12oz bottle poured into a tulip

A- pours dark brown in color with a one-finger foamy khaki head that reduces to leave nothing behind

S- initial aroma is of coffee, carrying that classic 'green pepper' aroma to it. Undertones of char, cinnamon, oak, vanilla cream and caramel

T- chocolate and oak initially, followed by a hit of cinnamon. Mid-palate brings out some bourbon notes, as well as a green pepper note. The finish gives a creamy vanilla note, as well as more cinnamon and oak

M- medium body with low carbonation leads to a slightly foamy mouthfeel and a slick, warming finish from the pepper

Pioured from a 12 oz bottle into a Dogfish Head tulip

L: Nearly clear dark mahogany pour... nearly black with a finger of tannish head. Modest ring of lacing.

S: Roast and sweets... vanilla, chilis, bourbon, and spice.

T.F: Sweet roasted sugars and charred grains. Chocolate, vanilla, bourbon, and cinnamon. Smokey vegetable flavors from the chilis. Very faint heat. Some roast bitterness for balance but still on the sweet side. Medium bodied... boozy and warming. More complex/rich as it warms.

O: A solid mexican hot chocolate cake bourbon stout. Good flavors and complexity. Not quite up to Stone's xocoveza but in a similar vein.

Taste: Complex, dark malts, spiced, cinnamon, vanilla, some cocoa, slight chili heat, oak notes with a kick to the finish. Same with the nose. Black, opaque, tan head with very delicate lace. Medium/full body. Nice after dinner ale.

Poured easy with a small head. Light lining throughout the drink. Dark chocolate in color with a very dark amber in the light. Mexican spice taste is very prominent with a VERY light vanilla finish. Roasty for sure, but easy to drink

appearance - Pours black with thin tan head, not much lacing.

Aroma - Chocolate, light cinnamon, vanilla oak and bourbon.

Taste - Light chocolate cake up front, the spices come in more on the finish but are still solid. Great bourbon, oak and vanilla .

Feel - Medium bodied smooth creamy heat from the bourbon and the chilies het lingers.

Overall - A well done spiced stout, truth be told I have had several bottles this one is about 8 months old and has mellowed a little but still solid.

12oz bottle, served in a snifter glass. Pours a medium cola brown body, half finger offwhite head, good retention, no lacing. Smell is fudge, light cinnamon, a bit of cocoa and milk chocolate, trace bourbon. It integrates reasonably well and gives off the aroma of a "cake", fitting the name. Flavour is slightly watery, but reasonable cinnamon presence with a milk chocolate, cocoa and a bit of slight bourbon to it. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, slightly thin and watery, slightly undercarbonated. Overall, a solid value with a nice integrated flavour with the adjuncts.

12 ounce bottle into a snifter. Bottled 3/20/17, had 4/28/17.

Pours a cola color, mostly opaque, with a half inch head and some spotty lacing. Smells of chocolate, malt, light cinnamon, vanilla, some chilies, light bourbon, a kind of fruity aroma- not dark fruit. The taste is malt, bourbon, chilies, chocolate, vanilla, light cocoa, some oak, light cinnamon . A fair amount of heat, light alcohol. Smooth, a good medium to full body, appropriately carbonated.

My least favorite variant of the series to date, it’s just not up to par as a Mexican cake style beer or as Dragon’s Milk. The chilies do show nicely, the cinnamon is lacking.
