The smell is over the top banana and coconut! Just the smell alone makes you want to jump right in. Very smooth and sweet but with a bitter finish. Nice alcohol bite at the end! This is a very enjoyable chilly afternoon sipping beer. Too bad they retired it!

12 ounce bottle into a tulip snifter. Bottled 9/4/18, had 12/10/18.

Pours dark brown, opaque, with a half inch foamy head and some soapy lacing. Aroma is banana- like flavoring, malt, coconut, chocolate, light vanilla, a little cola, and something spice like cinnamon- even though it’s not in there. No bourbon barrel noticed. Flavor is pretty much the same as the nose, with the banana improving to seeming half real, half flavoring. Faint bourbon, coconut, malt, chocolate, some vanilla and the same spice thing. Smooth, a good full body- for once not compromised by the add- ins, well carbonated.

Reminds me of banana Laffy Taffy, which had about as much bourbon barrel as this (ok, cheap shot). The coconut saves this one. And the barrels do show less than in most of the variants. Worth a try for one bottle, not four.

12oz bottle courtesy of ovaltine. According to the stamp on the bottle's neck, it was bottled on September 4, 2018-at 11:37am, if you're really wanting specifity. For something that's 11% alcohol by volume, I'm not too worried about nearly 9 months of aging.

Once poured into a glass, it's a very dark shade of brown, virtually black, and concedes nothing when held up to light. Big, creamy, khaki colored head that takes it's time dropping, leaving sheets of lace as it slowly does so.

Initially, the nose was a big, brash bash of banana aroma. As it warmed, some coconut and bourbon notes came out to play. I suspected that nine months in the bottle hadn't been long enough for this to dispense with it's boozy heat.

My suspicions were mostly correct. This is a big, sweet, fruity booze grenade of a beer. As it warms, it reminds you it's a stout, chiefly towards the finish, where there's some dark malt roastiness that has managed to get out of the shadows of the adjuncts and the barrels, but this is mostly a bourbon flavored banana-coconut pudding pop in beer form. That's not the bad thing I might've thought at one time. The banana flavor actually is better than I would've thought it would be, but I'm finding myself wishing the stout flavor aspects were a stronger partner. Perhaps, given some time for the booze to mellow some, that would happen.

Fairly thin body, with a somewhat watery mouthfeel.

Whoa! Holy boozy banana coconut pudding pops, Batman! Actually, it doesn't taste bad, I'm enjoying it in 12oz. form (I suspect I'd differ if this was a bomber or 750mL), but when its gone, I'll have no desire for more right away. In fact, as we do get limited NH distribution here these days, if I were to come across this again, I'd definitely pick up more with the idea of laying them down for a year or two. Thanks, ovaltine!

Picked up a single of this & have been waiting ever since to be in a bourbon/banana/coconut mood. Evidently I don’t get those, so here we are. 12 oz. bottle.

Black, hey, it looks just like Dragon’s Milk! Smells like it too, like someone bombed a malt factory, with a touch of bourbon, just like the original. No hint of the adjuncts; they must be waiting for my mouth.

Dragon’s Milk – Banana Coconut should be called BANANABANANABANANA with banana. Holy banana overkill. Banana, banana shake, plantains are all at the fore. There’s beer here – roast, malts, sweets, with just a hint of barrel. No coconut. Glad I couldn’t find a four pack of this.

Banana bomb that misses the charm of the base beer, & is easily the weakest of the variants I’ve consumed to date. Mediocre.

Served in a goblet glass from he bottle.

Appearance: Semi thin but semi thick black body with a tan head rising one full fingers length off the body.

Smell: Banana scent which is light but wrong after first sniff.

Taste: Sweet banana and mocha with a light dose of coconut. It's complex and sweet.

Mouth: Sticky beer with a medium carbonation and full body.

Overall: So glad I bought a 4 pack, the last one on the shelf but truly the dessert in a glass.

Black in color with no light penetration. There's a fingernail of brown around the rim and covering nearly all of the top. The aroma is overwhelmingly that of coconut with undertones of banana. I'm tasting plenty of toasted coconut and just a hint of banana. The mouth is oily and viscous.

Dark brown color with brownish head. Aroma has chocolate covered banana, bourbon, toffee, fudge, Bounty chocolate. Taste follows with the sweet chocolate and banana, bourbon, light coconut flavor, more bitter on the finish but still chocolatey and some wood notes as well. Body feels quite full, carbonation is medium. The flavors seem a bit artificial, especially the banana, but overall it's a quite tasty beer.

A little artificial on the coconut. And light on the barrel. But the banana works well and the flavors go together. Damn tasty against all my better judgment!!!

After having the orange version of this, I was tempted to drain pour and use the bottles for Molotov cocktails. However, after giving this a shot, I was pleasantly surprised. The coconut comes off like rum, and the banana is a bit too much, but not overpowering. Not nearly as thin as the orange, but after reading other reviews it seems there's a serious inconsistency with the body of various Dragon's Milks. This ain't bad for the more curious BA.

I was very much looking forward to this. Sounded too good to be true... BA coconut/banana stout, are you serious? What could be more perfect? Here are my thoughts:

Smell: Coconut and banana overwhelm the nose here, no doubt about it. No chocolate/coffee/roasty attributes noted. Stout? Hmm. Smell the bourbon barrels on this one...Nicely adds to its fruit counterparts. Probably the only time I knew this was even slightly involved with bourbon.
Look: Pitch black/gasoline in the glass. Very minimal tan head that quickly dissipates, even with a rough pour. NO lacing. Come on now, we eat/drink with our eyes.
Taste: very coconut forward, quite overwhelming. A bit of banana but quickly dissapears. Weak stout backbone, almost non existent. All fruit here... was waiting for the stout base to peak its head out but it never happened. Disappointed. Alcohol is hidden quite well. Very thin mouthfeel on this one, surprising considering the label. Bourbon? Where? A stout of this nature should be dense, heavy, and should feel like a meal. Never happened.
Overall: quite disappointing considering its upbringing. Thin stout=bad stout: this one was as thin as water. What a letdown, especially considering it’s resume. If this wasn’t pitch black in color, I wouldn’t know it was a stout. Gotta reel it in here guys... I like where you were headed, but you stopped way before the finish line. Wanted to love this so bad. Hate posting reviews like this.

Decadent sums it up. True banana flavor...a touch of coconut....rum.....boozy...stout characteristics have a hard time holding up to the banana. Coconut is pretty subtle.

Worth trying. Some are going to love this. To me it's a bit much with the banana and boozy rum notes but not unexpected. Decent enough.

As my New Super Michigan Beer Bowl Sunday (Week 728) rolls along, I am beginning to delve into heady territory. These next two beers aim to get me where I'm going & in one quick hurry!

From the Bottle: "Share A Legend"; "Bourbon Barrel-aged Stout with Real Banana & Natural Flavors"; "Roasted*Malty*Smooth"; "Proudly Brewed in Holland[,] Michigan".

I have actually had this before, on draft at the FGBS, so I had an idea of what to expect going into it. I rarely do field reviews anymore, but seeing as how they also had it in bottles, I snagged one for our mutual edification.

It all begins with a Pop! of the cap. I had my monkey standing by in case anything went wrong, but we were all VERY relieved when my slow, gentle C-Line pour merely resulted in a pseudo-cascade. This, in turn, formed just under two fingers of dense, foamy, rocky, light-tan head with decent retention, slowly falling to wisps. Color was absolutely Black/Opaque (SRM = 44), allowing ZERO light penetration. Nose was redolent with banana & now my monkey was jumping up & down in unbridled excitement & enthusiasm! Mouthfeel was thick, full & creamy, like a dollop or scoop of banana ice cream on the tongue & in the mouth. I really liked that while banana certainly dominated the taste, it also allowed the bourbon-coconut flavor combination (something that I often note in bourbon-bbl. aged beers) to be perceptible. I remember it as being MUCH sweeter on draft than from this bottle, so if one or the other is what trips your particular trigger, take note. For me, this iteration was the better of the two. I just don't like outright sweet stuff & where that glass at the FGBS gave me the heebie jeebies, this was eminently drinkable, Finish was … mmm, let's go with semi-sweet & call it a day. Def NOT outright sweet & if you were to argue for semi-dry, I wouldn't argue. Good stuff.

Dark brown pour w/ruby hues; fast fizzy greyish beige cap; little to no ring; no lacing; medium legs on swirl. Strong banana nose, coconut and chocolate behind; some bourbon on exhale. Taste follows nose, more bourbon in middle; sweet chocolate covered coconut patti candy finish. Medium lite body moderate carbonation; barrel dryness, dusty feeling; no perceived warmth from alcohol. Overall, thin for ABV and boring to look at, but each advertised flavor is present and all are well balanced and complimentary. I liked!

P: Dark brown color with thin tan head and not much lacing.
S: Lots of banana, some chocolate, and a hint of coconut.
T: Definitely lots of banana upfront with some semi sweet chocolate and finishes with coconut and bourbon taste.
MF: Not boozy at all and in the middle of thin and thick with strong banana aftertaste which covers up the bourbon well.
O: Great beer with a nice balance of flavors although the banana is the most dominant flavor of them all.

Sometimes these variants to the base don't really pan out. This is *not* one of those cases...

On the contrary, this is a superb brew. I grabbed it thinking "dessert beer" all the way but experienced something wholly different. From the dark look and fluffy head to the delicious scents of coconut and banana blending with the boozy background - it all worked somehow to not be sweet. In fact, it was more dry than sweet but it wasn't entirely without a sugary flavor. Mouthfeel was medium-bodied, carbonated, and creamy to the tongue. This is quite possibly better than the base offering and that brew is pretty damn good...

Holy gadzooks this stuff tastes like a banana popsicle dipped in melted Mounds bars! It pours a clear, deep brown, so brown it looks black with ruby highlights when held to the light. The pour produces a heavy finger of tan, somewhat lasting, frothy head that leaves a few webs and streaks of lace. Aroma is fully ripe banana, coconut and milk chocolate with bourbon and woody vanilla in the background. Beneath these molasses, coffee and dried figs fade in and out. Taste is semisweet and milk chocolate, coconut and banana in that order with bourbon, oak, dark roast, toasted pumpernickel and toffee notes in the background; there are faint hints of burnt caramel and dark fruits. No noticeable hop presence. Aftertaste is boozy, heavy to banana and coconut and short-lived faint pepper with only a hint of bitter. Mouthfeel is heavy bodied, creamy, silky and thinly chewy with low-moderate carbonation. The booze is up front but not as prominent as it's parent, Dragons Milk. This has to be a product of the more forceful flavor. The ABV is the same so something is subduing the alcohol presence. This coupled with the fact that it is oh so easy to drink makes it dangerous. Go slow and be careful. The price will probably take care of this unless you were independently wealthy or able to live as if you were.

Pitch black pour with a finger of tan head.
Huge banana on the nose, coconut as well.
Aromas translates to the taste, primarily banana and coconut.
Medium body, good carb levels.
Overall not my favorite variant flavor wise but that's just based on my preferences.

Dragon's Milk Reserve Banana Coconut pours a black color, with a small, tan head. Big aroma, lots of banana, very sweet, hints of toasted coconut. Flavor is also big, very sweet, first a sweet sugary banana flavor, finishes with the coconut flavors. Good body and feel. Overall, very sweet, lots and lots of banana and coconut flavors, as promised; fruit loaded.

Tried this at Eli Cannon's in Middletown, CT. Came in a tulip glass with about three quarters of an inch of head. Left behind a middling amount of lacing. Aroma is what is advertised in so far as banana and coconut being up front. The taste is just way too sweet for me. Not bad if you don't mind sweeter beers.

Excited for this. I always trust Dragon Milk reserves to be solid. Pouring from a 12 oz. bottle into a snifter glass this beer pours out a lot more brown than I ever remember dragons milk being. Can see through it on the whole pour, but once it's in the glass it shows minimal highlights and forms a pinky width of creamy and dense tan colored crown.
I smell banana before I even put my nose into the glass and once I do I get hit with an absolutely huge banana laffy taffy presence overwhelming the nostrils. It's amazing. Playing the background is coconut and a slight warming alcohol smell.
The taste follows up where the nose left off with the banana laffy taffy, except with bringing more coconut to the show. Banana pudding.
It's balanced on the barrel presence. It has a warming alcohol presence without burning.
Overall, the best I can describe this is like Death by Coconut with banana laffy taffys dropped in. Or banana laffy taffy soaked in Bourbon for only a minute before sprinkling shredded coconut on top.
I like it. But guess what? I like banana and coconut. If you don't, I wouldn't try it.

12oz bottle poured into a tulip glass. Purchased at Barrels & Vines.

Pour: deep brown. Minimal head, ends in a few clouds with no ring.

Nose: definite banana aroma. Some coconut as well. Maybe a little booze edge.

Taste: follows the nose but banana isn’t overwhelming. More a compliment to the base stout. Slight burnt coffee bitterness on backend. Enjoyable.

Mouthfeel: moderate to low carbonation. Rich texture but pretty clean finish.

Overall: unique flavor that’s worth trying. But I don’t see this as a go to beer. Of course , won’t be available as a go to anyway!

12oz bottle, snifter glass. Pours a dark cola brown body, dark black in hue, one finger offwhite head, good retention, thin collar, not much in way of lacing. Smell is straight up Banana Boat, big suntan lotion aroma, although sweeter with a fair bit of toasted coconut, slightly sweet oaky bourbon, a bit of milk chocolate. Flavour follows, kind of like drinking suntan lotion with a dab of banana. The coconut is artificial tasting, and the chocolate base is a bit on the weaker end, dominated by the adjuncts. Pretty mild bourbon. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, substantial enough, smooth milk chocolate and slightly chalky coconut finish. Smell is way too Banana Boat for me to keep on drinking this one.

Pours black with a big, creamy, tan head. I was aggressive with the pour.
I get Banana, Chocolate, malt and slight bourbon on the smell. Banana is the star.
The Banana and coconut come together in a very pleasing, sweet taste. Banana comes out first with the coconut sliding in. Coffee and baking chocolate more subtle. I thought this combo was going to be iffy, but I like it! Not big on the barrel notes.
Mouthfeel silky smooth as usual Dragon's milk.
This is one smooth operator with a pleasant combo of banana and coconut. Reminds me of the Old Banana Laffy Taffy's!
