i'm just going to be the odd one out here. was kind of excited for this one, especially with the "real banana" on the bottle. maybe it's there but this smells and tastes like yellow laffy taffy stout. pours a nice enough dark brown, nearly black color with a khaki head that rose really nicely up and went away slowly. but the moment the cap left the beer i was hit with this almost fake banana smell, not quite as bad as most but still not what i wanted. maybe my senses are off but nothing else comes through on the nose. taste is a weird mix of banana and stout like malts and warmth. even after it warmed the barrel didn't show and the coconut is just kind of passing by. drinks just as smooth as normal dragon's milk, with that 11% settling itself away behind everything else until you're done and stumbling around burping up weird banana taste. oh well

Bought a four pack for approximately 9 million dollars. Or maybe $19. Money well spent.

These Reserve offerings are always appointment television as far as I'm concerned and this one is no different.

There is banana and there is coconut and throughout it all is the familiar boozy warmth of Dragon's Milk, which is the best beer anyone's ever made and I'm not listening to any argument against that and nyah, nyah, nyah my dad can beat up your dad.

This is beyond an accomplishment. We're now moving into the realm of sorcery.

So good.

Appearance - Pours dark cola brown, near black, with a tan, near finger width head that fizzes away like soda to reveal a mostly barren surface with a razor thin ring of suds around the edge of the glass. No lacing, but none expected.

Smell - Smells like banana coconut creme pie with a hint of chocolate and faint bourbon.

Taste - Banana mostly, with lesser coconut and chocolate. Bourbon flavors come in mid-taste and give this some bite; vanilla, boozy astringency and a hint of oak. Smooths out in the finish, leaving mostly the trio of banana, coconut and lessening chocolate. Banana begins to taste more artificial as it warms.

Mouthfeel - Medium-bodied with low-to-moderate carbonation. Hint of creamy texture but thins out in the finish like most Dragon's Milk variants do.

Overall - Hard one to rate. By far the best I've had of the flavored 'Reserve' series of Dragon's Milk beers, but this one isn't quite flawless. Banana is quite prevalent, but it sides more towards 'candy banana' than it does natural banana flavor, so if that's not your bag you won't find this enjoyable. Is it better than the original Dragon's Milk? I'm not so sure.

Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a very dark mahogany brown, appearing opaque black in the glass with a thin brown head that dissipates to patches with light lacing. Aroma of semi-sweet dark toasted malt, coconut and bananas; as advertised; actually smells very much like a trail mix of dried bananas and coconut, amazing. Flavor is semi-sweet dark toasted malt, coconut, banana and slight bourbon and cocoa. Medium bodied with light creaminess. Tasted pretty much as I expected. Both banana and coconut are bold flavors and they dominate this stout, fortunately they work well with each other. The bourbon and to a great extent the malt flavors are subsumed into the fruit and coconut character. Definitely a dessert stout, the banana is slightly artificial tasting, but the coconut tastes fresh. I opened this expecting a somewhat sweet, banana and coconut infused stout and got exactly what I wanted. This has been a flavorful and well done series. Always happy to see it offered.

12oz bottle stamped 09/04/18 poured into a short tulip shows a dark maple brown, with cola colors ahowing through the light at the very edge. A 1/8in cocoa colored cap of tight bubbles disapates quickly and leaves tiny spotted lacing.

Aroma is banana forward followed evenly with coconut-lightly toasted-, cocoa, brown sugar, and booze. There's a macaroon in there somewhere.

Flavors are more barrel(vanilla, molasses, oak, toast), coconut, and cocoa forward, with banana and roast malts falling in behind. There is a slight hint of candied banana, but it is soon swept away by the chocolate and bourbon.

Mouthfeel is a lighter leaning medium, no tongue-coatingly, but quite pleasant. No booze warmth.

Overall a nice variation on the base.

Bottled on 9/4/18. 12oz bottle poured into a tulip. Pours almost black with a khaki head that fades leaving nice retention and lacing. The aromas have a nice amount of banana along with some coconut. Some chocolate. Subtle bourbon notes. Malts are there. The flavors basically follow the nose for the most part. More banana leading the way along with the coconut coming through. Some cocoa. The bourbon is noticeable without dominating. The bourbon accents and blends well with the banana and coconut. Mild warmth in the finish, but it's not hot or boozy. Mouthfeel is full-bodied, but feels light and thin like all Dragon Milk beers. The carbonation is sharp and active. This one is dangerously drinkable.

This is a nice stout. The banana and coconut shine and work although they might come off as artificial. I understand if someone isn't feeling this one due to possibly coming off as "fake". This is a nice addition to the Dragon Milk series, in my opinion. It becomes even more enjoyable as it warms.

Pours black with a creamy tan head, but there’s some leakage to mahogany colors on the extremities. The nose is bananas up front, with coconut following, and vanilla and oak barrel notes combined with rich chocolate notes at the tail end. I am quivering with excitement.

The taste is a rich chocolate milkshake with banana and coconut, and some bourbon to take you to nap time. Big and chewy, this is a meal in a beer, whether that meal is dinner or dessert.

I’m not a coconut fan - at all - but I highly recommend this beer.

Poured into a 13 oz Snulip glass bottled on 9/07/18. Pours a very dark near pitch black with a 2 finger tan head that settles fairly quickly leaving thin faint lines of lace. 4

Smell is rum, banana, coconut, cocoa, and some hints of vanilla. 3.75

Taste follows this one is boozy, banana, coconut, rum, vanilla, and some dark chocolate. 3.75

Mouthfeel as is often the case with each variant of this a tad watery and thin, plenty of life for the style, a tad dry, and it is pretty boozy for 11% ABV. 3.75

Overall I am glad I tried it, because let’s face it banana and beer doesn’t happen often and this is a nice one for sure, more body would have pulled it all in better. Thanks @jzeilinger for the boozy stout. 3.75

12 ounce bottle into snifter, bottled on 9/7/2018. Pours opaque dark brown/black color with a 1-2 finger dense and rocky khaki head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Nice dense soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big milk chocolate, cocoa, banana, coconut, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, bourbon, toasted oak, nuts, and dark/brown bread; with light notes of coffee, molasses, licorice, raisin, cherry, smoke, herbal, and roast/toast/oaky earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malts, banana, coconut, and bourbon barrel notes; with big strength. Taste of huge milk chocolate, cocoa, banana, coconut, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, bourbon, toasted oak, nuts, and dark/brown bread; with light notes of coffee, molasses, licorice, raisin, cherry, smoke, herbal, and roast/toast/oaky earthiness. Mild herbal/roast bitterness and bourbon/oak spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of milk chocolate, cocoa, banana, coconut, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, bourbon, toasted oak, nuts, dark/brown bread, light coffee/dark fruit/smoke, herbal, and roast/toast/oaky earthiness on the finish for a while. Incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malts, banana, coconut, and bourbon barrel flavors; with a solid roasted bitter/sweet and bourbon/oak spiciness balance; with zero cloying/acrid flavors after the finish. Slightly increasing dryness from lingering roast bitterness and bourbon/oak spiciness. Light-medium carbonation and fairly full body; with a very smooth, creamy/silky/velvety, and slightly sticky/chalky/tannic mouthfeel that is fantastic. Mildly increasing warmth of 11%, with no barrel booziness lingering after the finish. Overall this is an incredible flavored barrel aged imperial stout. All around fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malts, banana, coconut, and bourbon barrel flavors; very smooth and dangerously easy to drink for the big ABV, with the minimally bitter/drying finish. Perfectly balanced rich malts, flavorings, and bourbon barrel integration. Very minimal booze/tannins on barrels, and charred on malts. A highly enjoyable offering, and amazing dessert style example as expected.

12oz bottle poured into a snifter

A- pours a deep brown color with just a bit of light creeping through, one-finger foamy khaki head reduces to a ring around the edge

S- aroma is bursting with banana, banana runts candy, overripe banana, banana milkshake. There's an underlying coconut note that mixes with the banana to give it a tropical vibe, smells like a lobby of an early 90's tanning salon. Behind the banana and coconut, a malty chocolate undertone closes it out

M- Roasted malt and chocolate up front, with the banana kicking in mid-palate. The banana comes across as authentic, even resembles a banana milkshake. The finish some creamy vanilla notes, as well as light bourbon. Lingers of fresh coconut, chocolate and light barrel

M- medium body with moderate carbonation leads to a foamy mouthfeel that continues into a slightly warming finish

O- one of the best smelling beers I've had in a while. Tasted great, but not quite as complex as the nose

I consider the base Dragon's Milk stout to be a passable bourbon barrel stout - good for the price, fairly easy to get (at least around here), but not quite on par with the big boys... Recently I've been enjoying Evil Twin's banana maple stout, so when I saw this, I figured I gotta give it a try...

Dark brown pour just shy of black in the glass, as some light will slip through the edges revealed a dark brown translucence... Brief finger of tan foam vanishes quickly and a thin collar was all that persisted beyond that...

Aromas of banana, chocolate, molasses and vanilla are prominent, with sweet whiskey notes airing things out; notes of coconut and oak can be inferred from the nose...

It's sweet but not too sweet, has a nice weight and feel, and expresses exactly what you'd want in a bourbon-barrel-aged banana coconut stout (new style category coming soon? lol)... The banana and coconut flavors are well-executed - there is no doubt about the banana in the fore, the flavors solid without being over-the-top, and the coconut flavors right beneath... The bourbon elements are mild, bringing a little vanilla maple aspect to the beer, and ever-so-slightly prompting a touch of a drying finish...

The body is fairly full, rounded, and a little sticky - which I'll take over thin-bodied any day in a stout with kind of style...

Very impressed... 9/4/18 bottling...

A - Pours a very dark brown with a thin off white head. Heavy amount of soapy lacing.

S - Aroma is banana, coconut and milk chocolate.

T - The taste is banana, coconut, milk chocolate, vanilla and bourbon.

M - Medium bodied with medium carbonation. Soft mouthfeel with a nice dry finish.

O - This is a pretty solid addition to the Dragon's Milk series. The banana and coconut work well with the chocolate and bourbon.

12oz bottle poured into a tulip glass. Purchased at Barrels & Vines.

Pour: deep brown. Minimal head, ends in a few clouds with no ring.

Nose: definite banana aroma. Some coconut as well. Maybe a little booze edge.

Taste: follows the nose but banana isn’t overwhelming. More a compliment to the base stout. Slight burnt coffee bitterness on backend. Enjoyable.

Mouthfeel: moderate to low carbonation. Rich texture but pretty clean finish.

Overall: unique flavor that’s worth trying. But I don’t see this as a go to beer. Of course , won’t be available as a go to anyway!

Pours black with a big, creamy, tan head. I was aggressive with the pour.
I get Banana, Chocolate, malt and slight bourbon on the smell. Banana is the star.
The Banana and coconut come together in a very pleasing, sweet taste. Banana comes out first with the coconut sliding in. Coffee and baking chocolate more subtle. I thought this combo was going to be iffy, but I like it! Not big on the barrel notes.
Mouthfeel silky smooth as usual Dragon's milk.
This is one smooth operator with a pleasant combo of banana and coconut. Reminds me of the Old Banana Laffy Taffy's!

Poured into a snifter. A dark brown color with a thick tan head. Decent retention for a BA beer. Aroma was strong banana with coconut and faint Barrel. The taste was reminiscent of chocolate covered bananas dipped in whiskey and sprinkled with coconut. I went into this beer with skepticism but I must admit that this one hit my sweet spot. Delicious.

Upon opening the banana jumped out. Poured medium thickness and pitch black with a mocha head that somewhat retained itself even after 20 minutes. Tastes of banana are upfront, so if you don't like bananas dont buy this!. For sure the bourbon barrel is present and compliments this beer nicely. Coconut is not the dominant smell or taste but is there.nice creamy medium mouthfeel.good beer for the style that I would drink again!.

On tap, very dark brown, light brown head, spotty lacing and an oily film.
Aroma is heavily banana, hint of coconut, vanilla, chocolate, burnt sugar and a bit of bourbon.
Taste is exactly the same. Much thicker texture and creamier than the original.
Really nice beer, but it's just a bit too sweet. Great dessert beer.

Pours a deep brown color with a thin tan head and minimal lacing.

The smell is loaded with ripe banana and coconut beneath it.

The taste is also loaded with ripe bananas. The coconut comes through strongly on the end, but it's really well balanced. There's very little barrel presence.

The mouthfeel is slightly thin for a BBA stout, but it's as expected for Dragon's Milk. There's also something slightly astringent on the very dry finish.

Overall this is a really well made, really tasty beer.

Appearance - Pours black with thick dense tan head that settles to a thick cap with sheets of lacing.

Aroma - Huge banana up front, not getting a ton of coconut, little bourbon and maybe a hint of oak. The banana adds a sweet aroma that dominates the nose.

Taste - Taste reminds me of banana pudding, tons of banana, very mild coconut, chocolate, bourbon is a little more pronounced than in the nose.

Feel - High side of medium smooth, slightly creamy. Getting some warming from the alcohol nice finish.

Overall - I really like this one, like liquid banana pudding in a glass. Flavors work well together little sweet maybe but tasty.

Pours black with just over a finger of khaki foam. Head retention is good. Aroma is big banana and coconut, but not in a strange way. Banana comes off a little like banana flavored Laffy Taffy. Roasty, toasty, caramel malts form an assertive background, but the banana and coconut are ripe and right on the front driving the bus. Flavor profile is banana and fleshy coconut. Between those two notes, that's 85 or 90% of the flavor profile. Roasty, toasty malts and caramel form the remainder of the flavor profile. Mouth feel is smooth and velvety, with a quality big-stout texture. It has a medium-thick consistency, breaking just shy of thick. Overall, a quality stout with huge banana and coconut notes, albeit they do come off slightly as artificial.

Served in a 12oz snifter from a 12oz bottle.

The base beer I like a lot but the"real flavorings" tasted like banana taffy and coconut oil. One and done for me because it tasted more like taffy flavors. I prefer the regular Dragons Milk which I give a score of 4.

Excited for this. I always trust Dragon Milk reserves to be solid. Pouring from a 12 oz. bottle into a snifter glass this beer pours out a lot more brown than I ever remember dragons milk being. Can see through it on the whole pour, but once it's in the glass it shows minimal highlights and forms a pinky width of creamy and dense tan colored crown.
I smell banana before I even put my nose into the glass and once I do I get hit with an absolutely huge banana laffy taffy presence overwhelming the nostrils. It's amazing. Playing the background is coconut and a slight warming alcohol smell.
The taste follows up where the nose left off with the banana laffy taffy, except with bringing more coconut to the show. Banana pudding.
It's balanced on the barrel presence. It has a warming alcohol presence without burning.
Overall, the best I can describe this is like Death by Coconut with banana laffy taffys dropped in. Or banana laffy taffy soaked in Bourbon for only a minute before sprinkling shredded coconut on top.
I like it. But guess what? I like banana and coconut. If you don't, I wouldn't try it.

Poured from 12oz bottle into glass. Stamped on neck is bottling date of '09/04/18'.
Dark brown body, with red mahogany edges when back lit. Half a finger of light tan, creamy head sticks around. Each sip leaves a dense pattern of small spots of lacing.
Big aroma of banana, with a little coconut and vanilla mixed in. Some chocolate, oak barrel, and alcohol in the background.
Taste is quite sweet, but the swirls of barrel alcohol swirl around. Banana is not a prominent a flavor as in the aroma, but it mixes well with the coconut, vanilla, and chocolate. The base is dark roasted malts.
Medium to thick mouth feel, quite smooth. Adequate carbonation. No heavy alcohol burn.
Treat this as a dessert beer, because it is too sweet to be imbibed over a short period of time. Induces minor levels of tooth sensitivity. The banana and coconut tastes are authentic. One of those brewing exercises in what flavors can be add next to our base barrel aged stout. I am glad to have tried the beer but it is not one I will urgently seek out again.
