select bourbon barrels. The flavors of Dragon’s Milk – chocolate, roasted malt, vanilla, & oak – are all amplified in a way that still allows for balance and refinement to shine through.

Look - great fairy thick black with a slight head and great rimming
Smell - caramel vanilla and barrel
Taste - really like the smell with the caramel vanilla and lots of barrel with a slight roasted malt, really hides the booze
Feel - thick buy not syrupy, light carb
OVerall - really great beer

Pours a dark brown with no head on top. Gives off a licorice milky smell. This is a very strong tasting stout. Extremely boozy with candied dark fruit at the beginning and bourbon on the finish.

A very rich malt character. My only complaint is that, although it's labeled as a bourbon barrel aged beer, I don't get a bourbon flavor, although I do get the alcohol. Maybe the bold malt flavor masks the bourbon.

Not what I expected. Pours a rich chestnut brown with a veritable underwater volcano of carbonation. I’m not exaggerating. The middle was so effervescent I thought maybe something was dead and decaying in it! The aroma is muted, almost imperceptible. The first sip was a surprise, tasting like a bright bourbon, darker version of a Samichlaus triple bock. I enjoy Samichlaus, so this is a good profile. Mouthfeel is medium, and leaves a slightly sticky linger that keeps the caramelly notes in play. The alcohol is nowhere to be found in bite or warming, but it’s a beast, so I’m not knocking this back quickly to get another.

Bottled Jan 19/23 - purchased at Siciliano's Market in Grand Rapids, MI April 2023. Now simply "Dragon's Milk Triple Mash" and 2023 version 17% ABV, a triple mashed bourbon barrel-aged stout.
Pours a midnight black (could it be exceptionally dark brown - sure) with a small covering of short lived dark tan head.
Aromas of brown sugar and bourbon booziness, caramel, some molasses and date, vanilla and a soft hint of chocolate.
Taste follows with bourbon soaked vanilla, brown sugar, caramel, and some raisin and date. There is certainly a bit of chocolate, but not the dominant feature.
For the ABV this beer only has a solid medium mouthfeel - warming booziness - sweet and delicious but in no way cloying - Dragon's Milk pumped up just a tad.

Bottled ??/??/23, date partially obstructed

It’s been a while since I’ve had one of the BIF beers that BigIronH sent me, and I only have one left after this unfortunately. This one is bound to be a bold and boozy beer at 17%. Let’s pop it open and find out what it’s all about

Pours completely pitch black with a finger of creamy light beige head that quickly fades to a thin ring and leaves minimal lacing

The nose is boozy for sure but it’s nicely balanced. I’m picking up on aromas of molasses, dark chocolate, brown sugar, sweet bourbon, toasted oak, vanilla bean, burnt caramel, raisin, and light black pepper

It’s even more boozy in taste but I still really dig this. On the front end of the sip I’m tasting molasses, cocoa powder, black cherry, sweet bourbon, brown sugar, charred oak, and caramel. The swallow brings notes of dark chocolate, molasses, sweet bourbon, charred oak, vanilla bean, burnt caramel, black cherry, red grape, and walnut

A full body pairs with gentle carbonation, resulting in a slick beer. Finishes surprisingly dry for the abv

This one is really solid. It almost veers into overly boozy territory but just avoids it

Released 3/18/23; drank 10/8/23 @ the Yarchives.

Brown/black appearance.

An even pour yielded a small, noisy tan head; no lacing remained.

Toasted oak, caramel, sweet bourbon & faint marshmallow notes in the nose.

Sticky medium thick mouthfeel.

Caramel, toasted oak & sweet bourbon flavors.

Too thin, sticky & sweet for me to enjoy. Not awful, though.

While regulation Dragon's Milk is a strong candidate for nectar of the gods, some of the seasonal variations prove the more is less theory. What we have here is more, but unlike the typical seasonals with their banana and orange and smores, (and there's nothing wrong with any of those,) this is more of the same. So what happens when you ramp up the base model from 11% to 17%? You get a warmer, bourbonier, boozier take on the beloved original. And if that's not a slam dunk 5/5 then I don't know what the hell is.

Pours dark chocolate brown with a nice, one finger head. Aroma is nicely oak and bourbon. Taste is chocolate and bourbon, nicely complex and flavorful. Body is to the left of moderate, being on the lighter side, but still carries a very nicely complex character. The ABV at 17% is fairly well controlled but in no way hidden. This is a wonderful beer that i would enjoy again in a heartbeat.
